How to tell a raven from a crow. Made with corvid researcher Dr. Kaeli Swift for her blog post on the subject!
These are all well and good (accurate and informative and also fun) but here’s the best way to tell the difference between the two:
Ravens are FUCKING huge.

Hey if you think goats are neat you should check out the Japanese Serow!
They’re protected by national conservation efforts that lead to a successful repopulation boom
Beautiful creatures!!!!!
So beautiful that they are considered national monuments
Serows around the world exist too!!! Like… 6 kinds! The Japanese Serows have less fortunate Sumatran cousins that are struggling to stay out of endangerment too in case you wanted to look up some more super cute goat deer lookin babies

Spare some blessed pigeon facts?
pigeons are actually BLINDINGLY fast, with sustained flight-speeds of 60mph. and they can keep it up, too, even for long-distance flights of a thousand miles or more!
you see this? this is a biological FedEx plane. CAN’T STOP WON’T STOP
also if it’s sprinting speed you’re after, well, these bad boys can pull over 100mph over short distances! *slaps roof of pigeon*
Greater bee fly, Bombylius major, Bombyliidae, Diptera Photographed in British Columbia
It may be surprising given how delightfully fluffy they are, but greater bee flies are parasites! Eggs are laid by females near nests of their host species, solitary bees and wasps. When the larvae hatch, they feed on stored food in the nest as well as the bee and wasp larvae. It will eventually pupate inside the host nest. Adult flies eat nectar with their proboscis and are harmless.

Here’s a bee fly that landed on my finger in the summer of 2018. I was working at a greenhouse in Cassidy, Nanaimo, BC, Canada.
They are my absolute favourite insect.
A+ addition thank you
