“I… I've had a feeling for a while that you… well.” I couldn't help but smile. “That you might have a crush on me. Or something.”
I relished the shocked and embarrassed expression I got out of him. I couldn't help but watch him flounder a little before I told him how I felt.
“H-how. Er! No! No no! I don’t- It's not like! Er. Fuck. No. Aaahhhh…”
Teasing anyone is fun, but messing with Sans is truly rewarding. It's not easy to get him to the point where he's sputtering like that. And I was gonna keep it going as long as I could. Maybe it's selfish of me. But it's impossible to resist!
“Oh? You don't like me? That's too bad. I was gonna say something but I guess I should keep it to myself.”
I would never say that Sans is gullible, but I guess if you really catch him off guard you can mess with him a bit.
“What were you gonna say?”
His eyes were big and pleading. Like he thought he'd get physically hurt if I didn't tell him I like him.
“Nooo. I shouldn't tell you. I don't wanna make things awkward~”
“Uggghhhhh.” Sans put his palms over his eyes and stretched his back against the couch. “Don't make me say it Y/N. Please?”
Then he lifted one hand just a bit and peaked at me.
“I don't know what you're talking about!~ Anyway, I should go take a shower now.”
I was about to get up but Sans grabbed both blankets which were cocooning me. His flushed face looked somehow annoyed.
“You're not gonna tease a guy this much and then tell him you're getting naked in his house. You're not stupid enough to do that.”
“It's not stupid if you like him~” I beamed.
Sans’ eyes got wide for a second. He looked away, then smirked a little.
“Well. It's too bad you don't seem ta like me. Guess ya better go take that shower if you wanna be stupid.”
I glared at Sans. Accepting his challenge.
“Alright. I'll see you in a bit then.”
I wiggled out of his blankets and hopped off the couch. After warming up, taking a shower in hot water still felt pretty nice. The area on my chest that got tea spilled on it burned a bit. But all things considered it was a nice shower. Until I got out.
“Saaans! Can you hear me?”
I heard a few footsteps, and then Sans seemed to be right next to the door.
“Yup. You okay in there?”
“Um… I can't find your towels.”
“Ohhhh right. I forgot to tell you we don't have any in there.”
“What?! Then where are you keeping them?! How'd you even do that? You didn't come in here before me!”
I assumed he took them out to mess with me.
“I didn't have to do anything. We just don't keep towels in the bathroom.”
“Heeyy. Calm down. I'm just giving my naked friend a towel right?”
“Don’t say naked like that!” I shrieked as I hopped back into the shower and closed the curtain.
“Heheh. Well. Getting naked in a guy's house turned out to be a pretty stupid idea huh? Guess that means ya don't like me.”
“Ugggh! Can you just give me the towel already? You can come in.”
I heard the door open and we finally didn't have to shout anymore.
“I thought you needed some clothes. So I put those in too. I don't know if they'll fit though.”
“Oh… That's really sweet. You must really like me.”
“Heheheh. I dunno. Was taking a shower a stupid idea?”
But I wasn't done teasing Sans yet. Not when I still had something to work with.
“Www-wooaah. Uhhh… eheh. I-I uh. You're not saying what I think you're saying. Are you?”
“That depends. Is it stupid to take a shower at a guy's house if he doesn't like you?”
“Uggh. I think we're getting lost in this idiom.”
“Haha yeah. You're wearing me out.”
There was a moment of silence as we both tried to figure out what to say without hiding behind weird ongoing bits.
“Hey.” Sans started. “I don't think we should do anything like that yet. But I do really like you.”
I popped my head out of the curtain.
Sans jumped out of his bones and looked away. I started laughing.
“Hahaha! I'm still covered!”
“You're gonna give me a heart attack.” Sans breathed as he clutched the collar of his shirt. I loved his cute, blue worried face.
Teasing him had already become an addiction. I wanted to keep going until he begged me to stop. I think Sans could already tell I was getting too excited. He met my eyes for a moment and made a weird expression like he was thinking “seriously?”
Sans looked down and laughed a bit.
“Heheh. Jeez. Yesterday I would have never guessed you'd be trying to pull me into the shower with you. You’re not… drunk. Right? That would really suck if you were just drunk this whole time.”
“I haven't had alcohol in days. Why? Do you think you're dreaming?~”
Sans rolled his eyes. I guess not all teasing worked on him.
“You should be doing this with Grillby or something. I don't get why you'd want me.” He muttered quietly.
I found mentioning Grillby by name to be really weird.
“Grillby? Why him? It's weird to mention your friend in a situation like this.”
“Well… I should probably tell you…”
Sans looked up to me again, and shook his head exasperated.
“Pfft. Heheh. We can talk about this after you get dressed. Alright?”
Sans left and I put on the clothes he set out for me. When I went downstairs I saw Sans sitting on his couch. He was looking at his hands and fiddling.
“So, what did you wanna tell me?”
Sans finally looked up at me. And he smiled. The way he looked me up and down, I had to assume he was happy to see me in his clothes.
“Uh. So…” Sans took a second to breathe. “Grillby and I both like you. We told each other a while ago. We decided we should just see if something happens, and we'd just accept whoever you went with naturally. If it was one of us I mean.”
Grillby likes me?! Oh my god. And they're trying to prevent any jealousy. It's so cute when guys do this. It makes me like them both even more!
“Is that why you haven't been asking me to come over?”
“We all started hanging out at Grillby's a lot more too.” I remembered.
“Grillby never asked for your number. So he couldn't really see you as often as I could. I felt like I should… ya know…”
His tone almost seemed sad. I didn't know what to say for a while. Until Sans spoke up again.
“I don't mean to turn you down, but… Would you let me talk to Grillby again before anything starts between us?”
I guess monsters don't really have a “boy code” or whatever dictates that you can't ask out a girl your buddy likes. So the fact that Sans went out of his way for the sake of his best friend melted my heart. But still, I didn't really know what to do. Should I give Grillby a chance to win my heart? Or should I tell him that I've already chosen Sans?
Give him a try. Stay with Sans
The next day I went to Grillby's a while before it closed. I went up to the quiet fire monster and asked him if I could talk to him after he closed up. He seemed more than happy to let me stay. My heart sank knowing how disappointed he would be. I wanted to tell Grillby myself that I was choosing Sans. I didn't want to make Sans do that. It might even cause a fight between them. At least, that seemed like a logical conclusion. But when I told Grillby the situation he laughed.
“I… don't understand. Did I have something wrong?”
“Well… it is true. I've been quite interested in you ever since Sans introduced us.”
Wow! That long?! I still can't even think of myself as being in the same league as Grillby. I really didn't expect that.
“But when he told me how he felt about you,” Grillby continued. “I insisted that he shouldn't worry about my feelings at all. I'm very attracted to you, but Sans is in love with you.”
I put my hands up to my face. Partially to hide my shock, and partially to hide my embarrassment. Thankfully, Grillby gave me a moment to process.
“I… don't know what to say. Well! Uh. First, I'm very flattered. And uh… uh… no I really don't know what to say.” I stuttered.
“Hm hm~ That's alright. Thank you for telling me. I know it would be hard on Sans to say that himself. Even if he should know that I completely supported him the whole time in the first place.”
I had to laugh. It was a funny situation. And the next time I saw Sans I teased him about it mercilessly.
