florriesflorist:
Florrie is tired, there’s no getting around that. Sometimes, she found herself wishing to close the shop and retreat into the company of only her plants: she never had to pretend around the plants, did she? No, they were her solace… Her customers were not. Some were better than others, mind you, bringing much-needed brightness into her dark. But for the most part, it didn’t matter how pleasant they were. It’s exhausting to have to be so happy for their sake all the same, and while she could get past it with a smile most days, she’s had so many customers today that she hasn’t had the breaks she needs to recover her energy. If only she could take some Joy.
But business is business and money is money, and she should count herself lucky to be having such a busy day, she reminds herself. That doesn’t mean she isn’t delightfully pleased when the day begins to wind down and her store is quiet again, though, and the silence is welcomed and filled with her gentle humming along with the radio as she idly spruces up her displays.
By the time the door swings open again, Florrie is calm again, peacefully trimming and misting the small bonsai tree that sits upon her counter. A little peace and quiet with her flowers always does her good, and her smile is much less forced as she watches her new customer enter and look around. He doesn’t seem to notice her at first, something that brings her a bit of amusement, but when he does acknowledge her, she returns the sentiment with a friendly nod.
“Lovely day for it,” she agrees politely, “Just looking, or is there anything I can help you with?”
Turner says nothing afterwards, going back to staring at the flowers that bloomed and blossomed so lovely in here. It was a nice change of pace, to be perfectly honest. It was a LOVELY little section of life and nature that Saint George’s Holm missed. That even MAIDENHOLM didn’t have. Life. True, natural life. His focus goes straight towards a small potted plant, some gerber daisies that grew in all sorts of different colors.
Constable Turner liked the colors.
“Just looking for right now.” He muses, a gloved hand hovering just lightly over the flowers. His eyes jump towards the next bunch of flowers, a large container of hydrangeas of blues and pinks and purples. It must be an ABSOLUTE JOY coming inside of here on Joy to look at them all. At the same time, it might have also been incredibly difficult to look at all of them. Too many. Too bright. Turner figures they’ll get a HEADACHE before they even leave the store. “Thinking about what could help BRIGHTEN the Constabulary.” It was so....colorless and boring there. Not nearly as bright as the rest of Wellington Wells.
"Constable Conzans may enjoy some color in the Records Room.” He’d been HORRIBLY GLUM since he’d been stuck in there. Missed the outside. “The Constabulary is boringly white and blue. Needs just a bit of color to pop. Any recommendations?”

——- LONG DAYS were a norm for Row, especially with his side job. Few people knew what it is he did, and those who did know were his most trusted allies. So night he had off were RARE, but greatly enjoyed. Row flopped down onto the couch, next to a particularly FOCUSED man, reading away at something Row had little interest in understanding.
❝ I have the night off for once, and you’re spending it reading…What are you reading exactly ? ❞ ( @takeyourjcy )
It’s a rare occurrence when they BOTH had a day off. A night off. One of them. Turner can’t bring himself to keep track of the DAYS anymore. The Constable says nothing for awhile, shifting through the pages of his book as Row drops onto the couch beside him, SIGHING heavily. When he asks his question, Turner’s eyes jump away to look at the taller man.
“It’s To Kill a Mockingbird.” Turner replies, marking his place with a small piece of paper. “Got the book from Constable Bacon. Said it was good. Figured I give it a shot.”

It was a club for roses, how interesting. Abigail was never a part of a club before, sure there was that guy in the treehouse who had a club but she wasn’t ready to be a spy. But this one sounds like a good starter club, for people who never been in a club before. Roses are a pretty cool plant so if she does well in this club maybe she can join that spy one as well.
This guy seemed pretty unique, he made a bunch of funny faces. It seems he’s angry at her…for some reason, his glare sure seems like it’s gonna kill her any second. It was tempting to go and try to make the funny faces he was making but she didn’t want to upset him more. Instead she doodled him being all mad at her, she was very proud of it.
“If it has two members wouldn’t that just be a get together with your friend” she asked since clubs were new to her? Abigail realized that may have sounded a bit rude so she should probably talk about something else. “Roses are badass, I could see The Rose Society on the back of a leather jacket”
SHE WAS ANNOYING.
Clive’s lips twisted further, warping from a frown to a FULL-BLOWN SNARL. She was worse than both Arthur and Prudence TOGETHER. He had already PRACTICALLY been tearing his hair out due to their office antics, from the CLICKING PENS (which HAD to be morse code) to their GLOATING of having offices with windows.
They were both GONE now.
“Does it LOOK LIKE I care about what you’re BLOODY SAYING?” Clive snarls, standing from his place abruptly and fixing angry eyes towards the woman. Her nose was buried in that damn little book of her’s, so he doesn’t HESITATE to snatch it out of her hands and THROW IT into the bushes.
“LEAVE ME BE.”

It wasn’t often that Constable Turner got to leave the sanctity of Maidenholm, practically FORCED to head out to patrol the bridges. He didn’t much like LEAVING the area he was so familiar with, not since the ACCIDENT with the Downer that made a mess of his mug. He didn’t think himself handsome before, oh no, but now? Now it was a MIRACLE to make the man remove his mask.
Still, he found himself in Saint George’s Holm now, shoulders hunched and lips upward in a tired smile. Constable Turner maneuvered the streets, wishing Wellies good afternoon as he passed them by. Briefly, he wonders if he should pay a visit to Constable Bacon, whom he knew was standing ever DUTIFUL in his dad’s own shop, but decided against it when he came to a slow STOP in front of a small store. It was so much more DIFFERENT than the rest of the area, full of life and colors that seemed to glow even BRIGHTER than the rainbow path, the colorful walls. Different.
A flower shop?
He nudges the door open, eyes jumping flower to flower as he surveys the place. The last he had been here, Turner hadn’t even SEEN this place. Was it new? It had to be. He didn’t come out to Maidenholm often, lest ROWLANDSON dragged him over here. Turner locks eyes with the small Wellie behind the counter.
“Oh. Sorry, ma’am. Lovely day for it.”

“Oh Pup. There’s so much that I want to tell you.” It’s a quiet night, still cold but Doc Faraday’s house has always been warm. He’s seated comfortably on the bed beside his slumbering lover, gaze soft and face alight with LOVE and affection for Roger. “I worry so much about you each and every day. Always out there. Always learning. It’s been so easy for you and I feel like I’m falling behind. Caught in your tailwind as you fly towards the sun.”
“I want to be with you, always, but I’m just...” James pauses here, eyes switching towards the window, looking out of it wistfully. “...I’m afraid I can’t keep up with you.”

❝ Sunshine doesn’t do anything ❞ cept make your pupils smaller and let you pass through joy detectors . it did a lot of things really , but none of them affected you psychologically , so it shouldn’t be of concern . it just brightened your day a bit and made you look like one a Jolly good wellie , and looking the part was all that mattered .
❝ and it’s certainly not off brand Joy. ❞ she near scoffs , opening the cabinet and clasping a small rocket . she did so love the little rockets she used to dispense her wares , a little trip to somewhere new . she quietly listens to prudence ramble a bit , an eyebrow raised beneath her mask . there were lots of reasons to pretend to be happy here . mostly to avoid getting killed or chased out of your house . whatever the case , it wasn’t any of sally’s business .
❝ sounds like something you should be asking you, not me. But it’s only dangerous if you take Hallucinex with it. ❞
Well, if she put some modicum of thought into it, doesn’t it mean that they would PRETEND to be happy. Sure, the Sunshine would make your pupils smaller, but even someone like CLIVE wouldn’t be able to pass as someone on Joy with HIS personality. Always such an ANGRY MAN with narrowed eyes and a frown constantly on his lips despite the mask.
She’s had an empty bottle THROWN at her once when she entered his office.
Only now, she was OUT of the Parade and it was a whole new experience for her. This whole situation was out of her comfort zone, but she was also DETERMINED to get further than she was meant to. V didn’t want to come with her, too focused on her duty to Wellington Wells and the people and the COUNCIL. Prudence shoves those thoughts to the back of her mind.
“I’ve heard a whole lot of things about Sunshine.” Whether true or not. Oh dear, Prudence hoped Sally wasn’t getting mad for her own inability to understand. Mr. Kite has already helped her so much.
“I do know for one thing. I need to LEAVE this place.”

Hearing about a society made Abigail interesting in the more nicer districts for a change. The only real problem being that she had to be somewhat on Joy and had to wear her wig around that place. But then again she couldn’t resist a good challenge so she accepted it with her head down in her notebook. As she was walking around she was lost in her notebook thinking about what the society would be about when she heard a voice.
Abigail looked up and saw that she was in front of someone and she was a bit surprised by the reply. It was shocking to hear a straightforward respond and she wasn’t even talking to this person.
“I’m sorry sir I was writing in my notebook. I heard there was a society with few members and I was thinking about what it could be about. So far I got weather, mushrooms, meats, and even satan but I guess that would be a cult” she replied crossing satan out from the notebook.
What the absolute BULLOCKS was she even talking about? Clive’s ANNOYANCE shows very clearly on his face as she rambles on about WHO KNOWS WHAT. A society? Did she mean the ROSE SOCIETY? There were no others members than Clive and.....shite what was that NAME? He angrily pushes the thought from his head, glaring at her HARSHLY.
“It’s a CLUB.” He says rudely, hand already sneaking towards the CRICKET BAT he kept on him whenever a DOWNER came to be. OR WHENEVER SOMEONE WAS ANNOYING HIM. “The ROSE Society. There’s only TWO members.” With a wrinkle of his nose and a baring of his teeth, the man turns away, glowering at the paperwork and seed packets. The absolute BEST place for the garden itself would be in the PARADE where he lived. Where he WAS.
“We AREN’T accepting NEW members.”
@lariontheradio // s.c.
It was basic knowledge to EVERYONE who worked under Victoria Byng that Clive was someone to avoid. He was violent and angry even when under the effects of Joy. It worked its best to calm him down and there was a MASSIVE part of him that fought tooth and nail about WHAT made him so angry.
Still, he did find SOLACE in the Rose Society.
He had originally started the club with....SOMEONE. A name in the back of his mind. Something he couldn’t quite remember thanks to the Joy. They had gone on Holiday, leaving HIM in charge of the Rose Society by himself. It was an easy task, mostly because they hadn’t even OWNED a garden yet, but there WERE plans.
Clive’s eyes NARROW when he hears footsteps coming up behind him.
“Go away.” Simple as that.
@sclopetariis // s.c.
“I hope it isn’t TOO bad.” Prudence follows her carefully along, looking like a nervous little bird as she stands in the middle of Sally Boyle’s lab. She doesn’t feel right being here after so long. She often wondered if her grandmother was all right, living in that big house with all of those cat statues. With only a few friends coming by to visit every now and then locking her home up HEAD TO TOE to keep everyone out.
She looks worriedly around the lab.
“I...I mean. They always told us Sunshine was a BAD thing. That we shouldn’t take something that’s OFF BRAND to Joy.” Prudence looks worried. “Why would we want to PRETEND to be happy?” Something she’s heard Victoria say quite often when speaking with her father. Those were back when she was WILLING to take Joy, be happy and forget like the rest of them. But those days were DONE now.
“Although, I very much APPRECIATE this, Miss Boyle.”
@antonverloc // s.c.
“It....really isn’t what it looks like-” Constable Bacon fumbles with his mask, nearly dropping it on the floor when he catches sight of the man walking straight towards the shop. Reg Cutty’s shop, his dad. He does manage to get a solid grip on his mask, not quite placing it on his FACE, but looking EMBARRASSED that he had been caught with his mask off.
Especially by ANTON VERLOC.
“I...uh...do you need something from Mr. Cutty?” Because he was ON DUTY right now, he couldn’t quite refer to the man in any other way. Would be considered IMPOLITE. At least in dear, Constable Bacon’s eyes.
“Normally you have Mr. Cutty deliver your order through Edmund. So this is quite a DIFFERENCE, Sir.” Still so very POLITE.

‘ i had to help a friend. ‘
Arthur chuckles quietly, amusement shining through his otherwise tired expression. a hand comes up to pull back his shirt pocket, sparky poking his head out almost as quickly as arthur had pulled it open. ‘ i… couldn’t leave him with my uncle, figured the poor fellow might get eaten. ‘ he gently taps sparky’s nose, receiving an affirming flick of the tongue from his compatriot. geckos weren’t exactly the most… filling thing to eat, but people here didn’t have much to eat in the first place.
he feels oddly… at ease, though fear still tingles in the back of his stomach. Prudence had a way of making him feel like everything would be alright. they were so close, to reaching the outside world. to reaching their FREEDOM. Arthur could go look for Percy, and start a new life outside of all… this. he wonders what it will be like, the outside world. Arthur had only been four when the war started, he could barely remember what it was like. a normal life.
‘ and I opened up a hatch. it’s under the fashion institute, towards the square. ‘
thank god she wasn’t there to see how.
Prudence’s eyes practically sparkled the second she sees the little gecko poke his head out from Arthur’s jacket. He looks good, despite Arthur being away for a few days or WEEKS by now. Then again, didn’t he MENTION that his uncle had been keeping an eye on him? Oh, it would have been only a matter of TIME before the man had gotten so hungry and tried to eat the poor little guy.
The woman pokes the tip of Sparky’s nose, eyes raising up to Arthur’s face the second he mentions the hatch in the Parade. Right underneath the fashion institute, eh? Oh, if only Davey could see where she was at right now. He’d probably LOVE to see her again. An old friend she was of his, but since she took that job with Miss Byng...oh. Her gaze once again raises towards the office, staring up at the covered windows. She could point out WHICH ONE was her’s just by standing right here. She couldn’t be in work right now. The hours were too late.
She’d be at home, wondering why she hasn’t come back from HOLIDAY.
“We should...probably go, Arthur.” Prudence finally speaks up, tone all soft and sad around the edges. How wondrous it would have been to escape this place WITH HER, but she was all duty. All forgetting the past with her Joy and pretending all of it was just a bad dream. “Before someone actually RECOGNIZES us.” So she takes his hand and leads him away.
