Defending of Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Defending Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Over the last couple of years I really started getting into Star Trek because over my life there were a lot of movies and TV shows that I just glanced over as a kid, that people would recommend that I watch. However I was definitely a stubborn kid and anything that wasn't jam packed with action wasn't interesting to me but as I got older I realized that the ones with less action had more interesting characters. This probably sounds pretty stupid to most people because that’s what a lot of us watch movies for is the characters in them and I just kinda didn't until later on. So I ended up watching The Next Generation for no reason besides for I was bored and it was on Netflix and I feel in love. The Characters tangled lives and how everyone fit together was perfect and amazing to watch unfold. So when I found out there was more then one series I immediately went back to the original and fell in love with those characters to. The triangle between Kirk, Spock and McCoy and the way that they played off each other was fascinating. So when I was finished with that show I went on to watch the other shows and the movies but I found out that a lot of people hated the original first movie and I couldn't understand why.
I realize that some stuff doesn't make a whole lot of sense like them watching the Klingons die or the people just sitting around waiting for the big cloud monster to kill them and yes there are some problems in this movie that with a couple rewrites could have been fixed. However people hated the outfits which were fine they had just became updated for a new look or how long some of the scenes were or some things the characters did. However I disagree I think they fit in perfectly with what the people making the film were trying to get across. The twists of characters that people didn't like were like Kirk using his power as admiral to take over the ship. This was interesting because that’s all he wants is to become a captain again. He accepted the honor of being admiral Kirk but yearns to be out in space again with his friends and now he finally sees the chance but lets his ego take control and steals it away from the new captain Decker who has earned his spot and now knows the ship better then Kirk and resents him. Decker try’s to shows that he could do this job without the help of Kirk when they are going through the wormhole and obviously saves the ship. Kirk wrapped in his ego scolds Decker but is show to be wrong because without him everyone would have died. This shows that without both sides of him the need for Spock because he is battling with one half of the voices that leads him, McCoys emotions and his ego, he needs a logical side. When Spock finally gets on board Kirk starts to become himself with also another side to help his decision making. Decker is now the outsides source getting the same information as Kirk and can provide alternative decisions then his own. I liked all of these things they showed because this shows what a real day in this world with these situations may look like. The battles between Kirks feelings, logic, ego and now age all show because of the change of times and decisions he has made in the past all building up to this point. People also say that there is no show of the human experience because its not shown using Kirk, Spock and McCoy its show with the voyager satellite. Now at this point people are probably thinking human experience with a machine? Whats this none sense but the voyager is like a human, its on a journey trying to find its purpose after being created and abandoned and now traveling the universe evolving and learning just like we are. But also becoming more and more dangerous as it grows. Over all when people say that Star Trek The Motion Picture is boring I really beg to differ it is an extremely interesting view on the journey through life dealing with the balance and understanding of coworkers, emotions, using logic for problem solving, and dealing with age and the change of times
Star Trek: The Motion Picture gets a 3 out of 5 for having great interaction of the characters dealing with their real life issues placed in an extreme situation but also has some problems that need to be fixed

Evil Dead New and Old comparison review
Evil dead
New and Old
So one of my favorite films is The Evil Dead, and I don’t mean the new one I’m talking about the good Bruce Campbell filled delicious B-movie goodness, funded by 4 college and some local investors. This movie is the real starting point for Sam Raimi and his brother the people behind the original spiderman trilogy and the new Wizard of Oz prequel Oz The Great and Powerful. However were not here to talk about that were here to talk about the differences and the stuff that I liked and disliked about both films. Just a warning I love the old film and I really tend to nitpick the new film because I worshiped the original for a very long time. Now lets be clear I really enjoy both films and there are definitely things I like about the new film. So as I go i'm going to be comparing both films and giving my 2 cents about them. First of all you know the demons from the humans by the color of their eyes. In the original the demons had solid white eyes and in the new film they had yellowish red eyes. I really prefer the original white eyes because it makes them less human looking then the already would have with normal eyes like they have in the new film but now they just have crazy color. For some reason them not having pupils scared the hell out of me and really felt more demonic. Something I liked about the new one is that instead of having a love interest they had love between friends and family because the main male character is just trying to make sure his sister gets off drugs with the help of a few friends. When it comes to the cast I enjoy the original cast because of Bruce Campbell but the acting for everyone else is kind of lacking but the new cast is great besides for the teacher, I really hated his character more then anything in this film because he does stupid stuff that seems like it would be in every horror film. For example he takes the book and then without anybody elses okay, decides to read it and I just didn’t understand why? Like he walked into a room filed with dead cats hung from the ceiling and he decides that its a good idea to even open it without saying a word of it to anybody else. Speaking of the basement I really hated how that it was super over the top crazy with decaying cats and the only person to smell it is Mia the main girl until they go and open it up. I really don’t believe for a second that one blood soaked carpet could cover up the smell leaking out from the basement of like 30 decaying cats. But off that topic of me nitpicking again one thing that I liked about the new film is that there was no sex there were couples in the movie but it didn't focus on a bunch of horny teenagers like ever other horror film. Another thing that I enjoy was the change from a male lead character to a female I thought since she is taking up the role of the “ash” type figure it would be cool to have them do this and I was really happy when I went and saw the movie that they actually did. The final thing that I liked in the new movie is that the ending is more satisfying with a real battle instead of ash just laying on his back trying to burn the necronomincon. Over all I really enjoy both films but both are definitely flawed and we love them for it.
I give the original Evil dead a four out of five for being wildly different then anything I had seen up to it and I give the remake four out of five for giving a pretty good job of filling the shoes of a cult classic.

Dune Review
This is Frank Herbert's 3 part mini Series, Dune. It aired on the Sci FI channel in 2000 and it came to be one of the highest viewed shows on the Sci Fi network. The story starts with our main character Paul going to the complete desert planet of Arrakis to join his father in leading the production of spice. Spice or spice Melange is whats said to be keeping the empire together. Over the whole course of the show it is show that there are many houses and they don't trust anyone outside their houses or really anybody in their own houses and are all controlled under the empire, now Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, leader of the house of Harkonnen is really angry because he has been removed from power of the spice production, he plans to reclaim it by killing the Atreides house leader, Duke Leto Atreides. After the duke dies paul and his mother fly into the desrt to try and escape capture. After this they find a group of the native people and over time become one of their people. However the native people on this planet have a prophecy of an off worlder that will be their savior (little jesus like) and of course he fulfills the prophecy and leads them to rise up and reclaim their planet from the empire and takes over spice production.
This is definitely a really short sum up the the series and there is a lot more going on in the show but for a way for you to grasp it you would definitely need to watch it for yourself. Its about four and a half hours long and kinda corny because the effects are very dated but if you can get past that it is a really good show and completely worth sitting down and watching the whole thing. Also now that its almost 14 years old if you find it you can probably get it for a pretty low price I picked it up at a book store for about 9 dollars and it was a special edition directors cut. I’ve watched threw the whole thing about 5 times since i've gotten it and I still don’t grasp everything that’s going on because there is really a lot to follow. But I love it the more I watch and I diffidently recommend it
Dune for me gets 4 out of 5 stars
