My birthday was this past Wednesday and I got my ears double pierced to celebrate! I originally got them pierced for my 8th birthday so I thought it would be fun to add on 30 years later. Who knows what I’ll get up to in another 30 years! I also ate a lot of seafood on and around my birthday.
One of Lars’ best friends who lives in Portland has been staying with us off and on for basically the entire World Cup and now he’s gone home! He is as good as a houseguest gets, but it is nice to have our space again.
Ugh my trivia team is discussing switching locations after twelve years due to escalating nonsense from our current bar’s ownership (we don’t know the owners). Most recently, they refused to hang pride flags to avoid “being political”, when the whole place is covered in flags, and we’re talking about downtown Seattle for god’s sake. That plus a few years of insane price and service charge increases and fucking with our favorite servers and bartender, who are great! Most likely going to find a new spot. Our longtime trivia host is also considering moving on, so maybe we can follow him!
The worst types of cookbook:
The Ottolenghi - it is vital that you use 1g of this very expensive ingredient. It comes from a 500g bag with a one-week shelf life.
The time machine - 15-minute recipe! First, leave to marinate overnight...
The dishwasher - one-pot recipe! Now decant your ingredients and wipe out your pot. And again. And again. And again.
The optimist - cook the onions until caramelised (2 minutes).
The kindergarten teacher - get one nommable little tree of broccoli and bosh that into boiling water. Delish!
The brand names only - ingredients: Ritz crackers, Philadelphia cheese, Cool Whip, orange Jell-o...
The 1950s palate - use one (1) clove of garlic and a small pinch of chili flakes (omit if preferred).
The why bother with a cookbook - to make beans on toast, gently heat a tin of beans and put on top of freshly buttered toast.
#the overachiever: make this very time consuming ingredient from scratch even though it'll end up tasting worse than store bought
Amen to this @akasanata. "Now make your puff pastry from scratch". How about no❤️
Of course I didn’t get any good photos but we were up so close for last night’s concert! This winery venue is not my favorite (shows are so early, crowds dgaf about the music, 75 classes of tickets/access), but I couldn’t pass up seeing broken social scene for the 500th time along with Metric and Stars.
We watched some World Cup stuff downtown today then had a very civilized shellfish lunch, followed by touristy stuff like the Chihuly garden and the monorail!
trauma dumpling
Oops I haven’t posted in a while. We won trivia tonight! Went to a wedding in Palm Springs last weekend! My cats are adorable - here’s Frank!
We have two of these beds, I promise.
I like this article because it’s not what you think it is.
the world is a strange and wonderous place
they call it amtrak because the trains am on the trak
me on an average day: i need a treat
me on a bad day: i need a deluxe treat
We hiked today! These are our friends hugging a very large tree.
Went to the beach for sunset. There were seals swimming around and putting on a show the whole time!
My little genius!
In other news, I am several rounds deep in an interview process so I’m hoping this works out!
