The Huntress Has Risen || talldarkandgrumpy
Kate screams because thatâs the only action her mind can comprehend to carry out. The last thing she remembers is the feel of Peterâs sharp alpha claws tearing into the soft flesh of her throat and the smell of blood. Then everything went dark, blank. She faded into nothingness. She died. She knows that she died.
She screams again because this isnât real. This canât be real. People donât come back from the dead. Somehow the sound of her ear-piercing scream amiss the stone, cold, quiet darkness calms the huntress and gives her a chance to take a breathe and look around.
She lets out a chuckle for probably longer than any sane person should have. âYouâve got to be kidding me.â An eye roll followed as she looked around the Nematon. Of course sheâd been here before, more times than she probably should have. She knew what this place was, but it had always been dead. There was something different now, something darker. Kate could feel it. She could feel the power that surrounded the Nematon, the power that was undoubtedly responsible for ripping her from deathâs claws.
Kate tried to stand, but her body was still weakened. Sheâs still wearing the same blood stained and dirt-covered clothes she was wearing the night she was killed. Obviously rising from the dead took a lot out you. She found herself crashing to the ground, getting light headed all of a sudden. Great. Just great. The huntress was stuck in some godforsaken root cellular without any way to get out or protect herself. She was a sitting wait, vulnerable to attack.
Derek had been wandering the forest when Kate screamed, looking for answers, so he heard it.
As to who had screamed, he didnât know, but he thought that someone might have been in trouble and needed his help, so he ran in the direction of the origin of the sound, and travelling at the speed he was, it took him only maybe a minute to reach the Nematon. He stopped at the treelike when he saw it though, trying to decide if it was worth it. You could literally feel the bad energy buzzing in the air, and after everything with Jennifer, he was hesitant to go there. Especially since it was his fault AGAIN, after what had happened with Paige. Man, he just never seemed to catch a break.
But, someone was clearly distressed so he got over it and pushed forward, but slowly, wandering up to the stump. Of course, he saw nothing, so he walked around to the other side and spotted the cellar door. He opened it and descended the steps quite warily, and since it was dark his eyes flashed bright blue to help with his vision. He smelt a familiar scent and was pretty confused for a moment, that was, until, he got to the bottom of the steps and his eyes spotted Kate.
 Seriously? Man.
Instantly through instinct he let out a low growl, watching her like a hawk. âWhat the hell are you doing alive?â Though he knew the answer because it was obvious that the Nematon had had some role to play in it. But, she looked weak, or that may have just been because she was wearing bloodstained clothes. The same bloodstained clothes as the night she had died. His feelings concerning that were kind of conflicted because despite what he said, somehow, he had some sort of feelings towards her because heâd been young and insecure.
He kept his distance from her, warily, his eyes still bright blue because of the dim lighting. And his anger. His anger might have had something to do with it.
Looking For a Stranger | Derek & Julia
She should have screamed, but her throat was closing in on her. She should have ran, and yet her body refused to move. Her body didnât register that she was in danger until she saw his eyes flash blue and he yanked her up off of her feet like she weighed nothing.
"I⊠I donât know what youâre talking about! I donât even know who you are! Look, I woke up alone and practically dying and I went to get help and you nearly ran me over!" Werewolves with blue eyes were bad omens, the killing of an innocent soul was a heavy weight to bear. It was possible that this wolf was hallucinating, projecting his feelings onto her, or maybe he was the one who attacked her in the first place.
"Let me go and you wonât get hurt⊠my friend is probably looking for me right now, and if she finds you threatening me youâll be sorry." Her tone of voice was much more confident than she felt on the inside, her stomach twisting and turning into a tight knot.
Any moment now, Kali would come running for her. Maybe if she said it out loud and believed it enough, her wish would come true. But the seconds ticked on and yet she still was alone with this man, no vicious Alpha ready to protect her love and her best friend. She really and truly was alone, vulnerable and defenceless.
"Please⊠I swear, whatever you think I did, youâre wrong."
Derek listened to her- really listened -and he was pretty astonished about what he heard. The steady beating of her heart, a pattern which indicated that she was telling the truth.
Or, at least, she thought she was.
Derek looked pretty startled and he let go of her arm as a reflex. He was left standing there with a baffled expression upon his face and he shook his head slightly, his eyes returning back to their usual shade of blue. "You don't...You're being serious, aren't you?" He asked, though it was more of a statement than a question. He was wondering how this, any of this, could have happened. His had she survived? And why didn't she remember anything? All the theories he had led back to one thing - the nematon.
"Jennifer, I..." He paused and watched her, "I'm Derek. Don't you remember me? Y'know? That guy you used to get close to the alphas then you went all batshit crazy and tried to..." Derek knew that no matter what he said, she wouldn't remember, so he was in quite the predicament. Clearly, she wasn't the same person who committed those crimes but again...She kind of was. Ethically, he was stuck between a rock and a hard place and he didn't know what to do. Kill her, hand her to the cops or wait until he knew the full story. He decided to go with the latter.
Derek arched his eyebrow at that though, "You're talking about Kali? She's...dead. She's been dead for a while. Look, I know you're scared and I know you don't know me, and I'm sorry for scaring you, but please just get in the car so I can explain everything to you. And...before someone sees you." He added the last part under his breath.
Comfort AU || Lydia&Derek
As her gaze fell on his face, she couldâve sworn that there was a brief flash of a smile; but it was gone so quickly that it seemed like she had imagined it all.
At his comment, she rose a brow, pursing her lips as she formulated a response. âYouâre so dramatic,â she said offhandedly, rolling her eyes in a teasing manor as she remained standing in front of him. âNext time, you should just cook something at home.â He was right to be careful. After all, he had been traumatized by hunters before, so it only made sense for him to be cautious. It made her wonder what itâd be like to constantly have to worry about hunters chasing after her; she imagined that it wouldnât be pleasant.
A brief silence surrounded them, which sent Lydia into a momentary daze. Stitching wounds closed was definitely something that would, for a normal person, prompt a few cries and shouts in alarm, however, throughout the entire procedure, Derek remained perfectly still and quiet. It was then that she realized that she and Derek probably had more in common than sheâd like to admit. They were both broken in one way or another. Both masked their pain behind a wall, being careful to never reveal their true emotions. For Lydia, it was a way to protect herself. She was taught from a young age to never show weakness, and admitting that something was wrong would make her susceptible to vulnerability, which she considered to be a sin.
She wondered if maybe that was what unified them â the fact that they were both broken in some way. They had some sort of connection â an unspoken one of course, but it was still undeniably there. She understood him and he her. Things felt natural, and yet, there was still this uneasy tension between the pair.
Her hazel-green eyes rested on him, studying him carefully. She tilted her head and lifted her gaze toward the ceiling in thought. âYou are in no state to be on a couch,â she stated simply. âBesides, I know youâll wake up in the morning complaining about how you have back aches and I donât want to deal with that.â Her eyes connected with his again, her neutral expression unfaltering as she parted her lips to speak. âYou can sleep in my bed tonight. Unfortunately, my bed is the only available bed at the moment, so youâll just have to suck it up and deal with it.â
A sigh escaped her lips as she swiftly moved toward her refrigerator and grabbed a bottle of water. âHere,â she said while handing him the bottle. âCan you stand or do I need to get a stretcher?â
Derek arched a brow. Dramatic, pfft. Yeah right.
Though it was kind of true. Derek just suddenly assumed that everything was his fault, even if he couldn't control it. It wasn't a conscious thought of course but generally throughout his life, he'd been the sole cause of bringing pain to other people, so he just tended to automatically take ownership of a problem when it wasn't his to begin with. So, she did have a point. Though he scoffed when she suggested cooking at home. Derek was...well. Derek survived on a diet of take away food and pot noodles. He never had time to cook, nor had he even been taught how to. Learning to cook had never been on the top of his must-do list. When he was younger, his mother focused on teaching him and his siblings how to survive in a world where they are hunted.
Again, however, he remained silent. He did this every so often, he wouldn't speak for a while and would just revert to his silent state once more, fully paying attention to what Lydia said an did, but just choosing not to comment on it because he thought he didn't really have anything relevant to offer at the minute. Plus, he was quiet at heart.
There was definitely this tension between them, and the werewolf didn't really understand why. It wasn't the type of tension you experience when you're around someone you don't know particularly well, nor was it the tension of an unsettled dispute. It was something different - something he couldn't quite put his finger on, but he felt it more and more whenever they made eye contact, his bright blue eyes mixing with her hazel ones. They were an unlikely pair, and this was an unlikely circumstance. If anyone walked in right now, they'd be profoundly confused as to why there was an injured man sitting in the Martin's kitchen, and secondly if it was anyone they knew, they'd be confused as to why they were spending time together.
Though, it wasn't like Derek had a choice in the matter anyway. It's been bleed out or come here. But, their group hadn't really noticed the two getting closer, either.
He opened his mouth to protest when she offered- well...rather forcefully insisted, that he take her bed instead of the couch. He may have been a monster but he was still a nice guy and the idea of kicking her out of her own bed sounded less than appealing. However, he soon shut it when he heard her tone of voice and just knew that arguing would get him nowhere - her mind as quite set, and Lydia was an extremely stubborn person. Derek wasn't going I question her on it.
So, he picked up his water and drank some, then screwed the cap back on and took his time, standing up slowly to test his physical boundaries. He was okay though, and he gave a fake laugh to what Lydia said, "hah, don't put me down just yet." He responded, then slowly made his way over to the stairs. He'd started to heal, albeit not as quickly as he'd like, so getting up the stairs had been easier than expected but still kind of a challenge. Using her as a guide, he found her room but then paused at the threshold and didn't step foot inside, just looking to her. "Uh, where are you going to sleep?" He inquired, then gestured downstairs, "if you say the couch, I'm going back downstairs and sleeping on it."
He then glanced around and pointed at the floor, "I'll sleep on your floor, get some blankets and pillows. I'll be fine. Better than the couch, anyway."
For such a big bad wolf, he sure was a softie.
