The Nekomancers come from a long line of powerful tabaxi mages. These mages have taken a solemn oath to tend to and care for the newly dead and eternally resting. Traditionally, they would be the ones to prepare bodies, perform rites, provide counseling for both the dead and the living, as well as tending to the final resting places of those in their care

After Camellia Stradivar rose to power, Mme Genesis received a vision of the destruction she would cause, and quickly crafted an act of desperate magic: A Potion of Hospitality, the steam of which spread throughout the valley, trapping the residents in the city of New Barovia within a silvery mist. The potion, in its rushed state, does not allow anyone or anything to leave, not even souls departing to the underworld.

The Nekomancers preserve the city like a fly trapped in amber, preventing the monstrosity of the vampire queen from escaping, but severing the villagers from the cycle of life and death. An act of blasphemy, but a sacrifice the two agreed would keep the rest of the world safe.

Madame Genesis maintains the perpetual stew in her cauldron, while her protege, Cinder, obfuscates the Nyacropolis, preventing uninvited guests and adventurers from finding and disrupting the Madame while she works.
