Not really but kind of an oc. Dark Ace's service dog Duchess.
You've likely seen her on @far-side-skies blog or in some rps quite a bit.
My dear friend stole her 😆
She's a loyal and very smart dog, trained to be a veteran service animal. Mostly for panic attacks and ptsd episodes but she's also capable of performing other service animal functions.
She was a gift from Austry and in some versions, Suzy Lu. Friends worried about Dark Ace's declining mental state. Duchess helped him a lot.
Short unfinished snippet i wrote forever ago from her pov, she is available for questions if anyone wants to send then her way.
[Scenario]
A woman is kneeled down in chains in front of Dark Ace. A supposed traitor to Cyclonia but he knows shes innocent. It doesn't change the fact that Cyclonis ordered him to execute her.
Her eyes look up to him fearfully. As Cyclonis watches him from the side. What are his actions now?

This felt too much like a repeat of Anarchis's time; the Empress's paranoia sparking false accusations and unjust executions. He'd performed several of them himself, when he was younger and far more afraid of the old woman's wrath. As he'd gotten older, and Anarchis had started to go senile in her final years, he'd taken advantage of her failing mind to circumvent her paranoid rulings. She would be left in blissful tyrannical ignorance while the people she falsely accused were able to escape her wrath and hide.
He did not have that luxury with Cyclonis. She was young, her mind sharp, and she insisted on watching this. There would be no pulling the clouds over her eyes so he could sequester this person away.
She stood there, waiting, watching him, her face cast into shadow by the light of Dark Ace's blade.
"No."
He shut off the energy blade and stepped between Cyclonis and the prisoner. He would not let history repeat itself.
Even if that meant losing everything.
Koalari shook, staring wide eyed at the Dark Ace, at her Empress. Accused of treason. She'd lived in the empire long enough to know to me accused was all it took to get thrown in chains. But this? This was new. At least coming from their child ruler.
She'd done nothing wrong though, she worked in the mines, analyzing crystals to send unique samples to the main citadel. Had one of her coworkers accused her? A commander she'd turned down?
Tears trailed down her face, she didn't want to die. Not yet, not now. Her life couldn't be over already.
She nearly collapsed at the Dark Ace's boo.ing voice, almost missing the single word as he moved between. Herself and the Empress.
Cyclonis's previously sharp smile morphed into a barely-restrained scowl when Dark Ace suddenly refused a direct order.
"What do you mean 'no'?" she hissed, looking back and forth between the Dark Ace and the traitor.
"I'm not doing this," the Champion growled. The sound filled the air, both Cyclonis and Koalari would be able to feel it pushing against them. "You are not doing this."
"I am your Empress, Dark Ace. When I say kill this traitor, your job is to kill her."
"And she's one of my people. I'm not killing one of my own citizens over baseless accusations."
"Are you questioning me?"
"I am! You were supposed to be better than this!"
They kept arguing, voices getting louder with every word sent between them. Cyclonis started getting in Dark Ace's face, getting closer and closer until she then tried shoving past him to get at Kaolari. The crystals in her staff lit up, revealing the murderous intent in her eyes.
"If you can't do your job right, I'll do it myself!"
Eyes wide, Dark Ace grabbed the Empress by the back of her robe and threw her back against the wall. Then he relit his sword and used it to break the chains binding Koalari to the floor.
"Run."
Terror at watching her Empress struggle with the Dark Ace to get to her raced through her veins. Koalari hadn't fought against her chains until that moment. If the champion of Cyclonia was willing to fight and protect her then she would fight too.
Once the chains were cut she did hesitate to bolt from the chamber, running as fast as her boots would carry her. Darting around corners before finding a room to duck into.
"Why are you doing this?" She asked after, panting hard with hands on her knees, "why spare me?"
Dark Ace stopped only long enough to lock Cyclonis into the room she'd chosen for the execution before running after Koalari. He wasn't nearly as out of breath as she was when they came to a stop, but there was a frantic look in his eyes like he couldn't believe what he'd just done.
"She wouldn't have stopped at just you," he said. "I know how this ends, and it is not pretty. It will only escalate if she thinks I'll support just… just killing every person who looks at her funny or uses the wrong colour ink to fill out a checklist."
Even though he hadn't lead the investigation against Koalari himself, he knew in his gut that something wasn't right with these accusations. Hells, there hadn't even been a proper investigation as far as he'd been aware. Cyclonis had put the woman in chains anyway and brought her to him expecting to see blind obedience the same way Anarchis had.
"You're not the first person to be killed for treason without real proof," Dark Ace confessed, "You're just the first that Cyclonis has done it to. I want to put an end to this cycle before it gets a chance to start again. Which means sparing you, and seeing if you're really as guilty as she thinks you are."
"Im not! I didn't betrayal Cyclonia. The empire is my home!" She shook her head, arms wrapped around her torso. She hadnt done anything she'd been charged with. Her breathing switched from the heavy panting to hyperventilating. There was nothing anyone would gain from her death either. She wasn't important or special. Just a low level mage who worked in the mines. Her magic wasn't even that strong, she was just good at identifying crystals and rating their quality.
"Who accused me anyway?" She asked, "whats the point?"
How was she even supposed to get out of this? Even with the champion protecting her for now, it wasn't like she had any way to prove her innocence. The Empress wanted her dead on principle it seemed.
"What am I supposed to do?"
Dark Ace listened. He believed in her innocence, but without a way to get Cyclonis of Koalari's back she wouldn't be safe in the Empire anymore. This being the first time he'd blatantly defied her to her face would no doubt fuel her rage.
"The way I see it, you have two options," he replied, "Go into hiding or work with me to clear this up. I believe you're innocent, but the foreman who accused you had proof that at least someone was smuggling crystals to Sky Knight forces. Rare, powerful crystals that could give them an edge in this war. If you choose the former, I have contacts who can help you stay under the radar and move somewhere out of the Empire's reach."
She looked at the floor, considering her options. She could run, but that would mean leaving her home, possibly forever.
"I can't spend the rest of my life running and hiding." She said, making up her mind, "I want to know who's smuggling crystals. It wasn't me."
She'd identified them, sure. Hand picked several that had gone missing. But She'd reported every one of them before sending them forward in the chain.
"It has to be someone after me, someone between the mines and transport to the capital."
Dark Ace nodded. He wouldn't have blamed her if she'd chosen to hide, but choosing to stay and face things head-on was admirable.
"The crystals change hands several times, don't they?" he asked. Mining and crystal distribution was handled by Cyclonis and another member of Cyclonia's Council. "From you, to someone who preps them for transport, the transport ships or a courier... are there any steps that I'm missing?"
"Theres a receiver once it reaches the capital and then whoever takes the crystals to the Empress. Its not always the same person for a lot of those steps too. Theres probably about 10 possible points crystals could go missing." She counted, making her best guess as to the rotation of the other positions.
That was a lot of points to sift through with very little time to do it in, considering the state the Empress had been in.
"Could it... have been the foreman who accused me? He thought he was going to be caught soon so he started pointing fingers?" She hated the idea but it made sense making her the scapegoat for him.

Well, since she was first up for rp lets talk about Koalari.
She's a Cyclonian mage who works in the mines, rating and categorizing crystals. Its not a huge job but an important one. She also helps keep a vein stable while they mine it. So something as volatile as a firebolt crystal doesnt explore or go off during extraction.
She left her home terra at a young age when she learned she could preform crystal magic. The back water place she was born considered mage craft evil and shed have been chased out eventually had she been found out.
Sweet and mild mannered, Koalari is very soft spoken and very rarely raises her voice for any reason, even if she is angry. Stubborn and strong willed, she doesnt give up easily. Determined to learn and grow her magic.
She loves dragons and wishes they hadnt been hunted to extinction long before she was born.
I dont have any art of her yet so instead have a character creator image of her. Eventually she'll get art made.

"Why are you doing this?" She asked after, panting hard with hands on her knees, "why spare me?"
