Hello,

I am Talula Merriwether Mays, an artist from a small town in Virginia. I grew up in an emotionally unstable household, and my artwork comes from a place of processing traumatic memories and cognitive distortions, to search for the things waiting within the subconscious. It is about holding onto what is left, seeing it for what it is, and trying to salvage it.

I work primarily in sculpture, painting, and video, with an emphasis on miniatures and the metaphor of the mind as a house. You can see more of what I'm doing in the following places:

Yesterday was my birthday 🖤

I took this with a soda can, during a pinhole photograph exercise at my local art center's photography club. This was a six minute exposure, on a day with very little wind. I love how many details were captured (uncropped version below)

to elaborate on the situation at hand a bit:

Last month, a stray cat showed up behind our apartment in the cold. The next day, my partner had a work-related back injury, immediately followed by the big snow storm. He works with autistic kids, and their clinic follows the local school systems so they were closed for a week. With these two things back to back, we lost nearly half our income last month. Sweet little Mobin has been living patiently in quarantine in our bedroom as we get our finances together to sort out our bills and get his worm treatment.

Thank you for the shares and purchases from my last post about it. We have an appointment for the 17th, and just need to get some of our bills in order before then. Help me raise vet funds for this little stray cat we found!

I found this beautiful boy in the cold just before the snow storm, and I am trying to raise money for his vet bills. His name is Mobin.

He's had his preliminary checkup to get a rabies shot and make sure he wasn't microchipped, but unfortunately he has worms, and he needs a full vet exam, worm treatment, other vaccinations, and neutering.

To raise money to get this precious baby in good health, I've re-listed some artwork on my website at a heavy discount. Most of the work in my shop is half the price it was previously, including the sanctuaries, small masks, and other little houses. If you think it's worth more, feel free to leave a tip at checkout, but I just want to get him healthy. Shipping within the U.S. is free on orders over $40
