Cayt: It was a lot of fun — though difficult — to get the look we wanted out of these pages. I'm pretty proud of them.
Ari: The writing of this scene (as well as the masterful art by Caytlin) was partially inspired by the stories children who were in extremely traumatic experiences tell when they grow up; so much of it is impressions, noises, smells, certain faces, blurs with moments of clarity.

Foxglove Comics has a new website! This has been an ongoing project for the last year and I (Caytlin) personally put a ton of work and overtime into it, including lots of new little illustrations around the site. Go check it out!!
Cayt: This sequence was a lot of fun for me. I referenced photos of dog fights to really bring the unsettling savagery into it. Piper's mention of "animals" is a reminder that there are regular animals in the world, and creatures (the sapient, anthro characters) consider themselves above animals and animal instincts. It's a constant throughline in the story, if you know where to look.
Ari: Balancing comedy and serious themes is often a challenge, but it's never hard to lighten the mood when Piper is around.

Cayt: This was a really difficult sequence to get right but I am very proud of how it came out. Trying to get across that Kira can be scary, showing the different kinds of emotional turmoil the two are dealing with, and trying to get across what Cur has been wrestling with internally while also starting to bring down the Consequences Hammer™ was a difficult balance to strike. There's more to come, of course, but I'm very happy with this setup. Ari and I worked our butts off on it. Incidentally, happy 150th page of this chapter! @_@
Ari: And we begin to really see the full extent of the damage that this system has brought on the children of Treehollow. Tamberlane, like Cur, found herself alone, without a guiding hand of a parent, but unlike Cur, she found a safe place to land in Belfry. How might things have turned out differently if Cur was able to open his heart again? It's so hard to trust again once you've been betrayed. I'm so proud of this sequence and what's coming after it. And yes, happy 150th of this chapter!!!

Ari: Sometimes I still dream about my childhood home and all the things - good and bad - that happened there. I think it's a beautiful thing that Cur has turned this place into a hideaway for he and his friends. It's good to be able to form new and positive memories in a place full of complex old ones. Sometimes though, it's hard to let those old memories go.

The next scene may take a little bit longer to come out as we are making sure everything is as good as it can be, and then it will require making some new assets/backgrounds. It shouldn't be *too* long though -- we've made a few passes through the script already, and it probably only needs a couple more.
When I work on the backgrounds and such, I'll probably stream to Patreon, so any Cuppa Tea+ patrons can stop in and watch!

Ari: This scene was such a blast to write as a way to bridge the tone of the early chapters and newer ones, especially seeing how Piper and Anthony's "discussions" have evolved as they've gotten older. Anthony is standing up for himself more! Good for him! Also, it's nice to get a chance to see how the other kits feel about Cur's treatment.

Have a nice, grounding moment between mother and child. I looked around for some good techniques for introducing kids to box breathing (breathe in 4 seconds, hold 4 seconds, breathe out 4 seconds, hold 4 seconds) and this was what I found. I really like it!
