Karur Marathon and Walkathon Energizes the City with Minister Senthil Balaji
Karur: Karur witnessed a lively and inspiring gathering today as thousands of residents participated in the Karur Vision 2030 Marathon and Walkathon, organized jointly by CII and Young Indians. The event, held at Karur Thiruvalluvar Ground, emphasized fitness, community spirit, and local development.
The program was inaugurated by Minister Senthil Balaji, who hoisted the national flag and addressed the participants. In his keynote speech, Minister Senthil Balaji highlighted the city’s growth ambitions, stating, “Our goal is to elevate Karur’s economy to Rs. 50,000 crore by 2030, while preserving the rich heritage handed down by our ancestors for future generations.”
Key dignitaries including Collector Thangavel, S.P. Josh Thangaiah, Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Faisal, Karur Corporation Commissioner Sudha, and Taluka Commissioner Mohanraj actively participated. Leaders from CII and Young Indians, including Vice President Perumal and Yogesh, also attended. Security was efficiently managed by ADSP Prabhakaran with support from DSP Selvaraj and Karur City Inspector Manivannan.
The marathon featured multiple categories: adults competed in 10 km and 5 km races, while children aged 8 to 14 participated in a 5 km race. The adult walkathon covered 3 km. Thousands of men, women, and children participated, enjoying the competitive yet friendly atmosphere. Minister Senthil Balaji personally encouraged participants, inspiring both the young and the elderly to embrace fitness and community involvement.
Winners were awarded trophies and certificates along with cash prizes—Rs. 10,000 for first place, Rs. 5,000 for second, and Rs. 3,000 for third. Fourth and fifth places received trophies and certificates, and all participants were given complimentary T-shirts and certificates of participation.
Temporary traffic restrictions were imposed on Karur Thiru.V.K. Road to ensure smooth conduct of the event, resulting in minor congestion from Karur Lighthouse to Amaravati River Bridge. Authorities coordinated traffic management and safety measures efficiently throughout the day.
The enthusiastic turnout and organized execution highlighted the city’s commitment to health, civic participation, and development. Minister Senthil Balaji’s presence further reinforced the importance of community-led initiatives and Karur’s vision for a prosperous future.
