Building Project Update

Leadership Training Course
As a believer grows and becomes more mature in their walk with Jesus, an itch will begin to develop to take more responsibility with what they have been given. We get into trouble, however, when we feel that itch and run into leadership without being prepared for it. The faithfulness to follow that call to lead is admirable, yet at the same time it’s dangerous when one is not properly equipped to back it up.
This is where our Leadership Training Course comes in. This class is designed for people who are growing in their relationship with Jesus and are beginning to take more of a servant leader role in their microchurch. We will cover topics crucial to the role and development of a leader, with hopes that upon completion of the course they will be well equipped to contribute to the leadership of the community.
This class will be held once a month for eight months on the 4th Monday (with the exception of December), at the HUB at 6:30 PM. In addition to the lecture, there will be a meeting once a month with your sponsoring elder to debrief and discuss how the class material and concepts apply to the student’s ministry.

Foundations
There seems to be a similar journey many people take through discipleship. Someone comes to know Jesus and begins to delve into the love of God. The more we come to understand God’s love for us, the more we’re motivated to spend time in the word, prayer, community, and outreach. Our life of faithfulness flows from Jesus’ love for us. The more we are faithful to these disciplines, the more likely we are to be offered a place of leadership. Serving in leadership almost always begs the question of calling. And when we know our calling, we are likely to go start something new.
At the Underground, our events are aligned in this way. We host Jesus Encounters so people will experience the love of Jesus and come to trust him for the first time. We host the Leadership Training Course to develop leaders. We host the Calling Lab to help people discover their calling. And we host Elders in Training for people to learn how to step out in faith and start something new.
Now, in addition, we’re excited to host our Foundations class, covering the basic ideas and disciplines of the Christian faith. A few of the classes will include an excursion where we can begin to practice what we’ve been learning in the class. All this will be done in pairs, so you will have a partner to hold you accountable.
Here are the classes we’ll be offering.
Discipleship is the process of becoming more like Jesus
Jesus is everything for us, and we know him through his word
We were saved—and now live—by grace
Our intimacy with Jesus is deepened in prayer
To trust in Jesus means we try to do all that he says
We love God if we love each other
Our needs are met in meeting the needs of others
The simplicity of Jesus gives freedom
The Spirit empowers us to live a life of faithfulness
God uses his people to advance his kingdom, disciples make disciples

Student Sunday
Research shows us that college students continue to be the most spiritually independent and resistant age group in America. Twenty-something's pull away from participation and engagement in Christianity, particularly during the college years. In fact, the most potent data regarding 'disengagement' is that a majority of twenty-somethings (61%) are no longer following Jesus as they were as teenagers.
We don't need statistics and a polling company to convince us of the importance of reaching students, college and high school alike. At the bare minimum, we need to be equipping and empowering our students to engage the lost and the least, and at the most joining them. But, wherever we land in this spectrum, we need to be active with them and for them.
So, we are hosting a Crucible just for students. This Sunday we'll gather for worship and teaching centered around commissioning our students in the Tampa Bay Area to reach their schools. We'd love for everyone to join us and come around these young leaders and bless them as the school year starts. Come out this Sunday as we send out a team of Christians to bring the kingdom to campuses all over our city.
Finally, as we know it’s always helpful to have food available when recruiting students, there’ll also be Eddie & Sam's Pizza available at the end of Crucible. Be a part of this great commissioning.

Violetta’s story
"Sometimes God will be gracious enough to use our community as our eyes and ears."
“Zeal and Contemplation seem to be competing but I began to notice that they are not, the two work in tandem with one another. As you find yourself in one it should actually be stirring you up to be ready to go out into the other, and as you are in the other you should be ready to go back to where you were originally.”
Anthony shared with our community this weekend about the importance of being both zealous and contemplative.
“There is a cost to reaching the whole world and you have to have the faith to pay it.”
Chandra spoke to our community about pressing into our faith and obeying God in order to impact the world.
“Being empowered changes who you are. You can be sent, you can go do ministry, but without the joy, reassurance, and strength that is received from the empowerment of community, your family, and God, you might quit.”
Noah shared about how the empowering community he grew up in shaped his view on how God could use him at a young age.
“What we believe about women and the way God sees them has eternal and lasting implications.”
Stacy Gaskins spoke at Crucible on Sunday about Black Swan Effect, a class offered at this summer’s Underground Institute.

Monday-night Coaching Bar
Our coaching department exists to provide fresh eyes and listening hearts for kingdom-minded leaders, helping them pursue what God has called them to in our city.
If you’re a microchurch leader who is just getting started, or if you’ve been leading a microchurch for a while and feel like you could benefit from some fresh input, the coaching department would love to walk alongside you.
This summer, take advantage of our Monday-night Coaching Bar. Anyone (whether they already have a coach or not) is welcome to join the coaching department on July 27th from 5:30-7:30pm on to receive coaching based around five areas of focus: starting something, teams, planning, innovating, and multiplying.
Crystal’s Story
"All my life I've been learning to improvise, and I've come to see that improvisation is contextualization. When you improvise, you are stepping into a scene, interpreting what is going on." Crystal shared with our community about how her life has prepared her for improvisation, and how improvisation has prepared her for contextualizatized ministry.
Inner-Healing Prayer || Summer Institute
As we work with a variety of people, we quickly realize just how wounded and broken people are. One of the most terrifying experiences as a leader is the realization we might not know how to lead another person through prayer as they attempt to sit before Jesus to heal their wounds.
Jane Stephens spoke at Crucible on Sunday on this summer’s institute class, inner-healing prayer.
“When we have a wound on our skin, we treat that wound that has become infected by applying an ointment to it. This might bring some of us some relief, we might relieve some inflammation, we might control the pain of it, but we will not heal the wound. Until it is lanced and drained the wound will not heal from the inside out, it is the same with the wounds from our soul. We want to give you some tools to help you learn what God has taught us about leading another person as they sit before God and empty their wounds.”
The class will serve to equip ministry leaders with skills to walk someone through inner-healing prayer by looking at different dynamics of shepherding someone through this prayer time, and learning how to steward an experience like this to help someone pursue freedom in Jesus. This class will not only contain theory, but time set aside for practice as well.

Edison House
The Edison House is one of the newest initiatives of the Lake House Network.
Just North of Martin Luther King Blvd, Edison House is right in the heart of their busy neighborhood. While they’re a part of the Lake House family, they are as unique as their neighborhood, and look to see Jesus in the faces of their neighbors and the people who live life around them.
