my thoughts on legion season finale:

me: david no, what are you doing, don’t do this to syd, this isn’t gonna end well. also me, seeing things not ending well: SCREW THESE GUYS, TAKE LENNY AND LEGION IT UP.

What bothered me about the finale is how quickly everyone turned on david (for future crimes no less) and as messed up lenny is, she was the only one who saved him and had his back.

I hate to say it but

There’s a right way to do the “hero-becomes-villian arc”

And that was not it

David raped Syd.

It seems that the fandom is ablaze due to that moment. The problem is that there’s more nuance to this story that makes N O B O D Y look good. Especially David. As you know, I’m a girl who loves her some nuance and tries to understand why shit happens so let me explain. 

First thing’s first, DAVID WHY. Every time David tries to execute a plan, it fails for the most part. Farouk ends up winning one over him. Clearly. David should’ve just told everyone at D3 that Syd didn’t seem like herself and tried to kill him and let Farouk go. It was clear she was being manipulated. And what does home boy do? Suppresses her memories and tries to prove himself that he loves her so much by having sex with her. Make her feel things that weren’t real.

UGH. NO. Why he is so afraid of being honest? With like anyone? Is he afraid that nobody would believe him? So, he tries to cover his messes which turn into even bigger messes. Good fucking job, right? 

Knowing that tidbit allowed Farouk the wiggle room he needed to get everyone on his side and everyone against David. It worked. Farouk managed to get David isolated and everyone point the finger at him. What does David do? Embrace the omega level mutant that he is and leaves with Lenny. Yeah. The fact that it took Farouk like two seconds to achieve that makes me hate him even more, but also I want to know how he interacts with everyone over at D3. 

And another thing, Legion fandom? 

Come closer. 

A little bit closer. 

Okay, good. 

Read carefully. 

David Haller is an anti-hero. 

He’s a grey character. You can’t put him in black or white. No boxes. One moment you love him and then the next minute, you want to strangle him. If you can’t understand that then it’s clear you need to read the comics, because the roller-coaster ride that is David Haller’s character development is the only thing that Noah Hawley made sure to keep canon on the show apparently. He’s done so many terrible things in the comics and tries to do what he considers is good, but it still ends up being problematic as fuck. 

Hopefully, season three will do a better job at exploring that roller-coaster.
