Jack would know her anywhere. Had walked her decks enough to memorize her rigging and the way she sounded, the way she sounded. She was his and no one else's. Navy commander be damned. He would take her back. And with Morgan, Jesse, Amira, and Harwick crowded at his back, it would happen tonight. Imminently.
"Morgan's goin' up the walk with me, the rest o' ya climb the nets." A glance behind saw Morgan nodding with an uncertain glance to Jesse beside him. Beyond them Amira and Harwick looked much more determined. Everyone understood why Morgan wasn't climbing up the side, but the preferential treatment didn't sit with the siren well. "Yeah?" Jack pushed.
"Yeah." Morgan whispered back, but his hand squeezed Jesse's wrist for a second before everyone broke apart to head to their stations. Jack straightening his back and adjusting his coat and the hat on his head before he started up the dock. Morgan followed after him, pulling his own coat closed with his fist as he did.
There were no officers on patrol on the dock. This wasn't a Navy port. This was Torunda; a pirate port. What they were doing here with HIS ship, Jack could only guess. Perhaps it was simply a stop on their way to Heilstroth. They would likely turn in his beloved Tempest Rose and she would be remade into some HMS ship. She had been one before, after all. The HMS Emilien. The old man's Emily. Jack's Emily. Fuck.
Morgan lagged a little behind him as they neared the bridge walk that led up to the deck and Jack reached back for his hand. Dragging him up with him and pulling him in for a moment.
"I'm not gonna let anythin' happen to ya, nor that babe. You know that." he assured and Morgan sighed, shrugging out from under his arm.
"Let's go. We've got work to do." Jack smiled at his steeled nerves and clapped a hand against his back before starting up the walk ahead of him. This time Morgan didn't lag. He scurried up the walk quickly and close behind, pausing only when Jack stopped at the deck. Ducking low and looking for anyone on guard.
But there was someone on guard. No man, of course, there was no need. And perhaps ot was because she would not let them be that they were scarce on her decks. But the moment Morgan felt someone grab his ankle, lurching his feet out from under him and then up over his head as he was flung up in the air, he knew. They were not alone.
It was a fight not to shout as Morgan was jerked upside-down and hung from the rigging. Jack jumped to grab him but was half a second too late and cussed loudly. Then he felt the second rope. This one snared his waist and pulled hard. He had to grab the railing lest he be thrown from the deck completely.
"Emily!" Jack did his best not to shout, but his whisper was loud enough as he glanced up at Morgan dangling from the rigging, getting red in the face. "Shit! Christ! For the love of— Emily!!"
