God it’s been way WAY too long since I’ve posted. I’ve missed writing like a motherfucker while I’ve been trying to navigate my way through some personal things. Even though it’s been a while, I promise none of my stories have been abandoned. I am planning on editing/rewriting some chapters, continuing them, and post some new ones as well! Anyway I’m excited as hell for a little comeback and I can’t wait to put writing back into my daily routine🩷🩷🩷🩷
YALL😭😭😭 It’s been a wild wild ride these past couple of months with my personal life and my motivation went to a complete 0. I deeply apologize for a lack of updates but writing is still on my mind every day and i just need to motivate myself to finally put words on paper. I’m hoping to get back in the groove of things very soon. I just want to say I appreciate all of you and I will be back soon🩷

You hum happily while letting the sun beat down on your face. The tranquil water was warm, and the air was cool, a perfect combination. It was glassy, and see-through enough to see the clusters of fish swimming side by side.
Your feet created ripples in the water as you moved further away from shore. This was exactly the kind of vacation away from school, away from responsibilities, that you so desperately needed.
Getting out on the lake was always something you’ve adored since you were younger, and that was something that hasn’t changed over the years. Joanna was the same way. You could have sworn that she was a mermaid in a past life. When you were kids, your father would practically have to drag her out of the water when you came up to the house during the summer.
Paddleboarding was introduced to you by one of your friends during your freshman year of college, and you’ve been obsessed ever since. You would practically spend every weekend with her out on the closest lake to campus, hanging out on the water with a couple of drinks while floating around on the paddleboard. You had bought your own instantly, and of course, you had to take Joanna out on the lake the first chance you got.
It was something that got you away from shore, allowing the two of you to be in complete privacy. The only interruption you would ever face would be the fish brushing against your feet as they dangled off the paddleboard.
“Where were you last night?” Joanna brought your attention over to her. Her eyebrows were furrowed, and a slight frown curved on her lips.
You matched her expression when you looked over at her, wondering why she would be making such a face towards you, “What do you mean?”
“You didn’t come into bed until like two in the morning. Where’d you go?” She interrogated.
You were taken aback by her question. You thought she was fast asleep and that she was still asleep when you snuck back into the room after your little rendezvous out on the dock with Joel.
“I was just out on the dock.” You shrugged like it was no big deal. It wasn’t like you were lying to her. You were, in fact, out on the dock late last night. She didn’t need to know the exact details.
“Until two in the morning?” She asked in her typical big-sister manner, which never failed to annoy you.
“Yes, until two in the morning.” You didn’t bother to hide the irritation in your voice. You felt like you were getting lectured. That was the last thing you needed when you were innocently trying to enjoy a peaceful vacation.
Joanna kept the skeptical look on her face, knowing that you weren’t telling her the whole truth. That was the worst thing about being her sister. She knew you better than anyone else.
“I was out on the dock spending some time with Joel. Sue me.” You rolled your eyes, still not going into full detail.
“Joel was out there with you, too?” Of course that was all she seemed to care about.
You sighed heavily and rubbed your eyes with a shake of your head.
“What the hell do you do with Joel until two in the fucking morning?”
You laughed quietly to yourself, and a faint blush painted across your cheeks as you recalled the events from the night before. You tucked a piece of hair behind your ear and shook your head once more. Your flustered look was enough of an answer for Joanna.
“No fucking way…” she mumbled, putting the puzzle pieces together.
You laughed quietly and nodded, confirming her suspicions.
Joanna widened her eyes, left speechless as she stared at you, “No fucking way…” she repeated, letting out a short laugh. You couldn’t tell if it was genuine or not.
You blushed even darker the more you thought about it, “He’s amazing, Joanna,” you whispered happily, in your own little world, “I’ve never felt like this for anyone before.” You told her honestly.
Joanna raised a skeptical eyebrow, running her fingers through the water and creating ripples in the path. She mumbled something underneath her breath that you didn’t catch.
“Hm?” You hummed, tilting your head.
Joanna ran a hand through her hair and sighed heavily, taking you by surprise, “You have to tell dad.” She mumbled again, but this time loud enough for you to hear.
Your heart sank. You were hoping that she would be happy or excited for you. She was the only one who knew about you and Joel. She knew about all the douchebags that came in and out of your life, and she knew about how miserable they made you.
Joel was the complete opposite of all those assholes. He was kind, gentle, sweet, loving, and everything of that nature. He was everything you wanted and more.
“I can’t tell dad,” you refused, “You know he would freak.”
“You're fucking his best friend. His only friend. He’s old enough to be your goddamn father, do you realize that?” She lowered her voice, scared of the possibility of your father or Joel overhearing the conversation.
You rolled your eyes once more, “That doesn’t matter. I’m an adult, I can do whatever I damn please.” You argued back, not in the mood to take any of her bullshit. You didn’t care if she was right or not.
“You’re acting like a child,” Joanna retorted, “If you're sleeping with one of Dad's friends, he deserves to know, doesn’t he?”
“It’s not like it’s a permanent thing. Joel and I have an agreement that it’s only gonna to be till the end of the week. Once we leave, I’m going back to school anyway. I probably won’t even see him again until Christmas. It’s just a little bit of fun.” You explained to her, trying not to let what she said faze you.
Joanna kept that same judgmental look on her face, which you tried your best to ignore.
“Well, I hope you have your fun while it lasts,” Joanna muttered with a shrug, “But you should think about telling dad.” She persisted.
You ignored her comment about telling your dad. It would be the right thing to do at the end of the day, but you knew it would only hurt everyone involved. And so, you decided that was a problem you didn’t need to worry about now. You wanted to enjoy your time with Joel, and that’s what you were going to do, no matter what Joanna had to say about it.
┉┉┉
You stayed out on the paddleboard with Joanna for a while longer until your feet got pruny. You squeezed the water out of your hair as you walked back up onto shore, feeling the blades of grass tickle your feet.
Joanna was still out on the lake, but you weren’t really in the mood to continue having a conversation with her.
You started heading inside when you saw your dad out with Joel by the grill, cooking up some lunch for the four of you.
You slowed your steps and tied your hair up, trying to subtly move closer to them to hear what they were talking about.
You caught pieces here and there as you stepped closer, their voices muffled.
“Seems to me you’re doing a hell of a lot better after that divorce.” You heard your father laugh as he flipped over a brat on the grill.
You stayed still as you listened to them, steeling yourself to get a taste of their conversation.
The mention of Joel’s divorce created a sour taste on your tongue and a churn in your stomach. You bit your lip to hold back on rolling your eyes.
You never liked remembering that Joel had been married at one point. You didn’t like to think about how he fucked you when he was still married. It was a mixture of jealousy with a touch of guilt.
You remember the jealousy you used to feel whenever you would see the two of them together. And then the guilt would hit immediately after for even feeling jealous in the first place. The guilt only grew the moment he slept with you for the first time.
And now, being reminded of it by your father, all those familiar emotions came back to you, hitting you like a semi-truck.
You were about to walk away before you heard what your dad started to say, “Have you seen anyone else since?” He questioned, flipping another brat over on the grill.
You bit the inside of your cheek as you listened in on their conversation. You were praying that Joel wouldn’t say anything about Andrea. You didn’t want to hear him mutter that name again. It wasn’t like it was anything serious between them anyway. It was one night, it was casual. It didn’t mean a thing. That’s what you liked to believe.
If you squinted your eyes, you could have sworn that you could see Joel turning a shade of pink at the subject of his current dating life.
Joel shrugged and shoved his thumbs in his front pockets, “I mean, not a lot of time for datin’ around, ‘specially at my age.”
Peter chuckled and nodded, “I feel the same way. Ain’t got much time on my hands to find another woman.”
Joel laughed along with him and smiled. He glanced over at you, noticing your presence, and smiled a little more before turning his attention back onto Peter, “But I’ve had my eye out. Maybe someone’ll catch my eye one of these days.”
You felt your heart skip a beat when you heard him, your blush darkening when he looked over his shoulder and made direct eye contact with you. He was talking about you.
It was vague, but it made you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Maybe his feelings for you were more apparent to you than you had initially realized. You loved knowing you could have this kind of effect on him. It was a boost to your ego, that was for sure.
You didn’t say a word as you walked past the two, but you made sure to brush past Joel’s shoulder as you walked by.
┉┉┉
You headed into the house to grab a couple of plates for your dad. Stepping into the kitchen, you opened up the nearest window to let in a light breeze. You sighed happily, letting the air hit your face as you reached up into the cabinet to grab a couple of disposable plates for lunch.
“Need any help there?” Joel’s voice startled you from behind, and you immediately looked over your shoulder to see him standing behind you, reaching up into the cabinet to grab the plates.
“I don’t think I need much help in getting a couple of plates,” you chuckled, but thanked him when he handed the plates to you, which you set them down on the counter right behind you.
“Just had to make sure.” He whispered gruffly and lowered his hands down to grab onto your waist, pulling your back into his chest.
You giggled quietly, not being able to stop your blush from heating up your cheeks, “You just wanted to get me alone, didn’t you?” You accused playfully.
“Maybe…” Joel admitted, leaning down to press a kiss to your earlobe, then to your neck.
“So, you’ve been keeping your eye out, hm?” You grinned and turned around to face him, placing your hands in the middle of his strong chest.
You felt Joel’s smirk on your neck at your words. He continued to stay silent, peppering gentle kisses along your neck.
“Find anyone you’re interested in?” You smirked and pulled away from him to look into his eyes. The question wasn’t serious, but a part of you wanted to know the truth.
The blush was prominent on his cheeks.
“I believe so…” Joel whispered, glancing down at your lips as he spoke. He wet his lower lip with his tongue while holding onto your hips, bringing you in closer to him.
Your bodies touched, and you felt his clothed erection pressing against your thigh. Whether intentional or not, you always had this effect on him. An effect where he was insatiable whenever you were around. All of his self-control was thrown out the window the second you were in his arms.
A chill came into the kitchen through the open window, catching your attention. You could hear the birds outside and your father faintly talking to Joanna.
As your focus was outside through the window, Joel’s was still stuck on you. You felt his thumbs rubbing circles in your hips as he held you close, not daring to take his eyes off of you. It was as if he were to look away, you would disappear out of his reach.
When you stepped back to peek out the window, Joel took one step forward and pressed his lips to your neck once again, feeling the breeze when it came in through the curtains.
You giggled as his mustache tickled your skin, your head leaning back.
“You have no idea how hard it is to keep my eyes off of you in this little bikini of yours.” Joel groaned against your skin, gripping onto your hips a bit tighter.
You were still a bit wet from being out on the water, but neither you nor Joel seemed to care all that much. He still wanted to be all over you.
“Such a tease, lookin’ all sexy like this. Knowin’ I can’t do a damn thing about it.” Joel grumbled into your ear, his hands snaking their way around your waist to grab onto your ass.
Your cheeks heated up as you moved in closer to him, his erection now very prominent against your thigh.
Joel hooked the bottom half of your bikini, tugging you in closer to him. His mouth stayed on your neck, biting and kissing little love bites here and there.
“Joel…” you groaned, knowing that your father might catch those little marks he was leaving so carelessly on your skin. If not your father, Joanna was sure to say something about it. But yet, you didn’t want him to stop.
“The windows open, someone could see something.” You whispered. Contrary to your words, you stayed right where you were and tangled your fingers in his hair.
“No one’s gonna see nothin’,” Joel assured, keeping his hands firmly in place.
You laughed at his boldness, loving how little self-control he had whenever he was around you, “My father could see.” You warned, biting your lip as you looked him up and down, fucking him with your eyes.
You could tell him to be careful all you wanted, but the look in your eyes betrayed you. That look told Joel everything he needed to know.
You wanted him to fuck you right over the counter. Quite honestly, it was all you were able to think about whenever you looked at him. With his strong arms popping out of his flannel, or the way his eyes would darken with lust whenever he would look you up and down. He was irresistible.
It always baffled you how he stayed single after his divorce. You would have thought women were ready to pounce on him the second they got the chance. But as it turns out, he was waiting for you to come to him first. Just knowing that drove you wild.
Joel held onto your hips gently as he led you backward to the counter until your lower back hit the surface. His hands remained on your waist as he lifted you up swiftly with ease, positioning you on the kitchen counter so you were now eye level with him.
“Just say the word if you want me to stop, sweetheart,” Joel mumbled in your ear, his calloused fingers from years of work and playing guitar scratching your thighs as he stripped you from your bikini.
The rush and the thrill of the fact that your family could walk in at any second made your head dizzy in the best way possible. Joel didn’t even care. He needed to fuck you so bad, right here, right now. He couldn’t handle another second without being inside of you. He didn’t care about your father still being outside, oblivious to what was happening on his own private property. Little did you know, it excited him just as much as it did you.
Joel groaned quietly when he slipped your bikini down to your ankles, seeing your pussy practically glistening from how wet you were for him. His cock twitched at the mere sight.
He slid one finger through your folds, your wetness covering his finger. He bit his lip and shook his head, almost as if he was in disbelief at it all.
He still couldn’t believe that someone as young and beautiful as you would want a man like him. He was older, grumpier, and had already seen the worst of what life had thrown his way, but you still wanted him at the end of the day. Why? God only knows.
His mouth watered at the sight of you as he slid his fingers through your slick wetness once more. He could already taste your sweetness on his tongue. He could already feel you squirming under his touch as you begged for him to give you more.
Joel licked his lips before tugging off his belt, taking no time to waste as he pushed his pants and boxers down to his ankles, his cock already red and throbbing with need to be inside of your tight pussy.
“So nice and ready for me already.” He cooed with lust deepening in his voice as he rubbed your folds, coating his finger once again.
Pre-cum was leaking down his tip, and you wanted to reach down and lick it up for him, tasting his sweet, sweet release.
Still sitting on the countertop, you maneuvered yourself to open your legs for him, his hands guiding your entrance to meet the tip of his cock.
Your clit tingled at the anticipation of him inserting himself inside of you. Slowly, inch by inch, Joel pushed his length inside, gripping onto your ass to bring you in closer.
It was deliciously slow, feeling the entirety of his cock burying deep inside. You could feel every vein and crevice that you loved so much as he fucked you slowly, rocking your hips onto his cock.
Another breeze came in through the window, still very much open, as he continued to fuck you slowly.
There were only two full days left with you, and he wanted to savor every damn second.
He’s been inside of you multiple times before, but each time felt like the first. The excitement that rushed through him and the warmth that shot through his dick every time he pushed in and out of you… It always felt like the first time he was experiencing the delight that was you.
Without warning, Joel picked you up from the counter, his hands still holding you by your ass. Instinctively, you wrapped your legs around his waist and your arms around his shoulders.
He held onto your hips tightly and feverishly pressed his lips to yours. You moaned against his lips, his tongue taking the opportunity to slip into your mouth, tasting as much of you as he could.
“Fuck…” Joel groaned against your lips, pulling out and dropping you back onto the ground.
Before you even had a chance to complain and whine about the sudden emptiness, he whipped you around by the hips, bending you over the same kitchen counter. Now, you could feel his hard cock pressing against your ass cheeks, still slick from being inside you just seconds before.
“Such a good little girl, bending over for your daddy to fuck you nice an’ slow.” He drawled, his fingertips tickling your skin as he traced them down to your lower back before leaving a quick smack to your ass.
You gasped and bit down on your lip, getting so wet that you could practically feel your own wetness dripping down your thighs. You chewed on your lip as he placed one more slap to your ass, trying your best not to scream or moan out in pleasure. Your family was still outside. With one wrong move, everything could collapse.
Joel didn’t seem to mind, though, as he smacked your ass once more, leaving your behind red and tingling before pushing inside of you once more, filling that cold emptiness.
You whined quietly as he filled you up inch by inch, rubbing soothing circles into your thighs. As he fucked you nice and slow, Joel kept taking glances out the window to make sure that Peter and Joanna were still occupied, unaware of what was going on inside.
Your heart raced with the thrill of it all as he fucked you. He reached over to rub his thumb over your clit, your knees nearly buckling out from underneath you.
“Easy girl,” Joel grumbled in your ear as he fucked you in and out, all while keeping that delicious friction on your clit. He knew your weak spots by now, just as you knew his. He knew what made you squirm under his touch, or what made you release just for him. He knew it all, yet he wanted to know more. When it came to you, Joel was a greedy, greedy man.
“Nice an’ easy.” Joel’s voice was soothing in your ear, keeping a rhythmic thrust as he fucked you.
You were soaked against his cock. He thrust into you balls deep, ravenous to feel more of you.
“All mine…” Joel whispered in your ear, gripping your hips with a possessive touch. He could feel you pulsating against him, getting closer and closer to your own release.
His words were enough to finish you off. You arched your back and came against his cock and fingers, your head leaning back to rest on his chest.
Joel guided your hips through your orgasm, kissing your neck soothingly while feeling you throb against his cock. He tried to hold himself back for as long as possible, but he soon realized that was a lot harder than he originally thought.
While you were still coming down from your own high, Joel erupted inside of you, his cum filling you up nice and fast.
You bit down on your lip so hard that you could have sworn you tasted blood, just so you wouldn’t be heard from the outside.
Joel grunted quietly as he finished inside of you, kissing your neck soothingly down to your shoulders. You were breathing heavily with your head resting back along his chest, your eyes closed while coming back down to earth.
You both were in complete ecstasy together, neither of you wanted to return to reality.
Joel’s scruff tickled your skin as he kissed your shoulder. You could feel his heart pounding as you rested against his chest.
“All yours, huh…?” You repeated his previously said words, out of breath as you spoke.
Joel chuckled when he heard you and smirked a little more, nodding slowly, “All mine.” He confirmed, his voice much softer as he held you close to him.
Unfortunately, you would only be all his for the rest of the week…
A Little Bit of Texas Fun | Chapter Six: Been Trying to Ignore You
authors note: chapter six!! this series is starting to get rolling and i can't wait! a bit of a shorter chapter but it's an important one, promise! This was supposed to come out tomorrow but I went to go see Paul McCartney live and got a lil distracted oops
series summary: The night of your wedding, you sneak off with your new husband’s best friend. What was supposed to be a one time thing ends up being a two time thing, to a three time thing, to a once every week sort of thing. When you thought you had mastered keeping everything a secret, your husband finds the pregnancy tests.
series warnings/tags: 18+ pregnancy, no use of y/n, infidelity, husband’s best friend, no outbreak au, age gap (Joel is 36 and reader is around 25)
chapter summary: After finding out the news, you struggle to find a way to break it to Joel.
You wanted to believe that the first test was just a fluke. Maybe you weren’t pregnant, and it was only a false test. That was the only thought that helped you calm down enough to fall asleep, whether or not you truly believed it.
You waited until Daniel left for work to run back to the drugstore to gather up some more tests. You needed to confirm this nightmare before you started worrying yourself sick.
You already felt like you were going to throw up as you waited for the results. As you paced around the bathroom, five different pregnancy tests sat on the counter, processing your results.
Your heart was a hammer in your chest, pounding profusely. Your heartbeat drummed violently in your chest. Each beat deepened the nausea in your stomach. You prayed and prayed that at least one of the tests would turn back negative. Maybe that would give a little bit of peace of mind.
You stopped dead in your tracks when the timer on your phone went off in your hand. You wanted to puke on the spot. You wished that there was someone there who could look at the tests for you, could reveal this nightmare of a reality, but you were all alone. Your hands trembled with anxiety as you forced yourself to gather up the courage to look at the tests. All you could do now was hope.
With shaky and sweaty hands, you set down your phone on the bathroom sink. Reaching out to look at the first of five pregnancy tests, your heart plummeted into your stomach.
Positive.
You threw it out immediately and went to look down at the second.
Positive.
Your hands became more clammy as you feared looking at the next couple of tests. You already had a good feeling about what the results would be.
Positive, and positive.
Tears pricked your eyes as you held onto the four positive tests with a sweaty grip. Reality was slowly starting to sink in, and you knew that there was no going back now. One incorrect pregnancy test was plausible, but four? There was no denying that.
You didn’t even need to look down at the fifth one. When you did, you weren’t the least bit surprised.
Fucking positive.
You’re pregnant. There’s no denying it or trying to convince yourself otherwise anymore. You didn’t know if you wanted to cry, throw up, or both.
There would only be a few months where you could try to hide the pregnancy. But it was only a matter of time before you started showing, and the questions would come piling in.
This was supposed to be a time of your life that was exciting and joyful. Finding out that you’re having a baby was supposed to be a blessing. You’ve always wanted to start a family. But not like this, not now.
Instead of being over the moon like you thought you might have been when this day came, you were beyond fearful. You felt stuck, alone, and scared.
You weren’t sure if you were even ready to bring an innocent child into this world. You were already in a very rocky marriage that you didn’t want to be in. But that wasn’t the thought that scared you the most.
Even though you were married to Daniel, you already knew that he had nothing to do with this pregnancy. Since your wedding night, you barely even let Daniel touch you. You recoiled every time he tried to have any sort of physical contact with you. He was a disgusting man, and his touch made you feel revolted. You couldn’t even remember the last time the two of you slept together. You knew that it was way before your wedding night. The two of you haven’t been with each other intimately in months. This baby couldn't be his.
But you knew whose it was.
The only man you’ve slept with in the last couple of months was Joel, your own husband’s best friend. The realization that this baby was his hit you harder than a truck, leaving you unsteady on your feet.
You leaned back against the sink and squeezed your eyes shut before shoving all five positive pregnancy tests into the trash bin. You didn’t even want to look at them. You couldn’t bear it. It only served as a reminder of the cruel reality you were living in.
You weren’t mad at Joel, not at all. If anything, you were angry with yourself for allowing this to happen. You didn’t necessarily regret sleeping with Joel. He made you feel things that you didn’t even know you were capable of feeling. And each time, you came running back for more. Joel gave you what Daniel wasn’t able to. He made you feel like you were cared for and worthy of being loved. It was your fault for running back each and every time.
Your mind was spiraling, trying to figure out what your next step would be. You didn’t want to tell Daniel, and you sure as hell didn’t want to tell Joel. You at least had some time until the pregnancy became too noticeable to hide. You didn’t want to keep a secret from Joel. But you were terrified of how he might react when you told him news as big as this.
You didn’t know how you would be able to face Joel after this. You weren’t sure if you could.
┉┉┉
Every day that passed was only harder than the last. You had this huge secret that was weighing down on your shoulders. You had to keep it buried and to yourself, the weight only getting bigger and heavier.
Your conversations with Daniel were short, but that didn’t seem out of the ordinary for him. He didn’t seem to notice as he was too busy worrying about himself, like always. He couldn’t even see that there was something wrong with you. If he did, he didn’t seem to care.
When it came to Joel, you were ignoring him completely. There was no way you could face him after you found out that you were pregnant with his child. That was too much information and stress to put on someone. And you didn’t want to lose Joel in your life. That was your number one fear out of all of this. It was the one fear that outweighed the others.
Joel was the only one who had helped you get this far with Daniel without losing your mind. You didn’t know what you would do without him. You didn’t even want to think about it. You were currently living out your worst nightmare. You wished that with a pinch, you would be able to awake from this unpleasant dream.
You leaned back on the couch with a heavy sigh, flipping through channels on the television in the living room. It was the sort of night where you would treat yourself to a glass of wine, but obviously, that wasn’t an option for you anymore.
Nothing on the television even remotely caught your interest. Movies, shows, news, sports… it was all the same blur to you. Your mind was still set on Joel and the situation you were stuck in.
It was late. Normally at this hour, you would have been tucked away in bed. But each time you closed your eyes, your mind would race and your body would tense. Sleep was impossible.
Daniel was working late, yet again. Or, that’s what he had told you he was doing anyway. You knew better than to believe him.
It wouldn’t be surprising to learn that he was out getting drunk with his friends or hooking up with another woman behind your back and thinking that he was being sneaky with it.
While you used to care about these sorts of things, once you were married, it didn’t bother you anymore. You just turned a blind eye to it all.
After all, it wasn’t like you were much better than he was. That same night you vowed your devotion to Daniel, you had cheated on him with his own best friend. And now you were carrying his child. You were just as bad as Daniel. If not, worse.
You groaned quietly before turning off the TV. It was useless trying to find some brainless show to distract yourself with. Not when all your worries were bubbling up in your mind.
You glanced down at your phone and sighed softly. Multiple missed calls and text messages from Joel. He left a few voicemails, each one showing his growing concern about your disappearance. You knew that he was worried about you. And you knew that the more you ignored him, the more worried he was becoming.
But each time you thought you got the courage to pick up that damn phone and call him, your thumb would quiver over the call button, and you’d chicken out.
You weren’t sure how you were even going to face him again after finding out about everything. There was now physical proof of your affair, and there was nothing you could do about it anymore. There was no more hiding.
You were terrified. And the idea of Joel running off when he found out the truth scared you even more.
You stared down at your phone, pulling up Joel’s contact yet again. You wanted to call him more than anything. You missed everything about him, especially on nights like these when you were lonely and scared. All you wanted was to be wrapped up in his arms, hearing him whisper to you about how everything will be alright.
You hovered your thumb over the call button yet again, trying to find the courage to give him a call. But just like every other single time you’ve done this, you didn’t go further than staring down at his number.
You couldn’t do it. Not yet. Not now.
You set your phone on the couch face down before getting up, rubbing your tired eyes.
You struggled to fall asleep that night.
┉┉┉
The next day wasn’t much different. Daniel was busy at work, leaving you alone in the house for the day. He should be home soon, which was something you had been dreading. It was hard enough being alone, but being alone with Daniel was unbearable.
You’re struggling to relax as you lie on the couch, your head leaning backwards on the back of the sofa with your arms crossed across your stomach. You’ve been nauseous all day, and you weren’t sure if it was the pregnancy sickness or the anxiety. After all, you’ve been doing nothing but worry yourself sick for the entire day.
You rubbed your eyes and yawned quietly, ready to head up to your bedroom and get some sleep, or call it an early night. You were debating the idea when you heard a knock on your front door.
Furrowing your eyebrows, you stood up from the couch to check. You weren’t expecting any visitors, and you didn’t think that Daniel was either.
With a deep breath, you cautiously made your way over to the door. Much to your surprise, Joel was on the other side when you opened it.
He stared at you intently, neither of you saying a word.
This was the first time seeing Joel since Thanksgiving, since finding out that you were pregnant. A lump formed in your throat as you stared at him in silence. Joel kept his stare on you, as if trying to analyze your body language and read your mind.
“You haven’t been answering your phone.” Joel was the first to speak.
You were stunned to say the least. You had so much to say, and you didn’t even know where to start.
“M’sorry…” You mumbled quietly, the only words that you could find as you opened the door a little more, allowing him inside.
“I was worried sick about you, y’know that?” His voice was stern when he walked through the door, closing it behind him.
You looked down as you took a step back. There still wasn’t much you could say, despite there being so much that needed to be said.
“I’m sorry.” Were the only two words you could get out yet again. You stared down at your feet in guilt and shame, not wanting to face him. That would only make all of this even more real.
“What’s been going on?” Joel let out a defeated sigh and ran a hand through his hair.
You remained silent. Your lips felt as if they were glued shut. You still refused to look him in the eye.
Joel gave you a few seconds of silence before he sighed again, “Are you okay? Will you at least tell me that much?” He probed. He wasn’t giving up easily. With you, absolutely not.
“I’m fine.” Your voice shook. He could tell you were bullshitting the second those words left your lips.
“What’s going on with you?” His stern voice turned into something more gentle as he took a step closer. He was just concerned, he really was. This silent treatment you’ve been giving him was out of the ordinary for you.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” You rubbed your eyes and hesitated before looking at him for the first time since he’d set foot inside your house.
Joel wasn’t satisfied with the answer, “Darling,” he frowned and took a step closer to you, tucking a piece of hair behind your ear, “You’re startin’ to scare me.”
You swallowed hard and stepped away from him. He was making this tougher for you without knowing it.
“I told you I didn’t want to talk about it. It’s getting late, Daniel’s going to be home at any minute, and I doubt he’d be too happy to see you at this hour.” You shook your head with your arms crossed.
That didn’t seem to faze Joel in the slightest, “I ain’t goin’ nowhere ‘till you tell me what’s been going on with you lately.” Typical stubborn Joel.
With a weary sigh, you rubbed your eyes. The stress was already getting to you, and this was making it so much worse. Of course you wanted to tell Joel, but how could you without him running off? You didn’t want to lose him, that was the worst thing that could happen.
But you knew you needed to be honest with him, too. You knew he would be more upset if you continued keeping this a secret.
Staring down at your feet, you were interrupted by Joel calling out your name.
“Just tell me what the hell is wrong before I lose my goddamn mind!” He exclaimed, the frustration getting to him.
You barely even thought before you blurted out, “I’m pregnant, Joel. I’m fucking pregnant, okay?” You raised your voice before hiding your head in your hands, not daring to meet his eyes.
Joel stayed silent as he stared at you in shock, feeling his heart stop in his chest. He felt dizzy as he stared at you, trying to process what you had just told him. Tears burned in your eyes, threatening to trickle down your cheeks as the loud silence filled the room.
You couldn’t look at him. You couldn’t face him. The truth was out now. There was no turning back.
I’ve been so sick man😭😭 stomach bug to flu to fevers it’s one thing after the otherrrr. I’ve had no energy to write but I’m slowly but surely getting back on my feet🤪

The sun peeped in through the curtains, waking you up much earlier than you initially wanted to. Groaning sleepily, you cuddled further into Joel’s arms. You smiled when you felt him squeeze you gently, desperately trying to bring your body in closer to his.
He was warm, comforting. It was the best sleep that you could recall having in years. You didn’t want to get up. And by the looks of it, neither did Joel.
As you nuzzle yourself deeper into his chest, you recollect the memory of last night and how close Joel’s lips were to yours. You could remember the feeling of his hot breath hitting against your skin, and the way his thumb caressed your cheek as if you were the purest thing on this earth.
Sure, Joel has touched you before, he’s fucked you before, he’s let you suck his dick before, but he’s never kissed you. Sharing a kiss was such an intimate thing that it was a line the two of you have never crossed. Except… you almost did just last night.
You weren’t able to stop thinking about it. You kept imagining how it must feel to have Joel's lips pressed up against yours, how his tongue would feel slipping into your mouth. Your cheeks violently burned at the mere thought.
Joel was in the same boat as you were. As he held you close in his arms, he kept replaying the moment in his head. He couldn’t help but wonder what would have happened if he had gone all in and kissed you. He wanted to taste your sweet, soft lips on his. He wanted to hear your quiet moans against his lips as he slipped his tongue into your mouth. He wanted you.
Joel stirred a little in bed, already awake with his eyes still closed. He didn’t want to let go of you, pulling you in as close to him as humanely possible. He knew the moment he let go of you that reality would come and hit him in the back of the head.
Slowly, you were the first to open your eyes. You squinted, trying not to let the blinding sun into your eyes as you looked up at Joel. You caressed his stubbled cheek, the tickling of your fingers causing him to open his eyes.
He looked down at you with tired eyes, giving you a small smile that was followed by a yawn, “Mornin’.”
“Morning.” You smiled right back up at him. Your heart was soaring in your chest. You had always fantasized about what waking up to Joel would look like. But this was even better than anything you could ever imagine.
His voice was deeper than usual due to him just waking up from a deep sleep. His dark eyes were partly shut, and his greying hair was all tangled up at the top of his head. You don’t know how he managed to do it, but Joel looked even sexier in the mornings, freshly awake.
“How’d you sleep?” Joel mumbled, rubbing your back up and down with his large hand.
“Best sleep I’ve had in years.”
Joel chuckled at your response, “Same here, darlin’. If I could wake up to you every mornin’ like this, trust me, I would.”
His words made you blush. He really was doing a terrible job at not showing his feelings for you.
Joel glanced down at your lips and was instantly reminded yet again of your almost kiss the other night. His heart ached in his chest, wanting nothing more than to kiss you. It killed him to hold himself back.
If your father were to ever find out that Joel was even thinking about kissing his little girl, he would be dead meat.
You took a deep breath when you noticed him glancing at your lips. You knew that Joel wasn’t going to have the balls to say anything, so you brought it up.
“Joel, last night…”
“What about it?” Joel’s voice was gentle as he reached over to caress your cheek. You instinctively leaned into his touch, savoring every part of it that you could.
“I still want to kiss you.” You were flat out with it. No beating around the bush this time. You knew what you wanted, and you knew that Joel knew as well.
Joel closed his eyes and exhaled deeply when he heard you. He’s already had this conversation with you more than once. He didn’t want to have to have it yet again.
Before he could say anything, you kept talking, “I know you still want to kiss me too.”
Joel looked back over at you, the hand that rested on the small of your back tensing slightly. He remained silent.
“Am I wrong?”
You already knew the answer. So did he. His silence was answer enough.
“We only have a few days left,” You whispered, moving in closer to him. You could feel his hard on touching your thigh as you scooted further into his arms, “Let’s take advantage of the days we have left. You want me, and I want you. It’s only going to get harder if we keep trying to push this aside. Why not give in? Just for these few days? And then we can go our separate ways and move on. You’ll go back to being just my dad's friend, nothing more. Promise.”
You didn’t know how much truth was held in that last part.
Joel stared at you in silence, taking what you said into consideration. His hands on your cheek and your back stayed still, contrary to their caresses just seconds before.
“Just for the rest of the week, I’ll be all yours. Nobody has to know, no one will ever have to know.” You shook your head slowly while staring into his eyes, trying your best to convince him.
He’s tempted, that’s for sure. He knows that you’re right. It’s only going to get more difficult, especially for him, if he keeps trying to ignore how badly he wants you.
“I’ll be yours for the week.” You whispered, and you could feel his cock twitch on your thigh and his hand grip your waist.
Joel swallowed hard. The entire time you were talking and trying to convince him to give in to temptation, he kept stealing glances at your lips that didn’t go unnoticed by you.
He was finally starting to crack that shell and let his walls fall down for you.
“Once the week ends, we just pretend that none of this ever happened.” You persuaded him further.
Joel’s heart was pounding, and his cock was throbbing. It was going to be impossible to say no to you. There was no point anymore trying to stay away from you when you have already proven that to be impossible.
“So? What do you say?” You whispered, reaching your hand down to grab his dick through his sweatpants. You stared into his eyes, begging him to give you what you’ve wanted from him all this time.
Joel glanced down at your lips again before pulling you in closer to him, pressing his erection into your inner thigh, “Jesus Christ, girl.” Joel grumbled before cupping your face with both of his hands, pulling you in for a desperate kiss.
You closed your eyes and feverishly returned the kiss, not wasting a single second. He held onto your face with one hand, his other one snaking down to your hips to bring you in close.
His tongue slipped its way in between your lips, and you moaned at the sensation. He tasted even better than you could have ever imagined. He was sweet, with a faint hint of whiskey. His mustache tickled your upper lip as he kissed you.
Quickly, you made your way into his lap, and he adjusted himself in the bed, sitting up. He gripped onto your hips as if his life depended on it, your lips never parting.
“Fucking hell, you have no idea how much I’ve thought about this. About you.” He pulled away partly to mumble against your lips.
It satisfied you to hear him finally admit it and mean it. You rubbed yourself over his clothed erection, a guttural groan escaping his throat as you did so.
“Shh. My dad's still sleeping.” You teased, whispering quietly in his ear before nibbling on his earlobe.
Joel groaned once again and leaned his head back slightly, his fingers digging into your hips. He had half a week to savor this, and savor you was what he was going to do. There was no way in hell he was going to let this opportunity pass.
“Don’t mention him,” Joel demanded lowly. The last thing he wanted to think about was your father right when he was about to fuck you.
You laughed quietly to yourself and smirked. You always loved riling him up.
You slipped your hand down his sweatpants and into his boxers to feel his hard, throbbing cock in your hands. As your thumb swept past the tip, you felt the excessive amount of pre cum that was leaking. And it was all for you.
You felt him twitch in your hand, and your panties grew even wetter. Joel looked up at you as you sat on his lap, his eyes staring intently into yours.
Swiftly, he pulled down your pants just enough to reach into your panties. With two fingers, he caressed his fingers over your wet folds, groaning quietly when he felt just how soaked you truly were for him.
Your mouth opened agape, and you let out a gasp when he inserted one, then two fingers inside of you. He curled his fingers, never breaking eye contact while he finger fucked you.
You could still feel his aching cock in your hand, pre cum dripping down onto your fingers. Your eyes slowly rolled in the back of your head as he eased another finger inside of you.
Joel bit down on his lip to suppress a moan when he felt you clench around his fingers. He couldn’t wait for you to do the same around his cock.
“So damn pretty…” Joel whispered, rubbing your hip with one hand while he kept finger fucking you with his other.
You rolled your hips forward, trying to get some friction on your clit before he squeezed onto your hip and removed his fingers from your pussy.
You whined at the sudden emptiness, grinding your hips against his clothed erection to try and make up for it.
“Not yet, sweetheart. Daddy’ll make you feel nice an’ good, just you wait.” He whispered gruffly, spreading warmth all over your pussy.
The way he was talking to you was so dirty yet so exhilarating. You already wanted more.
His mind was going wild, none of his thoughts coherent. All he could think about was how good and warm you would feel wrapped around his cock. Just the simple thought of it made him throb with need. He slipped off his sweatpants, then his underwear, revealing his aching red cock.
Joel’s fingers dug into your asscheeks, squeezing and groping you while moving your wet pussy up and down his cock. He wanted to fuck you already. But at the same time, he wanted to relish and savor every moment that he had with you. After all, he only had a few days to finally do what he’s been wanting to do with you for years. He wasn’t about to take any second for granted.
He hadn’t had sex with a woman after his divorce. Sure, there was that one time with Andrea where they had almost ripped each other's clothes off, but Joel didn’t let it go further than just kisses and touches. He knew that if he went any further with her, he would only be able to think about you. He would picture you as he fucked her. Even when they were just kissing, he was imagining you when his eyes were closed.
Joel grabbed the base of his cock, holding onto your hip with the other to keep you in place, “So wet. All this for me, baby girl?” He cooed, looking up at you with lust-filled eyes.
You nodded rapidly, wetting your lips with your tongue before looking back at him with eyes pleading for him to fill you, “All for you, daddy.”
“Fuckkk.” Joel groaned lowly and lined the tip of his cock up with your entrance.
Using any form of protection didn’t cross his mind. He only got you for a few days, and he was going to make the most of it while it lasted. He wanted to feel you, all of you.
Your back arched as he slowly began to fill you up with his dick, stretching you out nice and slowly. His cock was even better than you remembered it to be. This is exactly what you’ve been craving, and now you've finally been able to get another bite of the forbidden fruit.
He grabbed onto your hips with both hands now, pushing himself inside of you completely. He stayed still for a moment, relishing the feeling of you sweetly wrapped around him. Joel leaned his head back, his mouth agape, while he let out quiet breaths, his eyes fluttering shut. You just felt so damn good. He would be a happy man if he could just stay here with you, sitting on his dick.
He pushed into you balls deep and stayed still, allowing you to adjust to his size. He knew he was big. He knew he was thick. And you were so deliciously tight.
He sucked in his lip, gripping your hips so tightly that it was bound to leave bruises when he let go.
Your heart was still racing. You couldn’t believe that Joel actually agreed to this with you, to have a little affair that would last for less than a week, just the two of you. It felt like a dream. A dream you never wanted to wake from.
“You feel so damn good,” Joel mumbled into your ear, his hot breath sending goosebumps all over your body.
He pressed a kiss on your earlobe before slowly starting to thrust inside of you, his hips moving up and down carefully.
He needed to be quiet, and so did you. Your family was still fast asleep in their own rooms, completely unaware of the fact that Joel was balls deep inside of you.
Joel kissed from your ear down to your jaw, then down to your neck. His stubbled cheeks tickled your skin, but you relished every messy kiss he pressed against your neck.
“Fuck.. daddy…” The name left your lips naturally. You barely even realized you had muttered it before Joel stopped his thrusts for a moment, his grip on your hips getting even tighter.
It was as if something had unleashed out of him when he heard you whisper such a dirty name in such a dirty way. His cock throbbed inside of you, and he wanted nothing more than to hear you say it again and again.
He had remembered you calling him that exact same thing back when you turned 21. And it has never left his mind. Shamefully, he found himself touching himself more than once at the thought of you calling him ‘daddy’. It turned him on every time he dared to think about it. He never thought he would hear those words leave those precious lips of yours, but he wasn’t complaining. Not in the slightest.
“Fuck… you don’t know what you’re doin’ to me, baby.” Joel shook his head and began thrusting his hips up faster, your clit rubbing on his pubic hair. It was only getting more intense the faster he went.
You looked up at him with innocent, lust-filled eyes that drove him insane. That was the look that made him want nothing more than to fill you up and make you his. All his.
You smirked when you heard him. You knew you drove him mad. You knew you made him do things he never thought he would do in a million years.
“Fuck daddy…” You moaned out.
The second you did, he bit down hard on your neck before kissing and sucking the same spot. He needed you, and he needed you bad.
“Daddy makin’ you feel realll good, hm?” He grunted, his thrusts increasing in pace and intensity. His voice was low and gruff. You could feel the vibrations in his chest every time he spoke. He had no idea just how good he was really making you feel.
You nodded quickly, your hair falling into your face, which he immediately pushed back to see the little movements you were making. He loved the way you would squeeze your eyes when he hit just the right spot. Or the way you would suck in your bottom lip each time he groped your ass.
“And you’re all mine. Understand that?” He whispered in your ear. It wasn’t a question, but a command. If you were going to be his for the rest of the week, then you were going to be his.
You nodded again. There was nothing you wanted more than to be all his.
“Good girl.” He praised, still keeping his voice low and quiet.
You clenched around him, your head leaning back in pleasure as he praised you. You loved being his good girl. You were willing to do anything to please him.
“Shit,” Joel quickened his thrusts, moaning out quietly when you clenched around his cock. He felt himself getting closer to his release, but he tried his best to hold off for as long as he could. He didn’t want it to end. He wanted to be inside of you as long as he could.
But with each movement of his hips he made, the closer he got.
You wrapped your arms around him, your fingers scratching down his back. He was dangerously close. But he wasn’t going to allow himself to finish before watching you cum first.
“F-Fuck daddy…” You whimpered out, biting down on your lip when he snapped his hips into yours.
“Gonna cum for me, baby? Gonna let yourself go all over daddy’s cock?” He stared deeply into your eyes, his gaze full of lust and desire.
Just his words were enough to get you going.
You gasped in delight when he reached his hand down to rub your already sensitive clit. You needed to remind yourself over and over again that your father and your sister were still in the same house. No matter how much you wanted to, you couldn’t scream out about how good Joel made you feel. Instead, all you could do was let out incoherent whispers and moans about how fucking good he felt inside of you and how you wanted more of him.
“Daddy…” Was all you were able to get out as Joel feverishly massaged your clit. His fingers were soaked in your wetness, his thrusts never slowing down.
“Mmm…” Joel hummed lowly and bit his lip, watching you squirm under his touch, “That’s a good girl now. You’re doing so good, princess. Thassit…” he groaned as you rocked your hips against him. Every movement and motion you made drove him wild.
It wasn’t much longer until you lost yourself and finished all over his cock, your sensitive pussy throbbing as you rode him through your orgasm. Joel guided your hips with his large hands, his thumbs rubbing soothing circles into your hips.
Your back arched as you held onto his shoulders tightly. Beads of sweat were building on your forehead, your breathing getting quicker and quicker. You were out of breath, it felt like you ran a whole marathon when really, it was just Joel Miller giving you the time of your life.
Watching you fall apart on his cock was what had sent him over the edge. Everything about you was so damn beautiful. Every inch, every crevice, he wanted to memorize every single part of your body.
Joel gripped onto your hips like his life depended on it as he filled you up, ropes of his hot cum shooting inside of your tight cunt.
He tried to calm his labored breathing while holding onto you, his twitching cock still deep inside of you.
“Fuckin’ Christ.” Joel breathed out, resting his forehead against your own.
He couldn’t remember the last time he’s had sex like that. Intimacy with his ex-wife always felt like a chore. After her, he never bothered hooking up. He was too old for that kind of shit. Even with Andrea, it never felt as exciting as it did with you. You brought out a side of him that he didn’t even know he was hiding.
A smile found its way onto your lips as you slowly moved off of Joel. Emptiness and coldness hit you instantly, and you already wanted him inside of you again. You craved him like a drug. You wanted to get addicted to him. You practically already were.
You giggled quietly and smirked before opening your eyes to meet Joel’s. His eyes were heavy as if he had just woken up from a deep sleep. But that same drunken smile matched yours.
You were both relaxed, happy, and neither of you wanted to get out of bed.
“You’re fuckin’ incredible, darlin’. Y’know that?” Joel whispered, pressing a sweet kiss to your nose, causing you to laugh once more.
“I’ve been told once or twice.” You grinned.
“Well, I’m gonna tell you again. You’re unbelievable…” He mumbled, leaving soothing kisses down your jaw.
You hummed peacefully and leaned your head back, your eyes fluttering shut.
You cuddled up close to him, ready to fall back asleep in his arms.
┉┉┉
You had somehow convinced Joel to spend the rest of the day with you. Even with some extra persuasion and some begging mixed in, he agreed to take you out into town to do some casual window shopping.
You wanted to buy a new dress, and Joel already knew how impossible it was to say no to you. Besides, it gave him an excuse to get you out of the lake house and alone, all to himself. He didn’t need to hide you, didn’t need to stay as far away from you as possible. It actually felt nice, freeing, really.
And this ‘affair’ the two of you had going on had a time limit, and it was only for a few more days. Joel wanted to enjoy it while he could. After all, when the week ended, he wouldn’t be able to hold you in his arms again. He was going to cherish every second, and he’d be damned if he didn’t.
“Do you really need another dress?” Joel raised an eyebrow and looked over at you as you walked side by side, his hand intertwined with yours.
“I mean, I don’t need a new dress, but a purple one would look nice on me, don’t you think?” You smiled up at him, already well knowing what his answer to that would be.
“You’d look sexy in anything,” Joel mumbled quietly just to you, as if he was worried about someone hearing him.
“My dad’s not around, Joel,” you reminded him with a playful glare, “You don’t have to walk on eggshells. Even if you do want to fuck me right here, right now. Not like you gotta hide that.” You couldn’t hold back your smirk as he glared right back down at you.
“Watch it,” he warned.
God, he was so damn sexy when you got him riled up. The furrow in his eyebrows or the dangerous look in his dark brown eyes… fuck. It was like he didn’t even have to try.
Even though Joel didn’t show it much, he enjoyed his time out alone with you. There were no worries or stressors, and he didn’t have to hide how he felt about you.
He didn’t need to worry about anyone seeing the two of you out together, either. It wasn’t like he was going to see any of them ever again, anyway.
For now, it was just you and him, and that was all he needed to worry about.
You passed by a couple of stores with him, but nothing really seemed to catch your eye. You would just walk around the sidewalk, look inside the window, and keep on walking. That’s all the two of you seemed to be doing for the last couple of hours. And you could tell Joel was starting to get sick of it by now.
“We ain’t gonna find the dress you’re lookin’ for. Why don’t we just get back to the house?” Joel complained, crossing his arms.
“Just a little longer.” You smiled at him.
You were also convinced that you would most likely not find a dress that you liked. You’ve given up by the fourth or fifth store you stopped by. But now, you wanted to spend more time alone with Joel. It was nothing more than an excuse to get him out of the house with you, to get him all to yourself.
Joel rolled his eyes and sighed with a shake of his head, “Just a couple more stores, alright?”
“Deal.” You’ll take what you can get.
He took your hand into his once more and groaned quietly, treading on to the next store.
You were lucky that he wanted to spend time with you as well, or he would have already been dragging your ass back to the truck to get out of town.
You lead him over to the next store you saw, enjoying the light breeze that blew through your hair as you walked hand in hand.
The weather was lovely, perfect for an afternoon stroll. It wasn’t too hot, nor was it too cold. You were able to wear a mid-length dress without feeling like you were shivering or sweating too much.
The sky was clear, revealing the beaming sun in a sky full of blue. The streets were clear, and traffic was nonexistent. It was peaceful. It was serene. And what made it even better was that Joel was walking right next to you, holding onto your hand with a firm grip, not wanting to let go of you.
“How about this one? Last store I’ll look at, swear,” you chuckled quietly and pulled Joel around a corner to take a closer look at a store you had your eye on.
Joel gave you a look, a look that you knew all too well. He was annoyed, but entertained. He knew that you were bluffing about this being the last store you would stop at, but he let you anyway.
You turned the corner with him, and out of the corner of your eye, you saw a familiar figure walking in your direction. Andrea.
Your eyes met hers instantly, and you noticed the way her gaze shot down to your hand that was locked in with Joel’s. She practically stopped in her tracks when she saw the closeness between you and Joel, completely caught off guard.
You weren’t even sure if Joel had noticed her standing there, but you didn’t care. Whatever feelings Joel may have had for her and vice versa, it didn’t matter anymore. It was now nothing more than a one-night fling. Whatever Andrea thought she had with Joel, she was mistaken. And it was now clear as day to her as she gawked over at you and Joel in shock, her eyes glued to your hands.
She had only met you once, and she thought that you were a sweet young girl. Never would she think that there would be anything romantic between the two of you. He was much older than you and had experienced much more life than you had. She never, ever would have guessed what was going on behind closed doors.
As Andrea stared at you, all you could do was smirk back. You were proud. You had finally gotten what you wanted all along. You had won, and Joel was your prize.
┉┉┉
The night comes quickly. Everyone in the house was fast asleep, with the exception of you and Joel, who were still wide awake.
You listened to the crickets play their string symphony as you sat on the dock, letting the breeze brush through your hair. You painted the water with your toes as you sat on the dock, watching the ripples in the water while listening to the gentle waves crash onto one another.
You took the time to reflect on all the events from the previous day. Even though you still needed to hide the way you felt towards everyone else, you didn’t need to hold back with Joel anymore, not when the two of you were in private.
It was still hard for you to believe. It felt surreal.
The silence was interrupted when you heard the screen door open. You looked over your shoulder to see Joel coming out of the house, still dressed in his flannel and denim jeans. His hair was messy, and his eyes were heavy as he made his way over to you.
“Can’t sleep?” He mumbled, sitting down on the edge of the dock with you.
You shook your head and leaned in closer to him, resting your head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arm around your waist to pull you into him. His touch was warm and comforting, something you never wanted to let go of.
“Me neither,” Joel whispered, placing a soft kiss on the top of your head, “Can’t stop thinkin’ about you.”
You blushed at his words and smirked a little. It would take some time to get used to him saying things like that so openly over the rest of the week. Butterflies swarmed your stomach any time he said anything like that.
“I had the best time with you today.” You whispered quietly in his ear, moving closer to him if even physically possible.
Joel hummed softly in response and squeezed your hip, keeping your presence close to him.
You didn’t bring up seeing Andrea. There wasn’t much of a need to, and you didn’t want to anyway. You weren’t sure if he had seen her as well or not. And you weren’t sure if she even still crosses his mind. Those were questions that you didn’t want the answers to. You didn’t need those answers. All that mattered was that you were with Joel, right here, right now. You were going to enjoy this forbidden time with him while it lasted. And clearly, he wanted to do the same.
You were enjoying the time alone here with Joel, wrapped up in his arms on this cool summer night. You could feel his shoulders lift up and fall with each breath he took, matching your breathing with his.
You caressed his shirt, slowly dragging your hand down to his belt. You could feel his breathing hitch when you cupped his cock through his jeans with a grin on your face.
Joel cleared his throat and looked down at you, “What’re you doin’?” He grumbled quietly.
“What do you think I’m doing?” The grin stayed put on your lips as you rubbed him through his jeans before moving away from him slightly to take off his belt. Your mouth was salivating, just thinking about tasting and licking him. You loved the feeling of him filling your mouth. What you loved even more was the sweet and salty taste of his cum as it shot down your throat.
Joel chuckled at your response and grinned before grabbing onto your hands before you got the chance to fully take off his belt.
Furrowing your eyebrows, you looked back up at him. Was he really stopping you from sucking him off?
Your eyes seemed to be asking the questions because Joel responded without you saying a word, “You already make me feel so good, sweetheart. Think I should make you feel good for a change, yeah?” His voice grew an octave lower as he whispered in your ear, pressing kisses from your ear lobe down to the sensitive crook of your neck.
You leaned your head back, giving him easier access to your neck while you closed your eyes. You could feel yourself getting wet just by the thought of him touching you. You had no doubt in your mind that you were already soaked by now.
As he kissed your neck, he rubbed your hips sensually, hooking his fingers into your shorts to take them off, which you happily helped him do so. You hummed as his fingertips tickled your bare skin as he pulled down your shorts, tossing them aside on the dock.
Joel lowered his kisses down to your thighs, kissing up to your sensitive and aching core. He nudged his nose over your clothed cunt, groaning as he felt the wetness pool in your thin panties.
“Fuck,” Joel groaned quietly, the vibrations of his voice against your pussy almost too much to handle. You whimpered quietly and lay down on the dock, spreading your legs out for him.
Joel held onto your legs gently, keeping them spread apart as he slowly and carefully slid down your panties, revealing your glistening pussy to him.
“So goddamn beautiful,” Joel mumbled and ran his nose against your folds, breathing in your beautiful scent that he couldn’t get enough of.
You hummed quietly and leaned your head back on the dock, looking up at the stars above you. You allowed yourself to relax, letting Joel take the reins and do as he pleased with you. After all, you were now his for the time being.
“Fucking gorgeous.” He mumbled against your clit, slowly licking through your wet folds while rubbing your inner thighs with both of his large hands.
Your legs tensed up at the sensation, and you only wanted to feel more of it. How could one man make you feel so good? You weren’t sure. But you knew you wanted nothing but more.
Joel smirked against your pussy as he continued to lick you slowly, lathering his tongue up with all of your delicious juices. This was the perfect way to end his night, with his favorite dessert.
Your eyes fluttered shut, letting yourself enjoy the sensation of him eating you out. His moustache and facial hair tickling the inside of your thighs only got you more turned on than you were before.
Joel could suffocate between your thighs and die a happy man.
He moaned softly at your taste as he worked his tongue around your folds. You let out a quiet squeal when he sucked down on your clit, and he loved having you squirm under his touch. It only made him want to do it again and again.
He grinned slightly and squeezed your thighs, his hands moving under your ass to pull you in closer to his face. Joel fondled your ass as he buried his nose into your pussy, wanting to taste as much of you as you could. One hand remained on your ass as he took the other and inserted one finger, and then two, easily into your cunt, your wetness acting as a natural lube for him.
You gasped quietly as his fingers curled inside of you, his tongue still working his magic at flicking your clit.
“Fuck, Joel.” You whimpered out, your breathing getting more ragged as you looked up at the stars, feeling as if your eyes could roll into the back of your head.
He hummed in satisfaction as he heard your whimpers and felt the twitches in your legs, knowing that he was the one who was causing you to feel this good. It was addictive. You were his addiction. You were always his addiction.
He continued to finger fuck you, quickening his pace as he lapped his tongue around your folds and your clit. You tasted so delicious, he couldn’t get enough. He sucked on your clit once more, enjoying the feeling of your legs twitching underneath his hand when he did so.
You felt yourself getting closer and closer to your release, your clit only getting more sensitive the more he continued on.
“I’m gonna come. Fuckkk Joel!” You mewled out and squeezed your eyes shut when your orgasm came crashing over you.
Joel groaned against your pussy as he continued to eat you out through your orgasm, licking and sucking all of your juices as your cunt clenched and throbbed around his two fingers.
Your chest heaved up and down as you recovered from your climax. Joel slowly pulled his fingers out of you before looking down at you, pressing his two fingers to your lips. You instantly opened your mouth and he stuck his fingers inside, keeping eye contact with you as you sucked your own juices off of his fingers.
“Thass’it….” Joel groaned and shook his head, almost as if in disbelief that this was his reality right now. He hummed softly and leaned down, his arms encaging you on either side before pressing a gentle kiss to your lips. You could still taste yourself against his lips as you kissed him back happily, feeling yourself more relaxed than ever.
Both of you were going to get the best night's sleep. That was for sure.

“I guess I just don’t see what the fuss is about then!” Harry raised his voice while sighing heavily, a hand running through his hair.
You rolled your eyes and scoffed. You couldn’t believe that you were having this argument with him right now. He shouldn’t be getting as upset with you as he is. It’s ridiculous, and you’ve already had enough.
It was an asshole move taking the only car and practically leaving you stranded with Sonya and Javier. But Harry didn’t see it that way. He could never take the blame for anything. Nothing was ever his fault.
It was something that was always an issue in your relationship with Harry. The fact that he couldn’t take accountability for anything pissed you off to no return.
But him not even taking the blame for leaving you without a car was the final straw. You had snapped.
You couldn’t be in a relationship with somebody if they never took accountability and everything was always your fault. It was driving you to the brink of madness.
Now him arguing with you and yelling was making you question why you would ever be with a man like him. He was childish. You shouldn’t be with someone who screams at you for his own damn mistakes. You’ve had enough. You could already feel yourself start to check out of this relationship.
“Seriously, Harry, think for a goddamn minute!” You raised your voice back, standing up for yourself, something that Harry wasn’t used to you doing, “You took the only car we had and left like it was nothing! You didn’t even think twice about it! You never fucking think!” You’ve had enough at this point. You weren’t thinking logically anymore as your emotions took over.
Harry scoffed. It was his turn to roll his eyes, “You’re being fucking dramatic.”
“Don’t talk to me like that.” He had no respect for you whatsoever. It made your blood boil.
“Then don’t accuse me of leaving you stranded! I had work to do, you know that!” There it was again; it was your fault. In his own little world, Harry could do no wrong. He was a perfect little angel.
“You left in such a rush you didn’t even think about the fact that you were ditching me! Your girlfriend? Don’t you realize how shitty that is?” You didn’t care if your neighbors heard your argument at this point. You were fuming. You wouldn’t be surprised if there was smoke blowing out of your ears.
It had been two years of this bullshit. Two years of Harry can do no wrong. You weren’t sure how much longer of this you could take.
“I had to get something done with work! Why can’t you understand that? Are you that fucking dense?! I have an actual job! Something you wouldn’t understand, little miss waitress!” He yelled.
You stepped away and closed your eyes, taking a moment to recollect yourself. You knew that if you didn’t, you would say or do something that you would regret later on.
“You know what? I’m going home. I’m done.” You started to collect your things, digging for your car keys out of your purse.
“Typical. You love to run away from your problems.” He glared, knowing that he had hit another nerve.
You gripped your car keys tightly, refusing to look at him for a moment, “I’ll see you later.” You refused to comment on what he had just said prior.
“That’s it?” Harry threw his hands up in the air, catching you by surprise. It was as if he wanted to argue with you, “You’re just gonna leave like the pussy you are?” He scoffed.
“Shut up.” You snarled, “You’re being completely unreasonable. You’re acting like a child.” You tried your best to keep calm and be the bigger person, but you were coming to the edge.
“I’m acting like a child?” Harry glared deeply into your soul, “If I’m such a fucking child, then why don’t you just dump me already?”
That was the moment you snapped. His words triggered you, and you had to physically bite down on your lip into a thin line, holding yourself back from saying anything snippy, “Goodnight, Harry.” You muttered before walking out the door and headed to your car that was parked in his driveway.
You heard him yelling something incoherent as you closed the door. You didn’t care about anything he had to say to you at this point. All you wanted was to go home and cool down, to get your mind off of Harry.
Taking a deep breath, you scooted into the front seat of your car and drove off in silence, having turned your radio off. Your mind was spiraling, giving you a headache.
At the end of the day, you knew that you loved Harry and that he loved you. But you didn’t know how much more of this with him you could take. You knew that you deserved to be treated better. You deserved to be with someone who could respect you and take damn accountability for their actions when they do something that upsets you. And that wasn’t Harry. You couldn’t change who he was as a person. You could try and try again, but he didn’t want to change his ways.
There were so many reasons why you loved him. But there were also so many reasons why you couldn’t stand him some days. You’ve thought about what your life could look like if you decided to part ways with Harry, but you never dared go far with it.
This time felt different. This wasn’t the first time you had an argument with Harry about how he never takes the blame for anything. It wasn’t the first, and you doubted it would be the last. Would things really be easier for you if you decided to end things?
Harry has helped you out with so much throughout these last couple of years that you would feel so lost without him by your side.
What you needed to do now was to just go home and take your mind off the situation the best you could. What you needed was some girl time with a couple of drinks and a night of venting.
┉┉┉
You immediately went over to the sofa the second you got home. Reaching over behind the couch arm, you grabbed your phone and dialed up Sonya’s number.
After your argument with Harry, you wanted to spend time with your best friend, the girl you knew you could count on no matter what.
You rested the phone between your ear and shoulder, waiting for Sonya to pick up.
Sitting up a little on the couch, you listened to the phone ring over and over again. You sighed, starting to get impatient by the fifth or sixth ring.
Looking over at the clock that hung on your living room wall, you checked the time to see that it was only around 8 o’clock. There was no way she would be sleeping by now. And you doubted that she was out partying somewhere, she would have asked you to come like she always did. Maybe she was with Javier, that could be a possibility.
You let out a heavy sigh when Sonya didn’t pick up and decided to try once more. You were in desperate need of her company, of anyone’s company, really. You rang up her number once more, refusing to spend the night alone.
You chewed on your lower lip, impatiently waiting for her to pick up your call.
“C’mon Sonya…” You mumbled quietly and tapped your foot, sighing out heavily in frustration when she didn’t answer yet again.
“Fuck.” You groaned in exasperation and leaned your head back, putting the phone down.
Even though Sonya was refusing to answer your calls, you knew that you couldn’t just sit around in your apartment for the rest of the night. You would drive yourself mad if you did that. You would just overthink and worry yourself sick about the argument with Harry. You needed Sonya to help get your mind off of him.
Thinking to yourself for a moment, trying to figure out what to do now, you found yourself looking over at your purse that sat on your small round dining table.
The other night, the same night when Harry ditched you and left you without a car, Javier had given you his number, which you had folded away into your purse. You haven’t taken it out, you had almost forgotten that it was there.
Your eyes were glued to your purse, debating with yourself whether or not you were going to make the move to call Javier.
You barely knew the guy. He might think that you’re being weird asking him to go out and keep you company so you can forget about your shitty boyfriend.
But you didn’t know what else you could do. You knew that sitting home alone and dwelling on Harry wasn’t going to help, and Sonya was your only friend besides Harry.
Knowing you pretty much had no other option, you dialed up his number and took a deep breath before putting it to your ear. You weren’t expecting him to answer, but it was worth a shot. At least you could say you tried.
Much to your surprise, you heard his voice after only a couple of rings.
“Hello?”
You felt yourself hesitating. You didn’t think that you would get this far.
“Javier, hey,” You couldn’t believe you were doing this, “Are you busy tonight?”
┉┉┉
It didn’t take much convincing to get Javier to go out with you for the night. You gave him a brief rundown of the situation over the phone, and he immediately agreed to keep you company for the night since Sonya was unavailable for whatever reason.
Surprisingly, to you, he didn’t have any questions when you mentioned that Sonya wasn’t picking up her phone. You would have expected him to ask, wondering if you knew what she was up to or where she was. But instead, he asked where you wanted to meet with him.
You decided to keep it simple and asked him to meet up at the Juicer's bar. It was a familiar environment, which was something you needed.
Tonight, you weren’t ordering any fancy cocktails. What you needed was a classic ice cold beer, just to cool yourself down after your heated argument with Harry.
Javier could tell you were worked up the second he saw you sitting down at a tabletop near the bar. Your hand was gripped around a beer bottle, taking a vigorous sip. Your leg was tapping anxiously on the footrest of the stool. You reminded him of a jack in the box, just ready to pop.
“Rough night?” Javier chuckled and took the seat across from you.
With a shrug, you scooted the second beer bottle you bought for him over to Javier, which he popped open and took a quick swig, “Guess you can say that...” you mumbled with your head in your hands and your elbow on the table.
“You look like shit.”
“Gee, thanks.” You huffed and took another sip from your bottle, rolling your eyes.
He was right in his bluntness. You were exhausted after your fight with Harry. You had already done your crying, causing your eyes to appear red and your cheeks to go puffy. You didn’t bother reapplying your makeup before meeting up with Javier. You just wanted to get out of your apartment, even if it did look like you just crawled out of bed.
You didn’t bother getting dolled up. It wasn’t like you were going out to try and impress anybody. It was just Javier.
“So, you and Harry broke up?” Javier questioned, trying to get the rundown of it all. You barely explained it to him over the phone, and what you managed to get out was pretty much nothing but nonsense to him.
“No.” You muttered, “Well, not yet at least.”
After this argument, you already knew that it was now a matter of when, not if, you left Harry. There was no way you could see yourself ever marrying or having children with a man like that.
It gutted you to know that you were going to have to end things, knowing it would hurt him. All throughout your life, you’ve avoided hurting people as much as you could. You were a people pleaser. You couldn’t deny that. You had trouble saying no, even when you should, and you always tiptoed around everyone else’s feelings just to keep them intact, even if it took a toll on you.
You did care for Harry, and you knew that he cared for you. But you couldn’t keep things going like this.
Javier raised an inquisitive eyebrow, waiting for you to continue on and explain yourself more.
You were a bit surprised by how willing he was to meet up with you and hear you rant and vent about your problems when Sonya wasn’t around. Although unexpected, you appreciated it greatly. He was proving himself to be a good guy for Sonya. He was passing with flying colors. So far.
You gave him the whole story, the words falling right out of your mouth. You weren’t even sure if anything you were saying was making the least bit of sense to him, but he was nodding and listening along, hearing out every word you had to say.
You vented, you complained, taking swigs of your beer in between sentences. It was a lot for you to get off your chest, but you needed to tell somebody, even if that somebody was Javier.
He was a good listener, you had to admit. He remained silent and kept his kind eyes on you the whole time. He wasn’t judgmental, he wasn’t taking sides, he was just listening. That was something you weren’t used to.
And you’ve spent your whole life thinking that men were practically incapable of that.
“So, now I don’t know what to do. I mean, I know I have to dump him. But I don’t want to be cruel.” You said honestly, playing around with your now empty beer bottle.
“Dump him, ain’t that much of a big deal.” Javier shrugged and sipped on his second beer of the night, already having finished the first one while he listened to you vent.
“I’m going to. I have to. But I’m not mean, I don’t want to hurt his feelings.” You argued gently.
“He hurt your feelings, didn’t he?”
“Well, yeah-“
“Then what's the problem?” Javier cut you off, his eyebrows furrowed.
You looked over your shoulder and let out a sigh. You had opened your mouth to retort something back, but nothing came to mind.
He was absolutely right. Harry was a dick to you tonight, and he didn’t deserve your kindness or your gentle touch.
He was an ass who refused to ever see your side of things, no matter how many times you’ve talked to him and he told you he would change, only for you to see no difference.
Why should you have to try to get around this nicely? Sure, he took up a whole two years of your life. And sure, there were times when he could be the sweetest man and the sort of man that you could envision yourself growing old with. But that was the thing. It was only sometimes that you ever felt like that. Even then, it was only a minority of the time.
You wanted to laugh at yourself for agreeing with Javier, the same man who was even more of a dick at the diner. It was weird to comprehend that it was the same person.
“Soon, I’ll do it soon.” You nodded, feeling an instant weight lift off your shoulders once you came to that final decision to leave Harry the next chance you got.
You couldn’t keep going on like this just because you wanted a relationship. You needed to do something for yourself. It wasn’t fair to keep beating a dead horse.
“Good.” Javier gave a firm nod and waved over at the bartender before pointing between both of your empty bottles, “Next rounds on me, don’t worry about it.”
“Well, aren’t you a gentleman?” You smirked with sarcasm lacing your voice. He was still an ass, but a gentleman-like ass. “Sonya’s a very lucky woman.” You grin cheekily, thanking the bartender when he slid the two bottles over to you.
Opening up his bottle with a loud ‘pop’, Javier took a sip while looking at you over his bottle, his dark brown eyes surprisingly softening, “Now, we’re having an open and honest night here tonight, wouldn’t you say?”
He set his bottle down next to him and folded his hands on the table, leaning in a little closer to you. You felt like you were in an interrogation. The only thing missing was a burning and blinding light shining down into your eyes.
“I certainly hope so after I just spilled my guts out to you about Harry.” You muttered, letting out a short, sarcastic chuckle.
Javier laughed along with you, and if you looked closely, you could have sworn you saw his cheeks grow rosy in color.
“Why what’s up? You planning on leaving Sonya, too?” You asked suspiciously, knowing you would have to beat his ass in this bar if that were the case. Well, at least try to beat his ass.
Javier shook his head and laughed, “What? God no, not at all. The opposite, actually.”
That sparked your attention. You were immediately curious to know more, “Yeah?” You pressed for more information.
“Before I tell you anything, I want you to remember that I already have a few drinks in me. Probably smart if you take everything I say with a grain of salt at this point.”
“I’m all ears.” You reassured, just waiting for him to start spilling his guts out to you already. It entertained you thinking that a man you originally thought of as such a dick could have actual emotions like this.
“Alright, look, I’m only gonna tell you this because you’re the closest person to Sonya I know. Okay?”
You bit down on the inside of your cheek to hold yourself back from rolling your eyes, “Got it. What is it? You’re not gonna propose to her after like two dates, right?”
Javier scoffed out a laugh and leaned back in his seat, an entertained grin plastered on his lips, “We’re not that close yet, cariño.” He chuckled.
He brushed off his hands as a sigh escaped his lips, sitting back up properly in his seat, “Sonya’s a great woman. Reminds me a lot of me.”
“Can’t tell if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.” You joked.
“Neither can I.” Javier laughed in agreement.
He took another sip of his beer before continuing on, “I’ve never really been the kind of guy to jump head first into a relationship. Only hookups, maybe twice in a row if they’re lucky.” He said with a smirk, making you cringe.
Okay, maybe he really was the asshole you once thought.
“Uh huh.” You crossed your arms, no longer impressed.
“But Sonya’s different.” He began.
“She’s different, as in you’d rather fuck her three times in a row instead of twice?” You raised a skeptical eyebrow.
“Actually, I was hoping to make things exclusive with her.” He admitted.
Now that was definitely something that took you by surprise. Sonya always struggled in relationships, and apparently, from what little he’s told you, so did Javier. The two of them definitely had their similarities. Although there was a feeling in your gut telling you otherwise, you thought that maybe things between the two of them would work out. They both had bad luck with relationships, but two negatives made a positive, right?
You wanted to be hopeful and not nitpick right away. Javier seemed like a good guy, and Sonya definitely had her moments.
“That’s sweet. I think you two will make a good match.” You told him honestly.
“Just gotta find the right moment.” Javier shrugged and took a swig of his beer.
“Well, I’m sure she’s going to say yes however you do it.” You nodded, offering him a small smile.
You already knew how much Sonya liked Javier. She had told you multiple times before, raving on and on about how fantastic he was. It was refreshing that Sonya could be in a relationship that would actually do her some good for once. Hopefully.
Despite your unfortunate bad first impression of Javier, things were slowly, but surely, starting to look up.
┉┉┉
You didn’t stay out too much longer with Javier. Both of you had work early in the morning, and once your eyes grew tired, you knew you were going to pass out on the car ride home if you didn’t leave soon.
Your time out with Javier was surprisingly pleasant. He definitely wasn’t your first choice, or even your second, but he definitely ranked higher in your books after tonight.
He’s a good ear to listen, a willing shoulder to cry on during a small rough patch during your life. Having an argument with Harry was the most frustrating part of your day for sure. But surprisingly enough, grabbing a couple of drinks with Javier was the highlight.
It was only around ten, but it was well past your bedtime considering that you had a shift bright and early the next day.
You yawned quietly and fished your keys out of your purse to unlock your car as you walked out of the bar. Javier had left a few minutes before you, since you wanted to sit and finish your drink. He insisted on staying until you were ready, but it was already getting late, and you didn't want him to wait on you. So, with a simple and gentle goodbye, he was gone for the night.
The night breeze was chilly yet comforting. It was clear, the lights of the city making the stars in the sky invisible.
Unlocking the door to your car, you caught a glimpse of the booming night club that stood right across the street.
You were familiar with the club, even though you’ve never even gone so far as to set foot in it before. It wasn’t your scene, but you knew of it well. Almost twice a week, Sonya would beg you to come join her to go clubbing for a night with her, but you never saw the appeal of it.
You would much rather stay at home with a hot cup of tea and a book than spend your Friday nights partying away with a random guy grinding his dick on you while loud music bursts your eardrums. Nothing about that sounded enticing.
And even on a night like tonight, the club was still roaring with people and upbeat music. Your car was right across from the club, and when you reached down to open up your car door, you caught something in the corner of your eye.
You furrowed your eyebrows and looked over at the glass windows that surrounded the building. It was dark, and the lights were flashing constantly, but you could have sworn you saw Sonya in there.
You took a step closer, trying to get a better look. And sure shit, there she was. It irked you that she was too busy being out at the club instead of calling you back when you had one of your biggest fights with Harry to date.
You were about to turn back around to your car when you noticed that Sonya wasn’t alone in there. Next to her stood a mullet haired man, gripping onto her hips tightly and pressing his lips to hers in a messy, tongue dominating kiss.
You rolled your eyes and looked away before getting into your car, a massive pang of guilt hitting the second you sat down.
Your mind immediately went back to Javier and the conversation you had just had with him. He was planning on making things exclusive with Sonya. He didn’t want to see anyone else, and he didn’t want her to see anyone else either. But here Sonya was, making out with some complete stranger that she most likely didn’t know the name of in some shitty sketchy club.
Javier had gone on and on about how much he liked Sonya over drinks. The second hand guilt hit you hard.
Javier had shown you another side of him tonight. He was sweet, caring, and a really damn good listener. He was just the kind of guy that Sonya needed in her life.
And you thought that she was just as serious about him as well. Clearly, Javier was thinking more about their future possible relationship than she ever was.
This wasn’t even your situation to begin with. Their relationship was none of your business. But Sonya was your best friend. She always turned her business into your business. And now, Javier was telling you that he wants to close things off with her.
There was no easy way around this situation. One way or another, someone was going to get hurt.
can he do that??? like is that allowed???? to stand there like that?? looking like that???? with his stupid fucking belt and jeans. feels fucking illegal

Old western country music played through the radio as Joel walked inside the restaurant with you by his side. It wasn’t the fanciest place, but it was the nicest one he could find in such a small town.
Just like he had promised, he wanted to take you out for a nice dinner. He had told you more than once, really reiterated it to you, that this was just a casual thank you for keeping him company while he picked up his truck. It also served as an apology for snapping at you earlier.
You scanned the restaurant out, purposefully staying as close to Joel as you could without him inching away.
It was pretty empty, considering that it was a random Tuesday evening in such a little town. Most of the residents around here were older retirees, probably getting themselves ready for bed by now.
“You look nice.” Joel looked down at you with a smile, effortlessly paying you a compliment.
After you got back from picking up his truck, you had changed into a simple pink sundress, one that you knew showed off your body well.
You purposefully wore something that would show off your body, wanting to watch Joel crack even more. Despite the countless lectures he has given you over the past couple of days, you still wanted to test the waters. You lived for those extra long stares that he gave you when you wore something a bit more revealing.
“Just the two of you tonight?” The hostess grinned over at you, grabbing a couple of menus from her host stand.
“Yup, just us two.” Joel nodded in confirmation, putting his thumbs in his front jean pockets.
“Perfect, follow me.” The hostess kept on her smile and led you over to a small booth, just perfect to fit the two of you.
You loved the sound of it being just ‘the two of you.’ It made it sound like you were on a real date with him. Sure, that was just a silly fantasy thought, but it was a nice thought to mess around and play with.
You sat down in the booth across from Joel, grabbing onto the menus the hostess handed out to you.
“Your waiter will be out shortly.” She maintained the customer service persona until walking off, leaving you and Joel be.
Joel grabbed one of the menus and began flipping through it, debating on what he was in the mood for to eat. Unlike you, he was focused on the actual dinner.
You did the same, but you struggled to focus on what the menu was offering when Joel was sitting right across from you.
Even though he was dressed down casually, he still looked so fine. His hair was brushed back, and the sleeves on his dark green flannel were rolled up. He seemed to have put genuine effort into his appearance. If this wasn’t supposed to be a date, then why would he care so much about what he looked like? Surely it wasn’t a coincidence.
“Thanks for dinner, Joel.” You thanked him sincerely, smiling at him over your menu.
“Don’t mention it.” He shrugged, throwing the same smile back at you.
You glanced down at his hands that were holding onto the menu, fighting the urge to reach out and intertwine your fingers together.
You couldn’t help it. Every time you were around Joel, you wanted to be closer to him. Your body craved his touch, even if that was just a simple brush of his hand. Your heart raced whenever you laid your eyes on him, mimicking the wings of a hummingbird.
“Any drinks for the two of you tonight?” A young man, presumably your waiter, asked with a beaming smile, holding a notepad and a pen.
“I’ll just take a glass of Jack Daniel’s, neat,” Joel ordered simply.
“Water is just fine.” You ordered after him.
The dark haired waiter grinned and slipped his notepad into his apron, “I’ll be right on those for ya.”
Once he walked off, you turned your attention back over to Joel. When you did so, he swiftly tore his eyes away from you, looking off over to his left instead. You furrowed your eyebrows when you noticed. His face was flushed when he looked away, acting as if he had been caught doing something he wasn’t supposed to. Not a second later, you grinned to yourself when you came to the realization why he had looked away from you so quickly the moment you looked back at him. He was staring down at your cleavage while you were busy watching the waiter leave. It was another perk of wearing that pink dress. A main reason why you picked that dress specifically to wear out tonight.
“Joel?” You smirked, intentionally and covertly pushing your breasts up in your bra to show off your cleavage even more.
Joel cleared his throat and turned his head to look back over at you, his eyes falling right down to the top of your breasts. He licked his lips and looked into your eyes, advertently avoiding looking down any further, “Yeah?”
“Nothing, you just seemed lost in thought.” You grinned and shrugged your shoulders. But you knew damn well what was on his mind.
He shot you a playful glare, opening his mouth to say something before getting interrupted by your waiter coming back with your drinks.
“There y'all are. I’m assuming you need some more time with the menu?” The waiter inquired, glancing between you and Joel while keeping his brilliant blue eyes on you for a second longer. He looked you up and down, giving you a sweet smile when he looked back into your eyes.
Sure, he was cute. Tall, short dark brown hair, blue eyes, baby face. But he wasn’t your type. The definition of your type was sitting right in front of you. Your type was Joel Miller to a tee.
“Yes,” Joel grunted, sipping his whiskey while glancing at the waiter, a colder tone in his voice.
“Alright then, I’ll be back in a few.” Before he left, he gave you one last smile, letting his gaze linger.
“He seems into you.” Joel pointed out immediately once he was gone, taking another sip of his whiskey.
You snorted out a laugh before shaking your head, “Eh, not really my type.” You shrugged, looking through dinner options on the menu.
Joel huffed when he heard you before shaking his head, closing his menu to put his full focus on you for a moment, “Why? Cause you’re into men more like me, I assume?” He scoffed quietly with a slight grin that he struggled to hide on his lips.
“Maybe.” You said with a teasing smile and a shrug of your shoulders, “Sounds like you’re a little jealous,” you taunted devilishly.
Joel ran a hand through his hair, and even though he played along for a little bit, his smile faded, and his look became more serious. Great.
“I ain’t jealous. I've told you numerous times, sweetheart. Whatever we might have had goin’ on is gonna stop from here on out, you hear?” He declared.
You had to stop yourself from rolling your eyes. You’ve heard this lecture again and again. Joel would say one thing, but his actions would say another. It was getting exhausting having him repeat the same thing over and over.
Joel sighed heavily and shook his head when you looked away from him, “Listen to me this time, kid. There…” he exhaled deeply once more and rubbed his face with his hand, rubbing his temples. He was getting worked up, something that he promised himself he wouldn’t do.
He took a second before continuing, “There might have been a time where I found myself catching feelings for ya. I stopped myself before it could get anywhere else. And this ain’t some kind of date, so don’t go ‘round thinkin’ that. Got it?” He scolded.
You just nodded and sipped your water.
You knew he was bullshitting. He was just saying that to make himself feel better. But you knew his weaknesses and what got Joel to crack. You knew him better than he knew himself. You could read him like a book.
“Got it.”
┉┉┉
The night continued to go smoothly. You were able to control yourself, and Joel was rather good company. You talked about school, work, and what your plans are after you graduate, all while eating your meal that was brought out nearly an hour and a half ago. Joel just made the time fly right by. You would blink, and ten minutes would pass. You never wanted the night to end.
You were in the middle of telling Joel a story from one of your friends' parties when you were interrupted by a woman calling out his name.
“Joel? What a great surprise to see you here!” A woman you didn’t recognize walked up to your table, much to your confusion.
You furrowed your eyebrows and looked over at Joel, expecting that he would have some answers to who this woman was and what she was doing here.
Joel looked up at the woman and smiled charmingly, holding out his hand to shake hers, “Andrea, wasn’t expecting to see you here. I’m just takin’ my friend's daughter out to dinner tonight as a thank you. She helped me grab my truck this mornin’. Ain’t that kind o’her?”
You stayed silent, taking glances between the woman and Joel. He seemed to know her quite well. It made your stomach churn.
It had to have been the woman he had met up with at the bar the other night. The one with whom he stayed out so late. The one who left love bites all over his neck and did god knows what else with. You didn’t like her already, despite the sweet smile she gave your way when Joel introduced you as ‘his friend's daughter’.
You hated that. It made you sound like a child, even though you were anything but, and Joel knew that.
“This is Andrea, the lady from the bar last night,” Joel explained, confirming that your assumption was correct.
“It’s nice to meet you,” Andrea smiled cheerfully, a cheesy smile as she reached her hand out to shake yours. You refused. Your hands remained in your lap while you kept your glare on her. She cleared her throat awkwardly and lowered her hand before looking back at Joel.
You kept your eyes on Andrea as you sipped on your water. You wanted to hate her and insult her so bad, but you couldn’t. She was beautiful, sweet, kind, and actually age appropriate for Joel. You hated it so much. You chewed on the inside of your cheek, just waiting for you to leave so you could continue your ‘not-a-date’ dinner date with Joel.
You bit down on your cheek even harder when she wrapped her arm around Joel’s shoulder, getting too close to him for your liking. Now, you weren’t really ever the jealous type. You weren’t going to yell at them or get mad at her. But it did make you want to puke as you watched them.
Joel stiffened slightly and adjusted himself in his seat when she wrapped her arm around him. You didn’t pull your eyes from either of them, watching as her hand trailed down to his chest.
“I had a really great time with you last night,” Andrea whispered to him, but not quietly enough for you to not hear every word.
You sipped on your ice water and sighed, looking anywhere but at them. You had to turn away. The sight of Andrea getting all touchy with him made you nauseous.
“Call me, alright?” She hummed and placed a gentle kiss on his cheek, leaving a red lipstick mark right in the center. She turned her attention back over to you and gave you that same old sweet smile, “It was nice meeting you again, dear. Enjoy your dinner.”
She gave Joel a gentle squeeze to his shoulder before walking off to her own table of friends.
“She seems nice.” You muttered sarcastically and pushed your food around on your plate before looking over at Joel.
Joel scoffed quietly when he heard you and wiped the lipstick stain off his cheek, “She is.” He responded simply with a shrug of his shoulders. Didn’t seem like he had much to say on that matter.
“You gonna call her?” You probed, hoping that you were going to get the answer you wanted to hear.
“Just drop it, alright?” Joel told you, looking at you through his whiskey glass as he took a sip.
“Are you gonna see her again?” You needed to know. Sure, he could argue that it was none of your business, but that didn’t mean that you weren’t curious about what his future plans with her could possibly look like.
Would he spend the rest of the week with her? Would he keep in contact with her outside of the lake house? Just as much as you didn’t want to know, you needed to hear him confirm or deny it. Preferably deny.
“Didn’t I just tell you to drop it?” Joel repeated himself with a stern look in his eyes as he stared at you.
You couldn’t help but smirk. You loved seeing Joel get so riled up because of you. You knew exactly which buttons of his to press.
Joel took the last swig of his whiskey with a quiet groan, feeling the smooth liquid warm up his throat before setting the glass down in front of him, his eyes boring on you, “Look. Just forget about her, alright? I’d rather focus on you and have a good time with you tonight.”
His words most definitely took you by surprise. It was the last thing you were expecting to hear from him, but you couldn’t deny that it made your heart race.
“Sounds like a date to me.” You chuckled with a smirk, watching him roll his eyes the second those words left your lips.
“Eat.” He ordered, shoving a couple of fries into his mouth.
The smirk remained on your lips as you watched him. He didn’t deny it.
┉┉┉
It’s later in the evening when you and Joel finally get back to the lake house. The two of you are laughing and sharing stories with one another, neither of you wanting the night to end.
Joel surprised himself by how much of a good time he was having with you. Even though you have known each other for years now, he didn’t actually take the time to get to know you before. He never felt the need to. But he was glad he did. If anything, he just wished that he had started years ago when the two of you first met back when you were 19.
Once you stepped back into the house, you reminded yourself to quiet down, since your dad and Joanna were most likely fast asleep.
You leaned against Joel slightly while slipping your hand into his as you took off your shoes. You were delightfully surprised when he didn’t pull away.
“Y’know, I actually had a good time with you tonight.” Joel smiled over at you, his words soft and genuine. He had actually taken himself by surprise when he found himself enjoying his time with you.
“I know, I’m great company.” You grinned, joking around with him while nudging his shoulder.
Joel rolled his eyes playfully and chuckled before looking at you, his gaze finding your own, “We should do this again sometime, just you and I.”
You gasped teasingly, “Is Joel Miller asking me out on another date?”
Joel lowered his eyes but didn’t wipe the smirk away from his lips, “You know damn well that this wasn’t a date.”
“If that’s what you’d like to believe.” You continued on with your playful banter.
Truthfully, you had a wonderful time with Joel, even if this wasn’t considered as a date. You liked to joke around and tease him from time to time, but even if this was really just him paying you back for picking up his truck, you genuinely enjoyed your time with him. There would be no hesitation if he asked you to join him again for dinner, just one on one.
Being alone in his company, sharing a meal together, talking and laughing the night away, was something you wanted to experience again and again, whether as a date or just as friends.
And Joel felt the same exact way. He knew that in the past, he had found himself starting to catch feelings for you before putting it to an abrupt stop. Even so, he couldn’t help the butterflies in his stomach and the nervous, excited jitters in his chest.
There were times throughout the night where he had to remind himself that this wasn’t some sort of date with you. It was difficult, but he was trying to stay true to his word. Whatever you two had going on was going to come to a complete stop.
But the way you looked at him with those sweet, innocent, yet teasing eyes, he couldn’t help the way his heart would leap in his chest.
It was a constant battle. He needed to stay away from you, but he would fall deeper into the trap each time he laid eyes on you. He had no clue what to do.
Avoiding you wasn’t an option. Joel didn’t want to avoid you. He longed to spend more time with you every second you were away. He would simply drive himself mad if he were to go that route.
But the more time he spent with you and around you, the more he longed for your touch. He wanted you in every way possible, which was driving him insane. He didn’t know what to do with himself.
Just by simply looking at you, he could feel the warmth in his heart grow and the blood in his cock swell. He craved you, much more than he should.
He even surprised himself when he found himself wanting to spend time with you instead of Andrea when she bumped into the two of you during dinner.
Joel had just brushed her off and sent her on her merry way when she was all up on him, rubbing his chest and trying to get as close to him as possible while still trying to keep things PG.
He wanted to spend the night with you, as friends, just like how he intended. Even Joel had to admit to himself that there were times where it felt more like a date than he wanted it to be.
The glances he would take down at your cleavage when you weren’t looking, or the way that he would look into your eyes and the color would sparkle in the light. There were countless times when he had to physically fight the urge to reach out and hold onto your hand.
It was a constant battle, but he knew he would happily go to war for you.
“We should probably get headin’ to bed. S’getting late.” He whispered.
But his actions didn’t match his words. While he directed that the two of you run off and go to bed, he stayed right where he was, his feet glued to the floor. His eyes were stuck on yours, not daring to look away.
“I’m not tired.” You defied with a shake of your head.
Joel looked down and chuckled, his hair falling into his face. You laughed quietly along with him, his laugh being contagious.
“‘Course you’re not. You just like doin’ the opposite of what I tell ya.” He raised his eyes up to look at you.
You shrugged, a smirk growing on your lips. He wasn’t wrong.
“I just don’t want the night to end.” You said honestly, tearing the glue off your feet and taking a step closer to him. Joel stayed put right where he was.
“Me neither, kiddo. Maybe we should plan this again sometime.” He suggested.
“Yeah, maybe.” You agreed, taking yet another step closer to him.
Joel didn’t take his eyes off you. He didn’t want to. What he wanted to do was to grab you by the hips and pull you in close. But he had to stay true to his word and not let this relationship go any further.
The two of you stared into each other's eyes for a moment too long, letting the rest of the world around you disappear. All that mattered right then and there was him. And to Joel, all that mattered was you.
Almost like a force was lifting up his arm, Joel reached over and gently caressed your cheek. The longer he stared into your eyes, the further logic drifted away from him. It was like you put him in a trance each and every time, and he always came back for more, no matter how much he tried to protest against it.
“What’s on your mind there, sweetheart?” Joel whispered, just loud enough for only the two of you to hear.
His thumb brushed your cheek as he took a step closer to you, neither of you breaking eye contact.
You noticed him glancing down at your lips before licking his own, quickly looking back into your eyes and hoping that you didn’t notice. But you caught on right away.
“Joel…” You whispered quietly, glancing from his lips to his eyes.
You swallowed hard, feeling your heart pounding in your chest. The tension was so thick that you could cut it with a knife. He never took his eyes away from you, only took a step forward to get lost in the depths of your irises.
He leaned forward, his forehead resting against your own. You could feel his breath hitting your cheek as he moved in closer, holding onto your hip tightly with one hand while the other was cupping your cheek, caressing it with his calloused thumb.
Joel was internally yelling at himself, telling him to pull away and stay true to his word, warning him that this was the worst position he could find himself in. He needed to step back before things progressed any further. But he remained still, gazing into your eyes as if you were the last two on earth. Nothing else mattered except for you and him.
His lips just barely brushed against yours, daring to close the gap between the two of you. But Joel’s eyes widened and he quickly stepped away from you when he heard someone fumbling around in the kitchen.
His heart was racing, and he looked down in embarrassment, completely ashamed about what he had almost done. If he knew what he was doing was so wrong, how come he always found his way back to you?
Not even a few seconds later, your father walked out of the kitchen with a glass of ice water in his hand and a smile, “Nice to see you two back. How was dinner?” He asked casually.
Joel immediately cleared his throat and stepped back from you, looking over at your dad with a weary smile, “It was good, nice little place.” He responded casually, running a hand through his hair.
It took you a second to get back into reality, trying not to dwell on the fact that Joel had almost kissed you. Your heart was still pounding and your cheeks were still flushed, thinking about how close his lips had gotten to yours.
“But I’m beat. See y’all in the morning,” Joel mumbled, refusing to look your father in the eye before walking off into his room without another word.
You watched as Joel disappeared into his room, your emotions still swirling in your chest. You heard your dad walk out of the kitchen and into his own room, but all you could do was stare at Joel’s door, wondering about what was going through his mind.
┉┉┉
You lie awake in your bed, staring up at the ceiling while listening to the crickets chirp outside. You weren’t sure what time it was, but you knew that it was late. Everybody was already fast asleep except for you, who couldn’t get a wink of sleep.
You were tossing and turning, wondering about what would have happened if your dad hadn’t walked in on you and Joel. Would he really have made that move and kissed you? Or would he come to his senses like he has before in the past and walk away, pretending that you never existed?
Your mind was racing, thinking about the possibilities. You couldn’t rest.
You reach over to the bedside table and grab your phone, turning it on to check the time. Two in the morning.
You set your phone back down and groaned quietly before hesitantly sitting up in your bed. You knew that sleep wasn’t going to come to you any time soon with your mind being so restless. You allowed your legs to control your movements as you walked out of your room, being careful not to wake Joanna in the process before making your way over to Joel’s door.
You knew that he was fast asleep, and you knew that there was a possibility that he would just kick you out without a second thought. But it would at least be worth a try.
Taking a deep breath, you quietly turned the doorknob and entered his room, silently closing the door behind you.
Just like you had expected, Joel was dead asleep in bed on his stomach with one leg up in a flamingo position. The covers only covered half of his body as if he had kicked them off during the middle of the night, and you could hear his light snores leaving his mouth.
He looked peaceful like this. A small smile curved onto your lips as you walked over to his bed, crawling under the covers to be next to him.
Joel groaned quietly as he stirred when he felt your weight in the bed, his eyes still closed while grumbling something incoherent, still half asleep. You lay down next to him and almost as if by instinct, Joel wrapped his strong arms around your waist and pulled you in close to his warm body, your back to his chest.
“G’night, darlin’,” Joel mumbled tiredly in your ear before pressing a kiss to the back of your head, pulling you in closer to his body with his nose nuzzling in your hair.
Not even a minute of being in his bed, your eyes grew heavy with sleep. Your racing thoughts seemed to magically vanish into thin air. Joel always seemed to have that effect on you. It was one of the reasons why he was so intoxicating and you could never get enough of him.
Joel could say whatever he wanted. He could tell you that you needed to stop this relationship as many times as he pleased. But you knew, and you believed that he knew as well, that you would always find each other back in your arms. Neither of you could stay away. He was a moth, and you were the flame. He struggled to resist getting closer and closer to you.
In a matter of minutes, you were fast asleep in Joel’s arms.

“That would be absolutely beautiful, it’ll be perfect.” The red haired woman beamed with joy as she looked down at your binder, her green eyes sparkling with excitement, “Don’t you think it’ll be perfect, dear?” With the utmost love and desire, she looked over at her husband, who nodded in agreement, wrapping his arm around her shoulder to bring her in closer to him.
Steven and Rosalie were your newest clients, your first ones since Joel and Jenna. You had to take a little personal break for yourself after that one, needing time to regroup mentally and get your own shit together before you put your complete focus into a new couple.
You were showing them the nearest wedding venues, helping them decide on the best option for them. They were a rather young couple, still madly in love and obsessed with one another. It was a marriage that you hoped would last a lifetime, the kind of marriage you wanted someday.
Although you’ve avoided getting back into work for some time now, you had to admit that it was a good distraction for you.
It has been over three weeks since you’ve last heard from Joel. You refused to be the first to contact him after giving him the ultimatum. If he were to choose you, he would be the one to make the phone call.
But ever since that night at the bar, he’s been MIA. Not a phone call, not a text, absolutely nothing.
It crushed you after the first few days. After about four days of your phone being completely silent, you had come to the conclusion that Joel had chosen Jenna over you.
You spent the rest of the week crying yourself to sleep, checking your phone obsessively to see if he left a phone call or even a text. But each time you checked, all of your messages would be empty, the only missed calls you ever received being from your mom.
You spent a long time sulking, imagining him doing to Jenna what he used to do to you. You were hopeful that there was a slight chance that he would pick you in the end. You hated that you allowed yourself to catch feelings for him like you did. But, you guessed that's just the way life goes sometimes.
You would picture what a life with Joel could have looked like if things worked out differently. If he wasn’t married, or he didn’t have to choose between you and his literal wife. It was a messy situation, you were no stranger to that. You knew you were getting involved in something complicated, but you dived head first anyway.
You knew one way or another, you would get hurt in the end, but you were too busy living in the moment to care. You missed Joel, but you couldn’t spend the rest of your life missing him. You needed to get back into your career and find a way to move forward, no matter how difficult that may be.
Joel was permanently out of your life. That was something you were going to have to adjust to. And while you worked on that, you were able to focus on your new clients.
Because, despite how much you missed Joel when the nighttime came around, he was gone.
┉┉┉
The week had gone by just as slowly as you were expecting. A day hasn’t gone by where Joel didn’t cross your mind, no matter how much you tried. Every time you closed your eyes to go to sleep, all you saw was his deep brown eyes staring into your own, wanting to make love to you all night long and rock you to sleep.
It was torture.
You decided to treat yourself to a little breakfast at one of your favorite local diners. You sipped on your coffee and took a bite of food as you flipped through your work binder. Blueberry pancakes, your favorite.
It was some well needed alone time after the last few stressful weeks.
You flipped through the binder, picking out some color schemes that you thought Steven and Rosalie might like.
It was nice working with a new couple. It was refreshing. They were very different from Joel and Jenna, which was a huge relief to you when you first started working with them.
You were in the middle of taking another bite of your breakfast before you heard a familiar voice calling your name right behind you.
Furrowing your eyebrows, you quickly looked over to see Joel standing behind you with his hand on the booth.
You almost choked on your pancakes when you saw him. It’s been nearly a month since you’ve seen him last, and you were sure that would have been the last time you ever saw him.
A wave of emotions flew through you when you laid eyes on him. You were happy, excited, joyful… but you were also hurt and confused. They were very contradictory, your emotions at war with one another.
“Joel?” The name came out of your mouth more nervously than you intended, your voice cracking just slightly.
“Can I sit?” He asked quietly, seeming rather nervous himself.
“Sure, seats open.” You nodded, knowing that whichever way this ended up going, you would be regretting it in the end.
Joel smiled gratefully before taking a seat in the booth across from you. You were still having trouble processing the fact that Joel was sitting here with you after you had already convinced yourself it was incredibly unlikely you’d ever see him again in your lifetime.
The waitress who previously served you came back up to the booth with a smile and a notepad, “Having a little breakfast date, huh?” She giggled quietly and smiled softly. Joel cleared his throat and stayed silent, only returning the smile, “Can I get you anything to drink? Something to eat?”
Joel glanced down at the menu that sat on the table and shrugged before closing it, looking down at your plate.
“Y’know, I’ll have the same thing she’s havin’.” He smiled politely and handed the menu back to the blonde waitress.
“Coffee and blueberry pancakes? Right on it.” She smiled and threw a friendly wink his way before walking off into the kitchen.
You ran a hand through your hair and sighed, your gaze staying on Joel. If he was ordering food, he was planning on staying here with you for more than just five minutes. You couldn’t help but worry.
You cleared your throat and gave Joel a small smile, “It’s been a while, how've you been?” You started the dreadful small talk.
In all honesty, you were completely unsure how you should even go about this conversation with Joel. This was a scenario that you never thought to plan ahead for.
“Been alright,” he shrugged, fiddling with his thumbs on the table that separated the two of you.
You sipped your coffee and raised your eyebrows slightly as you stared at him, pushing your work binder off to the side. While your affair may have been short lived, you still knew Joel well enough to know that he wasn’t telling you the truth.
“How about you? Been keeping busy with work?” He put on a smile, changing the subject to focus on you instead. He glanced over at your work binder before turning his attention back on you.
Tucking a piece of hair behind your ear, you nodded, “Yeah, just started back up again, actually, took a little break for myself.” You answered honestly.
You didn’t say any specific details, but by the concerned furrow of his brow and the creases in the corner of his squinted eyes, you could tell that he knew what you were referring to.
You licked your lips and sighed, cutting up a piece of pancake for yourself, “But it’s all good. I’m glad you’re happy with Jenna.”
“About that...” Joel began but was interrupted when the waitress came back with a hot pot of coffee and fresh blueberry pancakes in her hands.
Joel quickly looked over at her and gave her a warm smile, “Oh, thank you. Looks great.” He quickly thanked the waitress, watching her walk off.
You cleared your throat and took another bite of your pancakes, keeping your eyes on him, “I haven’t heard from you in a while.” You mumbled bluntly.
Joel sipped his black coffee and sighed before running a hand through his hair. He had, in fact, been avoiding calling or texting you at all. He was terrified of hurting anyone’s feelings, despite possibly having to hurt his own.
It was a difficult decision on his part, but it was a decision that he made.
Now, he didn’t expect to see you at the diner, but he was glad he ran into you. There was a lot that he needed to talk to you about. A part of him hoped that he would be able to avoid this conversation with you for as long as he could, but he knew that wouldn’t be fair to you. He was honest with himself, and now he needed to be honest with you.
“M’sorry. Sorry for not callin’ or textin’,” He started off with the apologies. You cut him off almost instantly.
“It’s fine. I’ve gotten over it.” You responded nonchalantly, taking a bite of your blueberry pancakes.
Those words crushed Joel. It was something you needed to get over, implying that it was something you were upset by. He had hurt you. It hurt him to know that he did.
Joel stared down at the pancakes on his plate and took a deep breath. He pushed them around with his fork before shaking his head, bringing his eyes back up to meet yours.
“I wanted to talk to you about it, I really did,” Joel whispered sincerely and frowned, the corners of his lips creasing downwards.
You licked your lips and sighed, grabbing onto his hands gently on top of the table, “I’ve already told you, Joel, it’s fine. I just want you to be happy.”
“But that’s the thing-”
“First few bites tasting okay?” The waitress always seemed to have perfect timing when it came to interrupting the two of you.
You cleared your throat and nodded, squeezing Joel’s hands before looking over at the young woman with a soft smile, “It’s wonderful, thank you.”
Joel nodded in agreement, but kept his eyes down on your intertwined hands.
With the same painted smile, the waitress walked off to her other tables, leaving you and Joel alone.
“What is it, Joel?” You asked, squeezing his hands while keeping your eyes on him intently.
The longer it took for him to say whatever it was that was on his mind, the more you found yourself worrying.
You refused to get your hopes up. You already knew that he wasn’t going to tell you something you wanted to hear.
Joel sipped on his coffee before letting out a heavy sigh, rubbing his eyes while shaking his head, “It’s nothin’.” He mumbled, shoving a few bites of pancakes into his mouth while trying to avoid eye contact with you.
You already knew that he was lying to you. It didn’t take a genius to tell.
“Joel. Tell me.” You commanded, your voice still soft and gentle.
Joel took a deep breath and hesitantly looked back up at you, squeezing your hands gently, “Can we just finish breakfast? Please?” His eyes were begging you.
You stared into the dark brown eyes that you had once fallen in love with before nodding slowly.
With a grateful smile, Joel caressed your hand with his thumb, “I want to talk to you. But somewhere more private, no interruptions, just you an’ I.”
You knew where Joel was coming from. This wasn’t going to be just some casual conversation that the two of you could have over breakfast. You nodded in understanding.
“You’re not busy tonight, are you?” He asked.
“I’m completely free. Whenever you need me, I’ll be there.”
You could practically see the relief in his eyes when you said that.
“Come to my place tonight. Jenna’s out all night workin’. There’s a lot I wanna talk to you about.” His voice was quiet and nervous. He sounded the way you felt.
“I’ll be there.”
┉┉┉
You spent the rest of the day worrying and overthinking every single scenario that could be going down with Joel. Even when you tried, you couldn’t relax. Your heart was always racing, and your palms were always sweating.
Your brain kept coming up with worst case scenarios, thinking about how terrible the rest of your night could possibly go.
Your anxiety didn’t seem to ease up, but instead got much worse when you got into your car to start driving over to Joel’s house.
Going to Joel’s was never a good idea. It never ended well for you. But you wouldn’t let yourself back out now.
While you assumed that Joel had made up his mind and chosen to stay with Jenna, maybe he was asking you to come over so he could tell you the opposite. But still, you reminded yourself that you shouldn’t get your hopes up.
You kept your walls up, not allowing them to crash down anytime soon. Hesitantly, you pulled up into Joel’s driveway and parked your car next to his truck.
His porch light was on, signaling his front door in the dark of the night. Grabbing onto your purse tightly with sweaty and shaky hands, you turned off your car and headed outside.
There was a slight chilly breeze, making you shiver under your thin coat. You just stepped onto Joel's front porch, and you were already eagerly awaiting until you could go back home and put an end to this once and for all.
You already knew he had picked Jenna over you. There was no way that he didn’t after avoiding you for all this time. Even though there were times you wanted to be hopeful and think that he may have chosen you, you knew that was never going to be the case. So whatever he wanted to talk to you about now, you were nearly positive that it was going to end in tears.
Folding your hand into a fist, you lifted up your arm and knocked quietly three times on his front door.
You bit your lip nervously and took a deep breath, desperately trying to calm your nerves before Joel came to the door.
It was only a minute or so later when Joel opened up the door. He looked just as much of a wreck as you did. His hair was disheveled, dark bags hung beneath his eyes, and he was dressed down in a plain white T-shirt and sweatpants. He looked exhausted. Seeing him like this only made your anxiety worse.
“Hi.” He muttered quietly, opening the door a bit more to allow you inside.
You tried to give him a small smile, your lips twitching as you did so before stepping past him to come inside. He helped you take your coat off, the feeling of his fingertips brushing your arm sending tingles down your spine.
It was clear to see that both of you were much more than just anxious. You were scared, worried, nervous, and everything in between.
“Can I pour you a glass of wine? I have an open bottle in the living room.” He tried to keep the smile on his lips, but was failing tremendously. He was too nervous.
“That sounds perfect, thanks.” You nodded.
A glass of wine was definitely something you were going to need in order to get through the rest of this night with Joel.
With a nod, Joel walked back into the living room, with you following suit, sitting down on the couch. Grunting quietly, he leaned forward towards the coffee table and grabbed the empty wine glass that was right next to the one that was half full, presumably Joel's.
You leaned back against the couch, watching Joel pour the red liquid into the glass before handing it over to you. Mumbling your thanks, you took a sip and sighed softly. You were already starting to feel more relaxed. But you weren’t putting your walls down quite yet.
“So, what’s up?” You cut straight to the chase.
You weren’t going to go through an hour of small talk when you knew there was something else that the two of you desperately needed to talk about. It was worrying you all damn day, and you weren’t going to be able to fully relax until you knew what was going on with Joel. You needed closure to feel any sort of comfort.
Joel cleared his throat after taking a sip of his wine, holding onto the stem of his wine glass tightly. His foot tapped on the floor anxiously before taking yet another sip, trying to get the courage to begin having this dreaded conversation with you.
You knew Joel well enough to tell that this wasn’t good, not at all. You were just waiting for him to rip the band-aid off and tell you already. You weren’t in any mood to beat around the bush.
Sipping on your wine, you looked at him intensely above your glass, impatiently waiting for him to start speaking.
Joel took another sip before setting it back down on the coffee table, rubbing his knees as he prepared himself for the conversation ahead.
“Right, I ain’t gonna stall this any longer. It’s gotta come out one way or another, right?” He shrugged, attempting and failing again with a smile.
You only nodded, holding your glass of wine while staring at him, ready for him to get a move on with it already.
Joel took a deep breath and ran a hand through his hair, “After that night, I had a lotta thinkin’ to do,” He began, his voice cracking just ever so slightly due to his growing nerves, “I made my mind up that night. I knew what I wanted, right?”
You nodded as you listened to him, your heart pounding in your chest. You didn’t want to hear about how much Jenna was the right pick for him and how he needed to choose her at the end of the day. You dreaded to hear him talk about how much he wanted Jenna. But at the same time, you were here to hear the whole story.
Joel licked his lips before continuing, “I wanted you. I still want you.” He said simply.
You furrowed your eyebrows, completely taken aback by what you had just heard. Did you even hear him correctly? He wanted you, he picked you to be with. But if that were the case, why haven’t you heard from him in the past month? If he picked you, you would have thought he would contact you as soon as possible. None of this was making sense. The pieces weren’t fitting together.
“Then why didn’t you call? Text? Anything?” A rush of relief flooded over you, hearing from him that he wanted you, he still wanted you. That was exactly what you wanted to hear. But it wasn’t adding up.
Joel reached over to grab his wine glass, filling it up a little more before taking a rather large sip. You frown more as you watched, your anxiety only growing.
He avoided your question, much to your dismay, continuing on with his explanation instead, “I sat Jenna down the next night. I spent the whole day tryin’ to break the news to her gently. I was goin’ to tell her I wanted a divorce, I was going to tell her everything.”
“You were?” You interrupted him.
Joel matched the frown on your lips as he nodded, “Yes, I was.”
“But you didn’t.” Your voice was full of hurt and confusion.
“No, I didn’t.” He confirmed.
You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, trying not to snap at him and let your emotions get the best of you. Why would he not tell Jenna how he felt when that was what he decided to do? The more he explained the story to you, the more confused you felt. None of it was making any sense.
Joel felt the urge to reach out and pull you into his arms, but he held himself back. He knew that you would most likely want nothing to do with him after he told you everything. Instead, he swallowed hard and took a deep breath.
“I sat her down to tell her. I was going to tell her every damn thing. I made up my mind to be with you, and that’s what I wanted. I’ve never felt this kind of connection with Jenna that I do with you. You were the one I was excited to see every day when I woke up, you were the one I wanted to be with, and I still do. I want you to know that.” You didn’t like this buildup, it was going to be followed by a but. It was always followed by a but.
“Then why didn’t you?” Tears threatened to prick your eyes as you stared at him, gripping your wine tightly. You needed to know the truth.
Joel took a deep breath and set down his glass. He needed to rip the band-aid off. He knew it would hurt you. And he was so hesitant to get it over with because he knew that these words were going to cause you to walk out of his life forever. He wouldn’t blame you, either.
“I sat her down. Before I could tell her anything, she wanted to tell me somethin’ first,” Joel's hands were shaking, matching the jittering heart in his chest. “She told me she was pregnant. She was over the moon excited. After that, I kept my mouth shut. I couldn’t tell her anythin’. I’m sorry.” His voice was small and weak while he spoke hastily.
You stared at him in disbelief, your heart falling into the pit of your stomach the moment he told you that Jenna was pregnant. You were falling in love with this man, and he was out here having a child with another woman.
“I don’t know what to do,” His voice cracked, desperation lacing his voice, “I care about Jenna and I want to be there for her, but I can’t love her the way I love you.” He shook his head.
You stayed silent while staring down at your lap. You had no words. You were sick to your stomach. You felt like you could throw up on the spot.
Joel stared at you before whispering your name, wanting you to say something, anything.
You could only shake your head as you stood up, setting your wine glass down. Joel was someone that you could see having a future with, and the idea of him spending that with someone else made you sick. You couldn’t take it anymore, you couldn’t look at him.
“Have a good night, Joel.” You mumbled brokenly and grabbed your coat, slipping on your shoes.
“Wait, please.” He said desperately, walking over to you. He wanted to grab onto your arm and pull you into him, wanting to apologize profusely and tell you that he was going to figure this out so the two of you could be happy together. He wanted to hear you say that everything would be okay.
But instead, he remained standing in front of you, not saying another word. He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t want to make promises that he knew he wouldn’t be able to keep.
Joel watched with tears burning his eyes as you walked out of his house. He stood there helplessly, watching you drive away.
You know you made it when you get some haters. The only pathetic thing and person is that anon taking the time to send you hate. Unbelievable people are still doing this.
