Bluebeard, a French folktale within Charles Perrault’s Tales of Mother Goose, was published in 1697. It’s about how a young woman marries an ugly old man with a blue beard for his money despite the man’s history of disappearing wives. When she moves into his castle, he gives her a key that unlocks every door inside, but forbids her from entering one room. When he departs, curiosity overcomes the girl and she unlocks the forbidden room, which contains the chopped up remains of Bluebeard’s previous wives. Horrified, she drops the key. In vain, she tries to wipe away the blood, but Bluebeard learns of her discovery when he sees the red stains. Just as he is about to cut off the girl’s head, her brothers storm the castle and kill Bluebeard.

I can’t remember how I came to know about this story, but it stuck with me. Don’t marry men for their money💰💰💰
