Lupiesoft started in 2013 on Blogger with the project Dizzy Hearts, which was the story of an adventurer (Seriva), who travels to a land of eternal night. Fundamentally it’s a fantasy story about love, and eroticism.
Why I chose to make it, my thought processes about it, have been something that has circulated in my mind since I was a young boy, growing up with extremely religious cult-like parents, who were intensely anti-LGBT in both physically and mentally abusive ways.
When we started Lupiesoft it was about love, and me trying to be a whole person who had not spent my childhood in poverty, in isolation, or living under someone else’s rule having to be someone I’m not. I’m a guy, but I don’t exactly fit any kind of gay/bi mold, I share equal attraction to both men and women at times, but I am mostly aromantic.
This isn’t an autobiography, and I don’t want to get too into depth with my childhood, but I feel I need to get things off my chest, and talk about things in a forum where you can hear my side of story, my feelings, about sex, and representation that you might have not heard before.
I say this cause I feel I’ve gotten this reputation that I’m cynical, that I’m only LGBT for usery reasons. It’s something that has been thrown at us, and me since we started. Our games are too male-gazey, to fetishy, and that somehow translates into us being impure and undeserving of love & solidarity with our peers. Our games appeal to people who both are directly LGBT, and the greater population that is generally pro-gay.
Lupiesoft is about love, but it’s also about how sex isn’t wrong, that porn isn’t wrong, that hardcore or softcore porn isn’t wrong (we’ve done both kinds), yet we have been told for years that what we are and do is not LGBT. This mindset imo erases the people who work with us for being the wrong kind of queer, the messy unmarketable kind. We make dickgirl porn, but it’s also more than that, it’s about making porn that isn’t skeevy, but still wholesome, and lewd, but also fluffy.
Lupiesoft is many things, but cynical is not one of them, we are open about what we do, and what we believe. Our games might lack polish, but we are a young studio, and many of the people who work with us are working in visual novels for the first time ever because we at the start were one of the few EVN studios that regularly hires queer & trans creators.
The reason we have gotten so much shit is because we are LGBT, either from religious extremist orgs trying to pull Mutiny!! off of Steam, or me and the queer people who work with us being treated as literal lepers from their peers because of the overt sexuality of our work. This is wrong, the way we treat each other is wrong.Â
I’ve spent my whole life struggling to find love & acceptance, and I learned that I had to make it on my own, I wanted to make a studio that did it’s best to pay people, despite how small we are. That tried to help those who were struggling mentally in this world we inherited. To keep our friends, and the people we work with off the street. We’ve been at this fight for 6 years now and we are not going anywhere soon.
At this point I don’t ask for solidarity, I say, I love all my fans. We’ve built a small but amazingly supportive community, if you want to be a part of that than you’ll see how much love we have, but we have no patience for people who will not respect us
