summary:
Baz overhears Simon and Penny working on Penny's eighth year spell. Determined not to let Baz steal Penny's spell, Simon hits Baz with a short term memory wiping charm, but Simon's magic being what it is... well, he does a bit more damage than he intended to.
And Baz is just grateful the Mage banned the internet at Watford.
the thing about Tangled is that this is a story geared towards little girls (even if it's "fun for the whole family," it's a disney princess movie, it's geared towards little girls), and it says, "here is a girl who is naive and doesn't know anything about the 'Real World' or how to navigate it safely and correctly. now pay close attention: the good guys are the ones who help her grow and explore new things while still respecting her own perspective and feelings, not making her feel stupid. the bad guys are the ones who tell her that she is too weak/immature/naive to do the things she wants to do, because she is fragile and needs protecting." and I watched this when I was nine years old and it resonated deep in a part of me that I couldn't articulate with words yet.
earlier today i was washing my hands at the sink, wondering if i even know how to love, what does it even mean to love someone, and how to love someone. i've been feeling like i don't even know what love is, and don't know how to bring it in a positive way to a friendship or relationship.
immediately i looked down at the soap bottle. on the back of the bottle, it had an illustration of two people standing in a flower garden, one person holding a flower out to the other. the caption said something along the lines of love and relationships being like a garden with no rules, with only shared empathy as the key ingredient to maintaining a loving connection.
i'm starting a new tag on my blog called toodley talks for all the times i want to submit you all to the horrible grimy trenches of my mind aka my thoughts :]
trying to concentrate on writing my cat and mouse longfic but getting tempted by the seductress that is writing an "agatha and penny go on an adventure" fanfic (with simon and baz in the background dw)
Remember the first time you read Carry On, and the whole first part while Baz is gone, itās mostly Simonās POV. And youāre reading all of he and Bazās past interactions from Simonās perspective. He broke Bazās nose. Baz pushed him down the stairs. Baz doesnāt want to shake his hand and tries to steal his girlfriend.
And then you finally get to Bazās perspective, and heās almost immediately like, Simon? Yes, heās dumb; yes, everything he said about us happened. But also, Iām hopelessly in love with him.
i met this insanely gorgeous guy recently. he helped me with a difficult task without me having to ask, asked me really sweet questions about myself, made eye contact and listened to my answers, expressed genuine interest, told me he was proud of me over a seemingly small accomplishment, and respected my boundaries and personal space the entire time.
i didn't ask him a single question and i basically talked about myself the whole time.
this all occurred within a brief 30-minute interaction, and naturally, i convinced myself i was in love with him purely because of how he helped, supported, and listened to me, rather than because of his personal qualities beyond service-oriented ones (and the fact that he was gorgeous.)
Here are some out-of-context crumbs of writing from my SnowBaz fanfic Cat and Mouse, from various scenes and POVs because part 3 is (sort of) rapidly approaching your location.
The fic is a multi-POV story, which means that these snippets could be from anyone's perspective, if you'd like to play a game of who's saying what and in what situation :)
WARNING BEFORE YOU KEEP READING!
There are potential spoilers underneath the cut. They're all mostly vague, but still, proceed with caution if you'd prefer zero spoilers!!!
Crumb #1:
My face warms. I feel as though Iām eavesdropping on the wrong conversation. On one of Keris and Trixieās infamous slumber parties and their overindulgence of Phillippa Staintonās parasocial (hallucinatory) relationship with her life-size cutout of Zayn Malik. When sheās trying not to gush about her crush on Simon in front of me, that is.
Crumb #2:
Simon turns his head so sharply I think he might snap his neck. āCan star signs tell you much about that?ā
āAbout what?ā I ask, and dear Merlin, do I already regret it.
āPersonality,ā he says. āMotives. Hidden sides of a personāsecrets.ā
āEight snakes, Simon. You make it sound like a criminal investigation.ā
Crumb #3:
Snow and his circus monkeys are sitting several tables down in the dining hall, repeating my name in increasingly feverish tones and with increasingly crude hand gestures. (In every variationāI counted several Bazās, a few Basilās, and one resoundingly exhausted Basilton from Bunce.) If theyād only said the name Basil, Iād have thought they were just passionately debating Italian herbs.
Crumb #4:
āNo way Iām going down there.āĀ
āNot afraid of the dark, are you?ā
āNot a fan of being down there with you.ā I narrow my eyes. āWhy even tag along? Donāt you have your coattails to press?ā Better yet, I wanted to snap at him, donāt you have my girlfriend to steal?
āItās disappointing to think what the world is coming to. Canāt two men share an intimate evening in the Catacombs without someone throwing a fuss?ā
