Just keep moving forward and don’t give a shit about what anybody thinks. Do what you have to do, for you.

I used to think that I could never lose anyone if I photographed them enough. In fact, my pictures show me how much I’ve lost.

A Day in a Life of a Beauty Queen
(Michaella Toni Longman) @intensediba
The butterfly city of Cavite, Dasmariñas, was not full of butterflies but evolved just like one, from a puny province to a booming city.
She was the face of this city. She has fair white skin, a pair of very long legs, and a pointy nose at first look you would think that she’s not from here, but when she speak, she speaks fluent Filipino and I can tell that she is a half blood. Michaella Toni Longman is a beauty queen.
She woke up early to prepare for the big event this afternoon. She washed her faced, took a bath, dried her hair, and brushed her teeth all of this before the sun comes out. After that she ate breakfast, washed the dishes and brushed her teeth again. She then organized her clothes to wear. Got her make up done, practiced her walk, smile and wave. She was ready.
It was the Paru-paro festival and participating on the parade is a must for her. You will see her smiling brightly and waving at countless people. But what I see is a tired young lady walking on heels on a rocky road under the blazing heat of the sun. All this struggle and she still keeps on smiling and waving because she knows that if she stopped she will be labeled lazy by the judging eyes of men and women, but what can you say? Whatever you do people will judge you one way or the other.
You will hear her fans shouting her name and cheering for her as she continued to greet them with an unwavering smile, but what I see is a beauty queen trying her best to cheer the people around her. I see her keeping her smile to bring happiness to others and a little wave to give them appreciation. Gratitude and affection is what drives her to move forward and she shares it to everyone.
I have realized that I had only seen one part of the coin as she smiles at me full of happiness and joy. Maybe yes, it was tiring, the people, the pressure, the expectations, the heat, and the parades but we should not take out from the account that she is enjoying this, because I can see in her eyes that this is her dream, this is what she wants.
Many people perceive beauty queens as the living artifact of beauty. They are all expecting that beauty queens are perfect, and must never make any mistake for it would tarnish their title. All that they know is beauty queens must be elegant, kind, always composed, courageous, confident, deliberate, intelligent, humble, honest, and loving. You won’t see the word H-A-P-P-Y there and here are what else they do not know; beauty queens could also be hurt, be sad, be tired, be afraid, be nervous, be shy, make mistakes, and they could also cry. Beauty queens are just human, and humans are perfectly imperfect, we should admire them for who they really are and judge them not by those manmade standards. For I believe that beauty cannot be measured by points and that every woman has their own inner beauty queen inside of them.

Arts have been one of my greatest weaknesses during my younger years here on Earth. Known for my poor penmanship shows that calligraphy is not for me, coloring books are the worst gift ever for my hand does not agree with what my head wants, crafts are the most tiring project in any art subject like all of those effort and still your work is not beautiful. Sewing and stitching is the worst subject ever.
All of this hatred are all in the past now, for I’ve learned to conquer my fears and turn this weakness into my own strength as I grow I tend to love art, studying how colors blend and with a great effort calligraphy is impossible no more, and now in my senior high school years we were tasked to create our own dresses. I was horrified for I am not friends with Mr. Needle and Mrs. Thread but with the my fairy own mother the outcome of my Carabao Feast themed National Costume was so awesome it shines, it even have horns on the side that lights up with blue and red bulbs inside which made me look so bad ass. I cannot imagine myself being able to produce something so unique and beautiful and with that being said I got as perfect score thanks to my generous contemporary arts teacher.
It was wonderful studying contemporary arts for I enjoyed the voyage with my clique as we set sail to the narrow sea of new things that I haven’t seen before, quilling is one, ambahan is two. It was great Sir, thank you for being our mentor as master of art.
