"I think they want to keep him around personally for similar reasons to why they tolerate me - in that they want to study weirdos like us - but being here is certainly a lot better than that shabby old cabin. They even managed to convince the Squidbeaks to agree, though...this certainly means that lot will be coming by...very often..."

"Yes - in fact - that is how my Professor came about my name! He told me he was clumsy one day while developing me and got some tartar sauce into the mix. Sometimes it's hard to tell if he was joking or not, but it seems like something he'd probably do."

"Now I do wonder if the same thing happened to give Sriracha his name as well..."

"I'd certainly say they got a high speechcraft skill along with that fancy casing of theirs - both of which I am a little envious of - but I still don't trust them one bit. Lack of trust is synonymous with any Tartar unit after all..."

"About that... It's that Rusty was constructed the same way I originally was...or at least similiar to how I was. Professor had a VERY unique way of creating AIs, clearly. Although...his biological components differ slightly from mine. A different recipe, perhaps?"

(Also, thanks for supporting my blog and continuing to do so, Eta. I'm hoping I can get into doing more for interesting things with Beta's verse eventually. He's still got a lot to do as a character, but some casual interactions during Beta's recovery are welcomed in the meantime.)

Going to try bringing this blog back if anyone's still interested.

I know I haven't been active here for over half a year, but depression had hit me hard as well as writer's block, and I should have mentioned this sooner, but I even had trouble just finding the right words for explaining it. My life at home just puts me through a lot mentally, and it really affected my ability to stay calm and focused to even discuss anything properly. But honestly, I'm tired of that depression taking away my interest in creative outlets, so I'm going to try to continue in spite of it.

I'm very sorry for anyone who might've been concerned for the sudden drop-off in activity, but I do want to get back into this verse one way or another (cause it isn't dead or anything yet), but I may have to do a skip from the current scenario so Beta's gonna get better soon - and the current ghost arc will still be canon despite this skip.

Here's to hoping I can resume having fun with this verse and even if the activity isn't on a daily basis, feel free to interact with this or any of my Splatoon blogs. And also, big thanks to the friends and followers who have supported me along the way even outside of the Splatoon fandom. I don't know where I'd be without you.

Resonant Frequency [part 3]

"I wish I knew more about the mollusks and their technology to help you, Beta..." Rusty lamented, now looking back to Beta.

Watching his sibling's current visage on infrared start to fade in and out now, Rusty's concerns suddenly shifted to a new focus: Beta's ghostly form. Something felt like his sibling's time in that ghostly form was running short. If a ghost is fading, then won't that mean they'll disappear forever? He only had movies he watched with his Professor to go off of, but that was a possibility Rusty did not want to happen. If he stuck around, his sibling might be gone for good. Rusty's time to act on his wishes should be now, especially with Beta on the line!

"Beta..." he muttered as he looked at his sibling, "...Please don't fade away. I...can help you."

Rusty stopped after those words and sat still, a metallic rattling noise soon coming from within him now, as something began to nudge open his face plate from the inside, which caught Beta's attention immediately. The odd gurgling sounds that accompanied it growing ever more consistent as some kind of liquid, orange in color, began leaking out from the side of Rusty's unhinging cover.

Something about the familiar nature of it all left Beta feeling more curious than uncomfortable, as the orange substance collected into a pile of ooze on the ground beneath Rusty's phone-like frame, which promptly slithered over to Beta, seemingly having a mind of it's own.

"Rusty?" Beta muttered as the ooze stopped in front of him, stretching upward slightly, as if to look at him. Garbling incomprehensibly, the ooze then crawled off, disappearing from sight behind the cabin, and leaving Beta alone to continue thinking about what had just transpired.

Resonant Frequency [part 2]

Respawn points, huh? Rusty wondered how exactly they work, only ever witnessing them through sporting programs broadcasted on television. Such a unique type of technology - and utilized by evolved mollusks? This subject was begging to be analyzed.

For the longest time, there had been something deep down in Rusty's programming that was always urging him to get out and see this new era for himself. It seemed so full of a delightful uncertainty he wished to explore. The world, Earth, now being inherited by advanced sea creatures who had reached humanity's level of intellect, built upon the rubble of his very creator's long gone peers. Something about it felt...renewed and particularly colorful. Why couldn't he just partake in it like the rest?

The issue was simply a matter of fitting in, despite the diversity that awaited Rusty. The sea creatures were a rainbow, and yet, something about himself felt more akin to a gray. Damaged though his current phone casing was, he had been reluctant to evacuate it, and it was because of that specific reason. Instead, Rusty had been relying on the flow of others around him to help define his true color, as he stayed within a cover that wasn't even his own. However, he didn't want to keep holding back like this. Leaving the comfort of this metal container would prove to let him make his choices unhindered, but in doing so, he'd be vulnerable. Would the sea creatures even accept it if they saw what he truly was?

"Professor, I feel lost..." He mumbled quietly to himself, just out of audible range from his sibling, Beta. What would Professor Colin do in a situation like this? He didn't know. Still though, there was that bit of programming that was persisting. Should he allow it to run anyways?
