Small improvements create big changes.

Today, the Taskdudes team introduced shift assignments + employee self-service to our talent acquisition & workforce management platform.

Instead of calling managers, employees can now respond to assigned shifts directly from the application.

It's a simple feature but one that removes friction for both employees and managers.

We're building this platform in public because great products aren't created overnight. They're built feature by feature, with constant learning and improvement.

Day 18 of building our Workforce Management SaaS at Taskdudes.

Today’s feature: a shift matching engine that intelligently assigns employees to shifts based on availability, skills, workload balance, and scheduling conflicts.

One thing we care about while building this product is solving practical business problems instead of adding unnecessary complexity.

This project is being built collaboratively by our team in public over 45 days, sharing progress, wins, mistakes, and product decisions along the way.

Today the Taskdudes team worked on something that most users will never notice directly, but it’s one of the most important parts of the platform.

We built a shift state machine for our workforce management SaaS.

Instead of allowing shifts to move randomly between states, we created a structured workflow:

Draft → Published → Started → Completed

We also added rules around cancellations, editing restrictions, and bulk shift scheduling.

These kinds of backend systems are what make products stable as they grow.

Building software isn’t only about UI screens. A lot of the real work happens in architecture decisions like this.

Today was all about architecture and scalability.

skill inheritance

workflow states

scalable indexing

A lot of SaaS products look polished on the surface but struggle underneath because the foundations weren’t designed properly.

We’re trying to build differently: real systems, real workflows, real operational thinking.

And importantly, this is a collaborative build. Designers, developers, planners, and testers are all contributing to the product together.

Still a long way to go, but the product is getting stronger every day.

Today our team at Taskdudes worked on something that sounds simple… but becomes a huge problem at scale:

Scheduling people efficiently.

Most businesses still deal with spreadsheets, manual calls, last-minute changes, and constant confusion around employee availability.

So we built an availability module that allows the following: ✔ Weekly availability setup ✔ Preferred and unavailable hours ✔ Holiday/sick-day exceptions ✔ Real-time availability validation ✔ Smart employee matching for shifts

This project isn’t being built by one person behind a screen.

Today was all about backend stability.

set up CI pipeline (finally automated testing 🙌) added joi validation so config errors don’t slip through swagger docs running at /api/docs exported postman collection cleaned up README

not exciting visually, but this is what makes the system solid.

Day 4 of building our SaaS.

Instead of rushing features, we focused on something most people ignore: early security.

We implemented a 3-layer system: – Request-level tenant isolation – Query-level enforcement – Database-level protection (RLS)

The idea is simple: Even if one layer breaks, the system shouldn’t leak data.

We’re documenting everything as we build. No shortcuts, no “we’ll fix it later.”
