You can keep as quiet as you like, but one of these days somebody is going to find you.

Hey guys! Since it’s close to end of the fall semester, and I have to write two papers by the end of the month, I decided to share my tips for writing research papers. This is all based on my own experiences, so if some tips are not what you would do when writing your own paper, that is perfectly okay. This is just what I’ve done from past experience and it works for me, so maybe it can work for you too!
1. Start research two weeks to a month in advance.
I always gather my resources about a month before the. With other homework that will eventually be due and my terrible habit of procrastination, I’ve found it’s easier to gather what you need for your paper ahead of time. It’s better to plan ahead than to feel frustrated with little time left. If you give yourself the space to concentrate and find what you need, it will help you write your paper and relax later.
2. Open a document on your computer for the paper in advance and set up the basic format (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc…).
I find it’s easier to get into the paper when I’ve already done the structuring ahead of time. That means creating the header, adding the sources I’ve cited, and all the decoration. When you’ve gathered your research, you want to jot down some ideas for the paper, or you find something that sparks your motivation to write a few sentences, it’s better to build the skeleton of the paper before than during.
3. Create a rough outline of your paper, and add to it later.
This outline does not need to be perfect. I am talking as bare as bones can be. That is what your outline should look like. If you want to throw in a few ideas you have for the structure, go ahead! This is just the first brain dump. What you put in your outline should be what you want to dig deeper into later when you’re skimming the research you’ve found.
3. Print out your sources and annotate them.
You may not have a printer at home, but you should definitely print out your resources and annotate. Sometimes, PDF applications can quit or stop working, so I’ve come to realize going in with a highlighter and a pen is the best way to go. Personally, I go into the print settings and put two pages on the front and back side of a single sheet to save space and ink.
4. Make a highlight and/or annotation key.
This is important if you made your outline. The categories and ideas you’ve come up with for your topic should be what you’re searching for and annotating in your sources. Making a key of what should be highlighted for a specific idea in your paper helps to save time when making your paragraphs. It helps me from having to skim my highlights to see which sentences belong to which ideas.
5. Combine information from your annotations and highlights according to your outline.
You can combine the information in any format you choose, as long as it’s organized in the way that makes it easer for you to write the paper. If you want to organize by paragraph or by source, do that. Taking notes while you’re skimming your sources can help too! I open a different document and put in my own words the research I’ve found, according to the outlined topics, ideas, or categories.
6. Know you can do it.
Research papers can give anyone anxiety, and it is very stressful when you wanna write to the best of your ability. The late nights of trying to fill your teacher’s requirements and the worry you won’t get that good grade will always be there. But believe me when I say, if you put effort into your product and have faith in yourself and what you’re producing, it will show. So don’t worry too much! You got this, and you’re going to write a kickass paper.
And there you go! I hope the tips I gave help you with your research paper, and I know you’ll do great regardless of what you might be thinking. Go and write that paper!

Things you don’t have to apologize for
the way you feel about something
not wanting to do something that makes uncomfortable
saying sorry too much
not wearing makeup/being dressed up/doing your hair
caring about something
not being happy

There are 168 hours in a week and we have a problem spending more than 5 minutes on every salah
To-do list for the incoming semester Hi friends! I know most of us are going back to school this week *cries*, and we might need that extra push to get through this, so here are a few things we could keep in mind:
Forgive yourself. Failed a couple of tests? Watched a whole season of your favorite TV show over the weekend instead of getting started on your research paper? (yes) Found your grades drifting into uncharted waters? No matter what happened last semester, forgive yourself. Make it your armor and remember that you have a clean slate in front of you. You get to start over. Take that chance and do things right this time. 💪
Set realistic goals. And every time you accomplish them, treat yourself. Go ahead. You deserve it.
Show up. I know it’s inevitable to have those “meh” days, when you’re physically present but mentally absent in class. Drink some coffee, eat something or listen to music before coming to class to boost your energy. It feels good to learn something new everyday, so make the effort to get even just a little something out of those long class hours. It’s worth it.
Work hard. Do things that have meaning and remind yourself of your dreams and aspirations. You got this!
Take care of yourself. During finals week last semester, my mantra was “pain is temporary, GPA is forever”. This pushed me to go through three full days without sleep, studying endlessly and not giving my mind and body the rest they deserved. It took me a fever, colds, a sore throat and recurring anxiety attacks to realize that that was pretty much their many ways of saying, “Fuck you. You take care of your grades more than yourself.” Shake off those bad habits and make sure you invest time on yourself. Don’t wait for your body to send you spiraling into a dark abyss before you take action.
At any given time, the urge to sing “the lion sleeps tonight” is just a whim away, a whim away, a whim away, a whim away
Oh Lord, when my bones are lying beneath the soil, and I am long forgotten, grant me those who will make du'ā for me always, tirelessly.
Allāhumma Amīn.
Since I consider myself a big sis to all of you, I have made a small list of academic and misc. tips to make college/university not suck as bad.
Academic
If you get distracted in large lecture halls, sit in the front row. I discovered in large classes that I was sometimes more focused on the girl in front of me being on facebook, than I was on the actual lecture. Sitting in the front is always a good idea. It is honestly the easiest tip I have for you.
RECORD YOUR LECTURES! How ever you decide to take notes, you can also record your lectures. I use notability to take notes and to record my lectures with. When reviewing before an exam, recordings are a lifesaver. Also just reviewing after class, it deff helps to clear up anything that was slightly unclear in your notes.
Dress comfy for class. Literally no one care what you wear to class. Don’t feel like you haaaave to look cute, I understand wanting to look good to feel good for yourself but sometimes nike shorts are gonna be your best option.
Book group study rooms in the library. If your libraries on campus are anything like mine, they’re always packed. BUUUUUT it is very likely that your library has a way to reserve library rooms, thus guaranteeing you a silent study place on campus. Book ahead for finals week!!
GOOGLE DOCS. Once you make a good study group, condense all of your notes together on a google doc shared between you all. Google docs and slides are also amazing for group projects and presentations. Become familiar with both, they are your new best friends.
Misc.
Starbucks has a loyalty program, get on it. I worked as a barista and literally the gold card program starbucks has will safe you a ton. There are literally 10 Starbucks on my campus, you will become familiar with yours. Download the app and start collecting points now! Also a pro-tip, skip the lattes and frappuccinos. Drip coffee is the best option for you, it is cheaper, better for you, and has the most caffeine besides the iced coffee. Also, once you’re a loyalty member at starbucks, refills on all coffee and tea is FREE.
Keep snacks in your bag, it’s not rocket science. You get hungry, eat. The more protein, the better.
Easy way to talk to someone in class. Pull out a pack of gum. Has not changed from high school. Having “class friends” is needed. They’re great for getting notes from if you miss class and for getting together to study with!
