He smirked as he watched the kids playing without a single care in the world. Did his children have the same luxury growing up or were they left to their own devices? The thoughts of what happened to his children plagued him to no end but he had to push it aside - they were seemingly long gone by now and it was a reality he needed to face. "Kinda cute if you ask me," he said, nodding to the toddler trying to win a prize
"who said anything about fun?" grace practically huffs in response. she can't entirely place what it is about the other that makes her feel strangely uneasy, but there's a vibe there - a gut feeling of wariness. "are you having fun? there's popcorn." she mock gasps in surprise, chuckling.
"Seeing as I've never had popcorn before today I am having fun," he said with a shrug. "Look if you want to be miserable go ahead but don't bring others down with you. You're young and have the whole world ahead of you - try to think of positives"
"that's a pleasant surprise." elspie and nimah had been mistaken for each other as children, but nora had been lumped in with the general mccullough gaggle before as well. for as much as nora loved her sisters ( and it really was a great deal ) it was also nice to have some autonomy. "you mean the carnival?" she asked. "it's just a little town tradition. they come every year. have you never been before?"
"Nope, this is my first one," he said, having had fairs back when he was human but nothing to this extent. A part of him wished he could've seen this when it was happening but he was still here and he was going to live it up as much as he could before something bad happened to him. "Kind of nice though, loud but nice"
one thing was becoming increasingly clear: it was a good thing to have allies. lettie had been new to the world of vampire politics when forced into the tomb. the early days had been tense as the ragtag group had tried to plan, plot and strategize a way out. when it had become clear there was no way to escape, the responses to being trapped had varied. eventually, quiet had blanketed the space as they drifted off into desiccation one by one. in the those agonizing days, lettie had really only connected with two people: yuka ( her creator, her savior ) and andrew. andrew's affiliation with oisín— while understandable— was less than ideal, of course. oisín and his violent ideations kept lettie on edge. she understood their situation was unfair, but something about him pushed against everything she felt was right.
taking the puffy, bright pink mass from andrew, lettie's arched a brow. "and what is this? i thought you said it was somethin' we could eat." being out in a public place felt risky after the town had just slaughtered some of their fellow entombed vampires. that being said, they needed to go outside when they could. staying inside after almost two years trapped felt too claustrophobic.
He chuckled as he watched her take it from him, "it's actually edible - they call it cotton candy," he explained with a kind smile. It was nice, to see her almost relaxing and having a good time. And he knew that she was probably walking on eggshells due to her lack of control but he wanted to try to be there for her. He had been a vampire for nearly a year before being stuck in the tomb so he had built up slight control - though it was still a work in progress even now. "You know you aren't going to be alone, right?" he said as he walked next to her, "it's okay, we aren't back in the tomb"

He had seen her around Oisin and he felt it was only right to give her warning. He had a feeling she was smart enough to know but he, having that weird fatherly instinct, felt it was only right to double check on her. Walking up to her, he leaned against the wall and sighed, "it's definitely interesting this city" he nodded, turning to her, "you live here long?"
are you scared right now
"Scared isn't really the word for it, more like nervous and unsure"
what is your most precious memory ?
"Each of my children's births, if I could go back I would gladly be a father again"
@vampbound - oisin
His dismay for Oisin was very much evident to others but he hid it around Oisin himself, too nervous to actually do anything about it - which he hated, for the record. Oisin was older than him and more powerful and even Andrew knew that he couldn't take him on. So when he saw Oisin nearing him, he simply sighed as he took out a cigarette. "Let me guess," he started, lighting the cigarette, "you want something"
@entombedvamp
Being a relatively new vampire when he was forced into the tomb with the others it was hard to find someone to relate to but he found it in Lottie and, in a way, he found himself wanting to protect her. And as they were forced there, desiccating over time, he made sure she was safe in any way he could. So, finally tasting the sweet taste of freedom, he kept his one sided promise and kept near her as much as he could. "There you were," he said as he walked up to her, a thing of cotton candy in his hand, "here," he said as he extended it out to her. "Thought you'd want some"
why do you think you were turned?
"I've thought about it and I don't know... I thought I was a fairly decent person before being turned so your guess is as good as mine"
The dead were always loud, but it was worse in a public setting. so many people gathered with spirits attached to them like puppets on a string. Ghosts were exhausting because no one ever left this plane with their life tied up in a neat little bow. That's the thing about dying--no one's ever ready. They always have something dire left to be said or done, and as soon as they knew she could see them, they chained themselves to her like anchors to an unfit life raft. It felt like drowning, except it wasn't water she was choking on, it was a tsunami of everyone else's grief. It had been stupid to come, but she was trying not to be a hermit. So much for that, since she was already off at the edge of the lot where it was more quiet. She could hear the games and rides playing over the distant crowd as she dug through her purse, looking for a lighter to smoke her joint. Someone struck the bell on the strength game really hard with the hammer and all the lights went off, blasting celebratory music. Isa angled her purse into the momentary brightness to confirm what she already knew.
"shit." she muttered. Isa looked around, scanning the few people nearest to see if any of them looked like they might actually smoke. It was a long shot since most people vaped now. Isa hesitated as she spotted someone but ultimately took a step forward. "Hey--you wouldn't happen to have a lighter I could borrow, would you?" If not, maybe there was one she could buy around here. Hell, maybe this was her cue to leave and go home.
He knew he had the dead of those he killed after first being turned that followed him - whether it be literally or just in his dreams - but the guilt of his crimes weighed on him. Did he serve a decent sentence in the cave? Did he repent for his sins enough? He was unsure of if he'd ever but he also couldn't act like the good guy when he was being used by one of the worst people he had ever known - Oisin.
And his nasty habit of smoking had followed him through vampirism, him having picked it up the second he had left that damn tomb. Standing against a wall, he watched the other walk up to her and, with a small chuckle, handed her the vintage lighter that had been with him when he had been entombed. "Make sure to not steal that, it's important to me"
"i think you may be thinking about one of my sisters— not me. it's an easy mistake to make. there's quite literally four of us."
"Yeah I don't know any of you so I wasn't looking for anyone in particular," he said, feeling a bit iffy about witches - knowing they could come across as sickeningly sweet while ripping your heart out. "What is this place though for? Like the fair thing?"
grace wasn't quite sure what to make of the carnival. sure, it came to the town every year or so but this time things were different. animal attacks, strange people wandering around - there was always something new and creepy going on. she has her arms folded across her chest as she stares up at the ferris wheel in an almost grumpy manner.
After being in the dark for so long it was hard for him to socialize like a normal person at this point. With oisin lurking nearby he needed to keep on his act as if he was one of the big bad's of the city. "For something so fun you look a little miserable," he pointed out with a raised brow
