Hey guys! Sorry I’ve been gone for ages. Things have been pretty non-stop rough since the pandemic began. I won’t go into details, but suffice to say, ya girl’s needed a rest and I’m not back on top of everything yet. Here’s a spider I painted recently. Omg what?! It’s me, coming in hot with a really boring post 😂 Tl;dr- I found out I’m autistic and I’m going back to school. I have had a trying year. There have been highs and very, very low lows. I’ve been floating about in limbo trying to work out where I’m heading and what I want to do, especially after receiving official diagnosis for ADHD this time last year, and a couple months ago a further diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (pending formal diagnosis when my place on the waiting list comes up). These things have made me realise that I CAN continue with my education, after years of believing I just didn’t have it in me, because now I know what I’m working with and what support I’m eligible for. And so, though I have no intention of stopping creating art, I am now working towards applying to do my MSc and, hopefully, will continue to do my PhD when the time is right. I’ve been pretty heavily focused on preparing myself for this mentally, and narrowing my field of study (with 100% focus on arachnology). What you see here is a quick illustration of a scorpion pedipalp as I prepare for a short course in Natural History Illustration which begins on the 4th of March. It’s another string to my bow which I hope will help me make compelling applications to my chosen universities. My content here will remain largely unchanged I expect, but there may be more scientific illustration & spider drawings thrown into the mix 😎 Anyway, I’m done now. I’m still working on commissions for everyone that’s on my current list, so please don’t worry about that, and I’m still planning a big shop update in the not too distant future! You’d be forgiven for thinking I’d given up drawing as my regular income by looking at how woefully inactive I’ve been on this IG account for the last few months. I can assure you, I haven’t. I’ve been having an very hard time with a lot of things, very privately. I have a list as long as my arm of client jobs that I am diligently working towards fulfilling and my personal work has just kind of been in stasis for a while. I can feel things beginning to come back to me though... and I treated myself to some lovely new equipment and reference material recently, so I shall be back on here and posting regularly again as soon as I’ve got a couple of overdue jobs wrapped up and can focus on new personal work and prints. A bit of a change of scenery for this account, and I really don’t expect it to perform especially well as a result, BUT, this is one of my (probably too many) other creative outlets! As some of you will know, I keep a lot of creatures and grow a lot of plants. Lately I’ve been bringing the two together more and I’m currently making scenery for vivaria that will ultimately house all manner of creatures. Everything you see here except the actual tank, live plants and drainage balls in the bottom was made by me.
