How much is all of the gold in our bodies worth?

Did you know that the human body contains gold? That’s right, gold. It’s a teensy tiny amount though, so don’t get excited, but what would happen if we were to harvest it from every living person on this planet (aside from permanent imprisonment)? How much money would it be worth?

According to The Elements, third edition, written by John Emsley, a person weighing 70kg contains approximately 0.2mg of gold in their body. Multiplying this up to a worldwide scale gives an estimated total of 1.4 million grams. The worth of gold is in a continual state of fluctuation, but at the time of this writing, were you to harvest it from every living person on this planet, you would be in receipt of roughly £33.95 million. Not too shabby!
