au where, instead of going into the woods to look for a dead body, stiles double-dares scott to go up and touch the front door of the burnt-out hale house. (because, you know, it’s BEACON HILLS LEGEND, SCARIEST THING IN THE UNIVERSE. HAUNTED BY THE SOULS OF THE DEAD HALE FAMILY.)
so there they are, these two dumb boys in the middle of the woods, and scott’s all shivery and shit, wondering how he’s going to make the lacrosse team when stiles has him out touching haunted doors at two in the morning. but whatever he’s not a baby he can touch the door and then he’s totally gonna dare stiles to ask lydia out.
(she’ll say no, of course she will, but scott thinks maybe it’ll be good for him to hear it.)
except they get to the house, and instead of finding the ruins that have been there for like eight years, (ten years? five years? what is timeline) they find a little cottage. and it’s cute it’s so fucking cute, there’s smoke coming out of a little chimney, and there’s a flower garden, and there’s a really fat orange cat sprawled out on the little cobblestone path that leads to the front door.
and they just kind of look each other, because they have no idea what to say, until scott is finally just like, “uhh. do i still touch the door?”
and stiles is about to answer him before the front door in question swings open. and for one second they’re totally about to bolt, to high tail it right THE FUCK out of there, and they’re clinging to each other’s arms, and stiles has his entire ‘last speech to scott’ on the tip of his tongue.
before this guy walks out in nothing but a pair of baggy sweatpants, his hair a little tousled, an open book hanging from his hand. there’s yet another cat - this one tiny and black - padding behind him, and he’s got scruff that’s on the border of being a real beard beard.
and he just raises his eyebrows at these two boys that look like they’re about to piss themselves, and says, in a monotone, “this is private property.”
