Maybe Rey’s ancestral tree was supposed to be important after all.
I know that Rian went with rey random but I’m just not convinced. Kylo is not reliable and I seriously think he could be lying in order to manipulate her. My point is I think there is still hope particularly with JJ coming back for the last movie
We guess JJ’s ultimate payback for Rian just throwing away everything he set up in TFA, is to throw away everything Rian did in TLJ, but probably unlikely since apparently JJ liked what Rian did. It’s hard for us to summon up much enthusiasm for IX in any case.
Did you see the latest ratings? Well, sad to say, Rotten Tomatoes with almost 120,000 fans clocking in, has TLJ at 55% now. Half of me wants to gloat :D. The other half of me just feels an incredible loss.
We’re amused.
do not be afraid to express your opinion (star wars fans and the media)
hey star wars fans, this is a serious message and i want to express it because it’s very concerning to me. the last jedi recently came out as we all know and it has had a crucial amount of response on both the negative and the positive. i sit on the negative side. for the first time in my life, i am genuinely rooting for a star wars movie to fail. but here’s the thing, it’s because i, as a massive star wars fan, hated this movie. all of the characters were ooc, the writing was bad, the plot made no sense, the humor was weak, it didn’t align with tfa, and there was underlying racist and sexist tones to almost every aspect of the film. those are all valid reasons to dislike a film, but that’s not the problem at hand.
the problem is that there are news articles (*cough* vanity fair *cough*) that are playing those who hated the last jedi off as those old straight white fanboys who were pissed about luke skywalker. i was pissed about luke skywalker and i am definitely not an old straight white fanboy. they’re comparing us to those who call rey a “mary sue” and want daisy out of the franchise, they are comparing us to the people who didn’t want the all-female ghostbusters movie (which is one of my favorite movies btw), they are discrediting our opinion so this movie can prosper, and we should not let that happen. audience scores can be manipulated, yes, but the people don’t lie.
if you hated the last jedi and you have those valid reasons like i, speak up! you have a right, as a fan, to have an opinion. i will not be written off as some bigot who only wants the straight white men as the stars in star wars. cause if the news actually listens, they’ll see that we’re actually complaining about the poc being sidelined and mistreated, or rey being diminished as a plot device for kylo’s journey, or an iconic hero being bastardized. so if you refuse to be categorized into that segment of “crazed fans who hate progressiveness”, say something. cause we’re trying to stop a film that claims to be progressive and isn’t, from being massively praised as progressive.
i mean hell, if the prequel haters can get respect from the media, then so can the tlj haters.
I hate when people reduce ReySkys to just being “mad that our theory was wrong”.
Like yeah, I did have plenty of self-indulgent reasons for wanting ReySky and I still stand firm in my opinion that TFA pointed towards it heavily, but that’s not even the main reason i’m upset that it didn’t happen.
The main reason I held onto ReySky so tightly (especially towards the end) is because I was desperately clinging to the hope that Disney wasn’t planning on killing the Skywalker family.
When I watched all of the movies, I immediately fell in love with the story of the Skywalkers….a dramatic space family that constantly gravitated towards both the light and dark side, but ultimately always chose light. For me, they’re the main heart of SW, and 95% of the reason i’m invested in it.
So TLJ killing ReySky was also them killing the Skywalkers. It confirmed to me that any future SW movies Disney cranks out most likely isn’t going to have Skywalkers in them, that their story is over (and they ended horribly). And I know some people are able to welcome that change of direction but for me, it’s a tough pill to swallow.
The last Skywalker ever is going to be a pissy man-child who murdered Han Solo. And even though it’s not the worst thing about TLJ, i’m not going to apologize for being upset by it.
Our reader poll explores the plot points that have viewers riled up about the latest Star Wars film.
Let’s give Finnrey some love here, huh?
GO VOTE.
You know, when the cat was out of the bag a few days ago, I was resigned to the fact of Rey Random. But I thought, hey all is not lost if they could give us someone like an Ahsoka Tano /Anakin Skywalker dynamic, then Rey Random would be just fine. Imagine my disillusionment after seeing the movie that we got nothing of the sort and so little heart between Rey and Luke. What a travesty and a waste.
It could have been really compelling.
have you read the ew interview??? with rian it basically says thats what he believes but she could still be someone, i don't know i feel like maybe it wasn't the truth what do you guys think
Honestly, we don’t care what Rian Johnson says at this point. He’s still trying to sell a movie that’s only gotten positive ratings from the press.
Whelp, that happened (just watched TLJ). I hope you guys keep the Tumblr up and point out the fanfiction fixing this stupid ass decision of storytelling failure that Disney/Lucasfilms went with. Rey is a Skywalker, I don't believe that scum-bucket Vader-wannabe, and damn Yoda is right. Hate does lead to suffering. Hate right now makes want to march some suffering all up Lucasfilms' ass! I'm going to go write good Legends based fanfic now.
We haven’t decided what to do with the Tumblr yet, but thank you! :)
Even apart from Reysky grief - I can not get over what an unfair, unwise and reckless trashing of TFA this movie is. Lightsaber tossed and cut in half, Snoke killed off with no backstory, no explanation of Force Vision, No explanation of Knights of Ren, No Kylo-Vader resolution, No explanation of Force tree, Nothing on Jedi books. Why even make TFA to begin with? Some cool moments overwhelmed by hoodwinking fans. And Canto Bight was a wasteful.
Rian wrote the movie he wanted - to hell with logic, character, and story.
Incredible Force Vision = meaningless Knights of Ren in rain= meaningless “WHAT GIRL!?”= meaningless “And now it calls to YOU”= meaningless “But there’s someone who still can”= meaningless “Bypass the hyper drive!”= meaningless “Who’s the girl?”= meaningless Han’s weird/ sad looks= meaningless “...I see the island” = meaningless Leia’s blowing off Chewy to hug Rey = meaningless Luke’s haunted look & tears on the cliff in most dramatic moment of TFA = meaningless MEANINGLESS !!!!
Saw "The Last Jedi" yesterday... and I honestly did enjoy watching it, but it does suck that Rey's not actually Luke's daughter (even though I still believe she is)... on a more positive note, I enjoyed their time together, and was dying when Rey literally "reached out" to feel the Force 😂 Also sucks that Anakin's/Luke's old lightsaber broke, but im happy she kept the pieces, and that Luke believes she can be a Jedi... I hope you all choose to stay here
There were some moments, like the “reaching out” moment, where the real Luke shone through - thanks to Mark Hamill. Shame about the rest of the rubbish they saddled him with.
Just came back from seeing TLJ. I wanted her to be a Skywalker so bad and I wanted there to be so much more Poe and Finn. I can't believe I have to hope JJ fixes SW!?! Like seriously. I hope in my heart of hearts that KR was lying and I hope she stabs him with a lightsaber next movie. I just can't believe that the Skywalker legacy ends with dumb KR. I just have to say thank you to all you've done. Your blog has been so amazing!!
Thank you for you support! We can’t believe the Skywalker family has been reduced to an unhinged, patricidal, fascist either, but here we all are and we don’t really see how JJ could pull things back from this.
I just saw TLJ and I can’t believe we’re all giving up so easily. Of course he told her, her parents are no one. He was angry and defeated and wanted her to join him. There’s still a movie left and I don’t believe she’s not a Skywalker. I still have faith.
We’ve discussed this among ourselves, and couldn’t really get behind a retcon by JJ, since we wanted to see the relationship between Luke and Rey as father and daughter and with Luke only able to come back as a Force ghost that’s not satisfying for us.
I am a ReySky believer too and finally hearing about Rey being a Radom well yes as a ReySky I'm upset at the big potential that was missed but I was willing to accept Rey random if it was done well. Apparently I'm hearing it wasn't. No matter what I will see Rey Skywalker as the best outcome in my head and play with this idea in fandom. Hopefully JJ redeems the tragedy of TLJ. I hope you will let this blog stay but I understand if you don't. ❤️
We could have accepted Rey Random if it made sense and was satisfying, but it didn’t, and it wasn’t.
We haven’t made any decisions about the blog yet, but thanks for your support!
Did you guys see this yet? :D Look at the ratings at Rotten Tomatoes. 58% audience ratings.
It’s 56% now!
