So, 3d printing onto fabric! Here’s my third test done today, on a scrap piece of tulle. The first test was on a gauze scrap, 2nd on tulle, and now this one. I didn’t have much time to babysit the prints, as I was unpacking while it worked.

The magic formula does seem to be 2 layers down first (one is too little and 3 is too much) and to reduce the speed of the print. You also -must- secure your fabric on all sides of the print bed with clips. Otherwise the fabric will bunch and the layer will not adhere to the one below the fabric.

Designs with an overhang need more babysitting than regular designs, as any catch on the lip pulls the piece up and off the fabric.

The looser the weave on your fabric, the better. Otherwise, if you poke small holes wherever the filament will sandwich, that can help too.

I’m gonna try another day to see if I can possibly print working snaps into fabric, as this would provide a really practical use for this. If it works, I’ll try and make a tutorial for it.
