The hospital always felt still at this hour.
Too quiet.
Too much time for your mind to wander.
Raya Anderson tugged her scrub top down over her hips as the elevator doors slid open onto the mental-health ward. Six floors up, far from the ER chaos, far from families crying outside ICU walls — but the emptiness was its own type of haunting.
Only four people on night shift: Ava, the other nurse; Leon, the overnight psychiatrist; and Deandre, Raya's work bestie who held down the front desk like it was his personal throne.
And Raya, the only one in the building who actually cared enough to check on patients twice an hour.
She set her bag down behind the nurses' station and clocked in.
3:06 a.m.
Ava glanced up from her charting. "Girl, why you come in lookin' like life beat your ass?"
Raya huffed a soft laugh, even though her bones felt heavy. "I'm tired, Ava. Ion' know what you want me to say."
"You been tired for months," Ava murmured, eyes narrowing like she wanted to ask more.
Raya ignored it. She always did when folks asked about Cameron.
Ava didn't even know Cameron.. she only knew what Deandre let spill from his mouth.
She walked the hallway, checking on the sleeping patients one by one. Dull yellow lights humming above her head. AC groaning like it hated this building just as much as everyone else did.
The same routine that gave her peace everyday.
But something inside her felt... off.
Like her stomach had been tightening for days without her noticing until now.
She brushed it away. The shift just started, maybe she needed her caffeine.
4:12 a.m. — The front desk
Downstairs, Deandre was scrolling on TikTok, tapping a pen against the desk like a metronome.
'I wish I had a free bag of chipsssuhhh' he thought, laughing to himself
Then the front doors slid open.
He didn't bother looking up at first — nobody came here at four in the morning except cops and delivery trucks.
But the air changed, cold and sudden.
And a weight settled in his chest like someone pressing a brick to it.
Deandre slowly lifted his eyes.
Cameron Cade walked in.
With that same stiff, dangerous stillness he'd had ever since the head injury.
Eyes everywhere, too unfocused.
A faint twitch in his jaw.
Deandre whispered, "...fuck."
Cameron's voice was low, almost quiet, but thick with something rotten underneath.
"Where Raya at.." He didn't really ask, he expected a response
Deandre felt his heartbeat spike. "Cameron... you can't be in here. You know that. You— you need to go home, now."
"I asked you where she at."
A tremor ran down Deandre's arms. He put both palms on the desk like a barrier. "She busy. And she don't wanna see you. So—"
Cameron leaned closer. His shadow swallowed the desk. "You gon' tell me."
Deandre shook his head. "No I'm not."
Cameron's mouth twitched — not a smile. Something colder. "Then I'ma handle it myself."
Deandre slid his hand underneath the desk toward the panic button. He wasn't fast enough.
His large hands shot out and snapped his neck, Deandre's limp body in his hands he dropped him face down on the desk. Scoffing.
Silence returned like nothing had happened.
Watching him twitch face down on the desk, he silently made his way behind his desk pushing the lifeless head out of his way. He combed through the computer realizing he didn't know where to look for the schedule. "Man.. fuck this." He grumbled frustrated but continued to look. Until finally, he found it and smiled to himself,
2nd shift: Raya Anderson, 6th floor.
Getting ready to make his way to the elevator the front desk phone rung and he looked at it, and looked at Deandre as if he was supposed to answer it, but he'd just killed him.. the reality of the situation angered him and he pick the phone up and slammed it down to end the call before beating Deandre's head in with the machine, bashing his skull open.
A gruesome scene of brain matter, blood, and pieces of his skull splattering everywhere. Throwing the bloody phone to the floor he made his way to the elevator.
Inside the elevator, he leaned back against the wall. The numbers climbed.
2.
3.
4.
His breathing slowed, zoning out on the metal doors in front of him as memories flooded his mind.
Raya's hands pressing an ice pack against his temple after practice.
Her voice calm even when he snapped at her.
"Cam, stop movin'. Damn. You makin' it worse."
He was so torn. He wanted to push her away and hold her tight all in the same time. Something was eating at his brain... he could feel it
And when the headaches got bad, when the rage fogged his vision and he punched holes in walls, she never backed away.
She whispered to him, held him, calmed him
Even when he scared her, when he yelled so loud the neighbors came knocking...
When he snapped and mushed her in the face, knocking her into the wall.
She stayed.
"Cam," she used to say softly, cupping his face, "you gotta breathe, baby. Please. Just breathe."
And when she cried out his name, her body trembling under him in the dark.. delivering orgasms that only he could
Reaching spots that only he could.
The way she came apart under his touch was like she was made for him.
No one else ever got her in that way.
No one else ever saw the parts of herself she saved for him.
No one else would, ever.
The elevator dinged.
His jaw ticked, fury slicing through the haze at the thought of what he lost.
He punched the metal wall so hard the entire elevator shuddered.
The doors opened with a creak of the metal
4:29 a.m. — Sixth floor
Ava stood near the supply closet, flipping through a chart. She glanced up when she heard footsteps.
Her breath caught.
Cameron was huge — 6ft 5in pushing 200lbs built like a Greek, and standing too close too fast.
"H-hi... can I help—"
"Where Raya."
Ava tried to step back but he reached her first. She barely had time to scream before a hand covered her mouth.
Her chart hit the floor with a soft flutter. Cameron dragging her back onto the elevator, hands wrapped tightly around her neck.
The elevator doors closed behind them.
The hallway was silent again.
4:41 a.m. — Nursing station
Raya was entering patient notes into the computer when she heard her name being screamed.
"RAYA!"
Her heart dropped instantly.
She knew that voice and tone all too well.
"God... no, no— please no..."
She stood up so fast her chair rolled into the wall. Her breath came shallow, quick.
Again, louder..
"RAYA! Bring yo' ass out here!" Cameron commanded
She backed into the medication room, hand shaking around her phone. She dialed Deandre.
No answer.
Her throat tightened. Something was wrong.
Deeply wrong.
Then Cameron laughed — sharp, manic, echoing through the entire floor.
"Baby, you hidin' from me now? That's crazy. After everything we been through?"
Her knees nearly buckled.
He sounded... gone.
Like whatever piece of him had survived the injury had finally snapped.
It's what he said next that confirmed her horrific thoughts
"I got your lil boyfriend."
Raya froze.
Leon.
He must've meant Leon.
"Rayaaa," Cameron called, dragging out her name like a threat. "Come get this nigga fore' I finish cuttin' his ass up."
A choked cry echoed from down the hall — small, broken.
Raya's heart lurched at the sound of Leon gurgling his own blood.
Her legs moved before her mind did.
"C–Cam," she cried out, voice cracking, "please stop! I'm here! I'm right here!"
Her own scream bounced off the walls, slicing her open.
She stepped into the hallway and saw him.
She saw Cameron.
Covered in proof of the horrific events she didn't want to accept.
Breathing like he'd run a marathon, and his eyes blown wide and dark.
And Leon on his knees in front of him, trembling uncontrollably, blood gushing down his chin.
His tongue was cut out..
Raya collapsed to the floor, sobbing openly. "Cam... please... w-what did you do?"
Cameron tilted his head, amused. "What you cryin' for?" "You did this shit, not me.."
"Please let Leon go. Please. He ain't do nothin' to you, Cameron. I'm beggin'—"
"Man, shut the fuck up beggin' for this bitch ass nigga," he snapped, dragging Leon closer.
Raya sobbed harder, her vision blurring.
Cameron stepped toward her, forcing her to look. "You see this? Look at him, Raya."
She shook her head violently. "I can't— Cam, please don't make me—"
His voice rose and boomed, "LOOK AT HIM!"
She flinched and obeyed, hands shaking uncontrollably as she lifted her eyes.
Leon stared back at her with pure terror, mouthing something she couldn't understand.
Cameron leaned in, lips curling into a half-smile.
"You fuck him?"
Raya's mouth fell open. "What? No! Cameron— no! I would never—"
"Leon?" Cameron asked, still smiling.
Leon shook his head fast, desperate.
"Not even when me and you was together?" Cameron asked.
Raya choked up at the absurd accusation. "Cam, why would you even..? I-I never cheated on you! You know that!"
Cameron's smile faded.
"That's crazy... 'cause I don't believe you." He brought the surgical knife up to the underneath of his ear.
Before she could scream again..Cameron quickly sliced the man from ear to ear. Dropping a dead Leon to the ground
Raya didn't notice she'd stopped breathing until her chest burned.
Her eyes locked on Cameron, frozen open, tears hot and blurring her vision. Her ears rang. The hallway walls felt like they were closing in. And Cameron didn't even blink.
Just stared at her like he was finally seeing something he'd been searching for.
He stepped over Leon without looking down, gaze fixed entirely on her. He walked slow, measured steps, like he was afraid she'd disappear if he moved too fast.
"Stand up," he murmured.
She felt so sick that she physically couldn't move, her knees wouldn't obey.
Cameron's head tilted. "Raya. I said—"
"I—I can't," she whispered.
He laughed, a low, humorless sound that rippled down the hallway and raised every hair on her arms.
"You can't?" His blood splattered green and white Air Jordan 1s stopped directly in front of her shaking body. "If you don't get yo' ass up..."
He grabbed her by the arm and yanked her upright like she weighed nothing. Her legs barely worked, wobbling under her as he pulled her close enough to feel the heat radiating off him.
Raya squeezed her eyes shut. "Please don't hurt me. Cam... please."
"You hurt me first," he said quietly. Too quietly.
Her saddened eyes peered up at him.
"What?"
Cameron's breath brushed her cheek as he leaned in. "You walked out on me. Like I ain't give you everything. Like your soul don't belong to me."
Raya shook her head, tears running freely now. "I-I left because you almost killed me, Cameron."
His stare sharpened. "That shit never happened so stop sayin' it!"
"I spent my birthday in the hospital, you almost crushed my windpipe" She cried just thinking about it
"And you still here," he said simply, as if that proved anything.
Raya's stomach twisted so hard she almost threw up.
He reached up, thumb brushing her cheek. Not gently — possessively.
"You always said you loved me," he whispered. "So why you actin' brand new now?"
Raya forced her voice through shaking lips. "Cameron, this ain't love. What you doin' right now— this ain't—"
"YES THE FUCK IT IS!"
His shout cracked off the walls, making Raya flinch so violently her teeth clicked together.
He abruptly moved his hand you her throat towering over her, chest rising in sharp breaths.
"You know how long I been tryna get to you tonight?" he growled. "Do you know what you put me through? Ignorin' me like some random. Like some nigga you don't know?"
She sobbed. "Cam, please let me go—"
"No," he said, firm as a slammed door. "I ain't lettin' you go nowhere. Not after you left me. Not after I bled for you. You hear me?"
Raya shook her head weakly. "You're not well, Cam... please... please just— just stop. You're scarin' me."
"You been scared," he said with a shrug. "But you always ended up back in my arms. Always."
"Come on. Elevator." He tugged her by the firm hold he had around her neck.
Raya tried to pull away instinctively — not even a real attempt, more like her body acting on pure terror. Cameron snatched her back so fast she stumbled into his chest.
"Stop! pullin' from me," he snapped, eyes wild.
"I wasn't— Cam, I swear—"
His voice dropped to a low, vibrating murmur. "You do it again, and I'ma hurt you for real."
Raya's breath hitched. "Okay... okay... I'm sorry."
His grip loosened, but only slightly.
He walked her backward toward the elevator, controlling her movement. When the doors slid open, Raya's knees gave out all over again.
Ava lay on the floor, lips blue and stiff.
Raya's scream tore out of her throat raw and animalistic.
"CAMERON! CAMERON WHAT DID YOU— OH MY GOD— AVA— AVA—"
Cameron grabbed her face quickly, covering her mouth with his palm, pressing hard.
"Shut your. fucking. mouth"
Raya sobbed against his hand, eyes squeezed shut, whole body shaking uncontrollably.
Cameron leaned close, his breath warm against her ear. "She got in my way. That's all."
Raya gagged on her own tears.
Cameron hauled her into the elevator, stepping over Ava like she was a dropped glove. He pressed the doors closed with his free hand, still holding Raya's neck with the other.
"You cryin' loud as hell," he muttered. "Relax."
"Relax?" Raya choked when he finally let her breathe. "Cam, this ain't you. You need help, you need—"
He cut her off, "All I need is you."
Raya pressed herself against the elevator rail like she could sink into it. "This ain't love, baby. You're sick. Let me hel-"
Cameron's jaw set. "Stop talkin'."
"You need to—"
"I SAID STOP TALKIN'!"
He slammed his fist against the metal wall next to her head, the sound ricocheting through the elevator like a gunshot. Raya curled inward, whimpering.
The elevator descended slowly. Painfully.
As the floor numbers dropped, Raya's hope dropped with them.

4:56 a.m. — Basement Level
The doors opened onto dim concrete and cold air. A general parking deck where no cars were.
Cameron dragged her toward the side door where the employee parking was... only four cars were parked
"You said you loved me," he muttered under his breath. "Said you'd stay. You lied."
Raya shook her head, crying harder. "I didn't lie... I just— I had to save myself."
"Nah," he growled, "you had to save us. But you folded."
They reached the car he drove which was a dark, older-model sedan.
He opened the passenger door and looked at her.
"Get in."
Raya backed up, instinct fighting for one last desperate chance. "No. Cam... Cam, please— please don't do this. You don't want to—"
Cameron stepped forward, grabbing her by the forearm so tight her skin pinched.
"Get. In. The car."
When she still couldn't move, paralyzed by terror, he shoved her inside. She scrambled against the seat, chest heaving.
He reached over her, buckling her seatbelt like they were going on a Sunday drive. His fingers brushed her chin before he shut the door.
When he walked around to the driver's side, Raya reached for the door handle.
It didn't budge.
Child lock.
She let out a trembling sob.
Cameron slid into the seat, closed the door, and started the car. His knuckles were trembling now — adrenaline, rage, obsession, confusion. A storm she'd been trapped in too many times before.
As he pulled out into the early-morning dark, Raya pressed her forehead to the window, whispering a broken chant.
"Please God... please God... please God..."
Cameron looked over at her, expression unreadable.
"You prayin'?" he asked quietly.
Raya didn't answer.
He reached over and touched her thigh gently — too gently — contrasting everything that had just happened.
"You ain't gotta pray," he murmured. "You safe with me."
She jerked away from his hand like it burned.
And Cameron's smile slowly faded.
"You still don't get it," he whispered. "But you will."
Raya's breath hitched.
The car veered off the main road, heading toward a darker, wooded stretch — a place she didn't recognize.
Cameron exhaled like he was finally relaxing.
Like being alone with her again eased something twisted inside him.
"Almost there," he said softly. "Then we gon' talk... real calm. Get everything off our chest"
Raya turned her head, fear hollowing her chest.
"Cameron," she whispered, voice breaking, "please don't hurt me."
He didn't look away from the road.
"I ain't tryna hurt you," he said quietly. "I'm tryna fix you."
The car disappeared deeper into the trees.
Tall, dark silhouettes pressed in on both sides of the sloping dirt road, branches clawing at the windows like something alive. The sky was barely gray with dawn, but it didn't matter — the woods felt timeless. Thick. Smothering.
Raya sat stiff as a board in the passenger seat, eyes trained on the blur of trees passing by, every breath trembling.
Cameron drove with one hand, the other resting on his thigh, fingers tapping like he was thinking. Or planning.
"You cold?" he asked suddenly.
Raya flinched. "N-No."
"You shakin'."
"I'm scared," she whispered.
Cameron didn't respond, but his jaw tensed — not in guilt, but in annoyance.
"You act like I'm a monster," he said after a moment.
Raya didn't answer.
He hummed. "I ain't no monster, Raya."
A chill crawled across her skin.
The car rolled to a stop in a small clearing. No lights. No buildings. Nothing but trees and a stretch of dirt that looked like nobody had driven through in years.
Cameron cut the engine.
The silence hit like a slap.
Raya's chest tightened. Hard.
"Cameron..." her voice cracked. "Where... where are we?"
"Somewhere quiet," he murmured, leaning back in his seat. "You wanted space, didn't you? Space to think. Space from me."
He turned his head, eyes cold but intent.
"So think."
Raya shook her head violently. "Cam, please— please listen— I'm not tryna fight you. I'm not tryna argue. I'm scared. I'm really scared."
"You scared of me?"
"Yes!" Raya burst out, finally finding her voice. "Yes, Cam, I'm terrified of you! Look at what you did tonight! Look at—" she swallowed the name, shaking harder— "look at everything! This ain't you! This ain't the man I love!"
Cameron's brows slowly lowered.
"Nah ma, this me."
He opened his door. The hinge creaked, loud in the stillness.
"Get out."
Raya's stomach dropped clean out of her body.
"Cameron, please—"
"I ain't askin'."
He walked around to her side. Pulled her door open. His massive frame filled the cold morning.
Raya shook her head so hard her braids slapped against her cheeks. "Cam, please. Please don't make me—"
He leaned down, looking her dead in her eyes.
"You wanna live, Raya?"
His voice was soft. Dead quiet.
"Then get the fuck out the car."
Her breath caught in her throat.
Because she saw it.
That flicker behind his eyes — the same one she had seen the night she left him. That disconnection. That emptiness. A mind slipping underwater.
Raya unbuckled with shaking hands and stepped out on unsteady feet. The ground was cold, soft with leaves and dew.
Cameron grabbed her wrist and guided her toward the center of the wooded area.
Her knees felt like they'd give out. "Cam... what are you doing..."
He stopped walking and turned her to face him.
His eyes roamed her face like he was memorizing her.
"You always were so damn pretty cryin'," he whispered, his big hands roaming her clothed body.
Raya's chest collapsed inward.
"Don't— don't say that..."
His free hand cupped her jaw and went to the top of her purple scrubs. She tried stepping back, in retaliation he ripped the top to her scrubs down the middle.
She let out a gasp at the sting from it. His gaze shot down to her heavy exposed breast, mouth watering at her chocolate pebbled nipples.
Her shaking hands shot to cover her exposed chest, and he immediately forced her hands away.
Gripping her left breast roughly, flesh spilling between his fingers.
"Don't try to hide these pretty ass titties from me.." he grumbled out now kissing down her neck to the juicy set of DDs on her chest, taking her sensitive nipple in between his teeth.
Raya hated the way he body betrayed her mind, "I don't want this.. Cameron please" she sobbed hoping for the man to stop.
Cameron peered up at her with a blank stare, still attacking her nipples.
Relishing in the moment he'd got carried away and the suction became too much. Raya trying to pull away from him
"S-stop! it's hurting p-please!" She tried pushing his head but all she got in return was a hard bite to her now bruised nipple.
She screamed out hoping for help but, noticing how Cameron didn't deter...
Nobody would hear her anyway…
As that revelation hit her, she felt Cameron's hand move into the front of her scrubs and started to fight.
"Stop fighting me, Raya.." he huffed out in a struggle with the girl thrashing around.
Repeatedly screaming no Raya tried everything but Cameron didn't lose grip on her
At a final attempt to get him off her, she sank her teeth into his forearm. Grunting from the pain he slung her to the ground that was covered in twigs and smaller branches— cutting her skin up.
Before she knew it she was pinned beneath him and her pants were at her ankles. She started to beg.. to plead
"Baby, ple-" a broken shriek came from her sore throat at the sudden intrusion of his thick, lengthy piece.
Cameron grunted, releasing a shaky breath. "Fuck, I love you so much.. so much"
Grinding his hips into hers, the feeling of her velvety canal clenching down onto him making his head spin.
"u-ughh pleasee" Raya moaned out but tears were pouring down her face. She was so terribly conflicted, the pleasure intensifying every stroke but the mental resistance.
Her friends were dead and she was enjoying this...
Cameron leaned down to attack her lips, the salty taste of her tears made him grunt in approval.
Now getting rid of the pants around her ankles completely, he lifted one of her legs in the crook of his arm. Now driving his hips harder— the curve of his dick hitting her spot causing her to flinch.
Sinking her nails into his shoulders, he swallowed the cry she let out into the kiss.
Pulling back the pairs lips were swollen but, he didn't slow his movements— abusing her g-spot.
" n-ughhh! Shit s-sto.." her cries were cut short
" shhh.. this my pussy and she gushin all on my dick.." he groaned tilting her head up, mouth attacking her neck
Sucking and biting at her sweet spot letting out a whine that could've been mistaken for a sigh, she left a white cast around his piece, adding onto the macaroni noises.
" mmm shit, she talkin' to me, ma" he moaned out caught up in the scene of the two of them connected.
Glancing up at her, he still saw the tears, a pout graced her face with her eyes in the back of her head.
"I fucking. Love. You" He sharply thrust into her hitting her already sensitive spot, making her cry out.
Her lower half started to convulse and she grabbed a fistful of leaves on the ground, gripping anything for stability.
Raya arched up into him, "Oh—shit! I'm c-cumming!" clenching down on his piece as her intense orgasm took over her, guilt right along with it.
Cameron gave her no time to think about it—continuing to roughly stroke her through her orgasm, chasing his own.
"f-fuckkk" he groaned slamming his hips into hers, his tight heavy balls releasing deep into her.
Pulling out leaving kisses over her face, she whimpered
Raya fought back a sob. "Baby, please... I'm— I'm so tired, Cam. I'm so tired..."
He rested his forehead against hers.
The closeness gave her a false sense of hope.
"I know," he breathed. "I know you are. That's why I brought you out here."
Raya swallowed hard. "Why...?"
"So you can finally rest."
Her blood ran cold.
"Cameron, wait— wait please—"
He shushed her softly. "Come here."
He hovered over her with teary eyes, that still looked so.. empty. Raya's breath stuttered as her face pressed into his chest.
She could hear his heartbeat. Fast. Uneven.
"Cam... please don't hurt me..." she whispered against him.
He just looked down at her, his tears mixing with hers.
"I don't wanna hurt you," he murmured to her. "I'm ending your hurt."
Raya's body seized with terror.
"No... no, Cameron, please— please—"
His voice dipped to a ghost of a whisper.
"You ain't leavin' me again."
Her breath caught.
"Cam—"
His arms shifted and she felt a prick— a needle into the side of her thigh.
Raya gasped— the substance taking effect almost immediately
"Cam... Cam I can't... I can't breathe—"
He held her against him, eyes closed, rocking her gently. His cheek pressed into her braids. His grip tightening, kissing her forehead
"Shhh... I got you," he murmured. "I got you... I got you..."
Her hands pushed weakly at his chest. "Cameron... please... please don't..."
"You tired," he whispered. "I know you are. Lemme help you rest."
Her frantic cries slowly started to calm, before ceasing completely
Her fingers slipped from gripping his shirt to barely touching his shoulder.
Cameron kept holding her whispering, "I love you. I love you. I love you," like a chant he was trying to force into her skin.
Until everything was silent, the sun began to break through the trees overhead.
His voice was calm, almost peaceful, as he brushed his thumb over her cheek one last time.
"I love you.."
He kissed her forehead.
Then carried her deeper into the woods.
A/n: I hope y’all enjoyeddd! Sorry for disappearing but uhh.. yeah
