I really love S1 retelling, and one of them is the idea of Derek letting Scott kill Peter in the end, even tho it's a horrible idea cause, you know, sixteen years old beta becoming an alpha after being a werewolf for a few weeks? Yeah, bad idea
But, the one I did find about this au always start with the idea that the myth is real, and Scott becomes human, and Derek an omega (at least the sterek ones) And yeah, it's good, BUT
It would have been more probable Scott ending up as an alpha
And like
The mess it would create!? That's compelling as shit. It would be horrifying.
Another thing
It's always Derek just, giving up and letting Scott do it, but, Scott, 16 years old and grasping at his humanity, not wanting to let it go?
Give me Scott stopping Derek, fighting him, killing Peter while Derek screams at him not to, that it won't make him human, and Scott listening and doing it anyway.
Give me horrified Derek, cause here it was, watching helplessly as the last one of his family got killed in front of him, even tho that was what he always planned to do, but it would be different. If peter died by his hand it would have been his choice, fuck, even if Derek let Scott kill Peter, it would have still been his choice. But Scott taking that choice away from him? Losing another person of his family by the hands of someone else while unable to stop it?
Give me Scott, scared and so young and desperate to be human, to be normal, killing someone thinking that it would fix everything but messing it up more? Scared cause he's changing again and it wasn't supposed to be like this and this time he can't blame anyone other than himself cause he chose to do it, this time it was his fault, his choice, and still, begging Derek to tell him what's happening, screaming that it was Derek's fault (cause if it's not then it's his own and he can't handle it). Scared cause the power is too much, and he's losing control and he'll become just like Peter
Give me this, come one
Omega Derek even tho Scott is an Alpha cause he can't, his alpha was his mother, and then his sister, and he can't, and Scott doesn't want him anyway
Alpha Scott on the verge of going feral cause he can't control the power and he doesn't want to bite anyone (cause it happened to him, and since it was horrible to him, it's going to be horrible for everyone, no matter if it's by choice, cause it would be the wrong one and he doesn't want another werewolf anyway, Stiles and Allison are enough and he won't become like Peter, he won't, he won't)
And Stiles just, wants to help them both, and he doesn't know how and everything is fucked up and, well, he'll fix this, he'll find a way, he has to.
Peter and Derek’s relationship, both pre- and post-fire, never fails to make me a little insane.
We see very little of them pre-fire, exceptions being "Visionary" and "117", but even those small pieces imply a whole hell of a lot about the larger picture.
(This got a lot longer than I realised so here)
"Visionary" can and should be taken with a grain of salt, given that Peter is telling the story and has his biases. But when he said he was Derek’s best friend and closest confidante, that doesn't seem like much of an exaggeration. Derek isn't even surprised when Peter shows up at school to bother him and ribs him about being thrown out, implying it's something he does often enough to be normal. Not to mention, cool kids don't sit alone at lunch. Derek is only seen with his basketball friends for a few seconds before they walk off and leave him. Safe to say, Derek was probably kind of a loner. Now, how accurate Peter's involvement with the whole Paige incident is...debatable (Why would Ennis listen to a Beta from another pack? Why would he bite someone who doesn't live in his territory and has no autonomy to move? Also, I feel like it should be some kind of werewolf faux pas to bite someone in another Alpha's territory–you don't have suitable candidates at home?) but however it really happened, I do believe Peter did have a hand in it and is guilty over it. He was the one to take Paige’s body away and tell Talia where to find Derek, too. Either way, his statement about them being close wasn't embellished at all.
Also there's parts of it that weren't told by Peter at all. They came from Cora. Given her age at the time, it's possible she misremembers some things, but she can still be considered a more reliable narrator than Peter. When the Argents were out hunting Ennis's Beta and Derek clearly got caught up in it, it's Peter who comes to save him. Speaking of, "we have a code" is a heaping pile of horseshit because those hunters killed Ennis's Beta without even knowing if he was the right werewolf, nearly killed Derek just because he was there, and still went looking for Derek and Peter afterwards. Peter went out to find his nephew and hid in a literal hole in the ground with him for two days to avoid being killed.
"117" is wild, though. The fact that Peter is the one to go find Derek after the game and talk him down says. A lot. About the Hales and their dynamics. Sure, Peter was also a jock in high school, he'd be there to watch. But was there no other adult there? Derek says it was the finals, so it's an important game, makes sense at least some of the family would show up. Talia didn't go see it? Derek's father? Laura, even? Yeah, yeah, it's the boys' locker room, but seriously, being sneaky is a Hale specialty. Speaking of Talia, did she not consider that maybe, just maybe, she shouldn't let a still-grieving teenage werewolf with shaky control play a very public basketball game on a full moon? We've seen multiple times that playing sports triggers the shift. It gets their heart rate up, adrenalin and endorphins going, and it is, to a degree, aggressive, like most sports. Not a good idea. And after all that, it's Peter who goes to talk Derek down and teaches him to anchor himself. Ma'am? Why are you letting your baby brother, whom you don't even listen to, be responsible for teaching your son how to werewolf?
Post-fire is equally important to me. It's more subtle, but Derek is still 100% Peter's favourite and I'll never hear different.
Even in S1, it's fairly obvious that Derek cares about Peter, going to see him and talk to him even though Peter is still unresponsive. Not only that, but he clearly goes often enough someone knew to look for his car there (leaving the note about the deer) and that Peter knows who Stiles is before they even meet. One could argue he knows Stiles from seeing him with Scott in Alpha form during "Night School", but if that was true, he would already recognise Stiles. "You must be Stiles." That's not something you say to someone you already know. That's what you say when first meeting a person you've heard a lot about but haven't seen. Which means Peter has heard a lot about Stiles from Derek, the only person who regularly visits him/speaks to him.
As for later seasons....whoa. Peter wants to be the Alpha again. Says it flat out. Wants to reclaim Beacon Hills, his family's ancestral territory, and restore their name. Honestly, not the worst motive. It's the methods that get sticky. But, even saying that, he never attacks Derek. For months, he has the Hale spark right there in front of him and doesn't do anything about it. He even tells Derek how to heal Cora with the spark, knowing full well that means it will disappear. I don't think he knew about the whole True Alpha nonsense, but he did know that another Alpha would eventually move in to claim the territory and the pack, given there's basically one ready-made just waiting for a leader. Just so happens that it's Scott, and Peter doesn't hesitate to plan on killing him. Now, I do take issue with him working with Kate Fucking Argent, murderer of his family and rapist of his nephew, to do it, but that, I'm laying on the writers being too lazy to make a more cohesive villain plot and recycling old ones instead.
While on the subject of S4, blaming Peter for the deadpool makes zero sense. It was an exaggerated revenge fantasy dreamed up by a comatose man who was in constant agony for six years, picked up by the uncertain powers of a mentally unsound banshee in a psych ward. He didn't even remember the shit when he came around. His waking plans were a lot more cohesive and made sense—getting revenge on the people who murdered his family and rebuilding their pack. And after seeing what we do of Eichen House and how patients are treated, especially supernatural ones, I would absolutely be carving a symbol for vendetta on my floor if I were Peter. Scott can fucking choke. Honestly, Peter should have carried on with that particular plan.
And during his tenure as Alpha, Derek didn't get rid of Peter. He could have. Easily. Peter isn't as strong as he used to be, and Derek has the right to throw his ass out of the territory. But he doesn't. We regularly see Peter just hanging out at Derek’s loft even though he has his own place. And it's even hinted that Peter bought some of the furniture in Derek’s loft ("That table's Italian.") which is wild to think about. Even though Derek isn't always nice ("We don't like you. Now shut up and help us."), he doesn't ever really complain or do anything to make Peter leave. The issue of Laura makes things a little rough, but I do think Derek does have some understanding after being shown Peter's memories in S1, and we know Peter doesn't blame Derek for the fire. So their sniping at each other might be a little meaner, but it isn't much different from how they were before.
Their whole deal is just so messy and interesting and painful and fun. Love a feral uncle-nephew duo who have legitimately killed one another before and still protect each other.
TL;DR—the Hales are my favourite messed up family and deserved the world instead of having to deal with Scott McCall.
The writers tried so so hard to make him the bad guy and sucked at it so so badly.
Could he have handled the Betas better? Yeah. Considering the very literal life-or-death situation they were in and the fact that he had zero preparation for this? He did his best.
But as far as the Kanima situation went, my guy had that shit locked down, and I will fight anyone who says different.
Derek didn't know what it was initially, sure, and yeah, he had to intimidate Stiles into talking to him, but that's because he knew that Stiles (and Scott by extension) weren't going to help him anyways. Which he was right about, too. And the moment he did know what it was, he immediately knew he had a very finite list of suspects—the people Peter has bitten (Scott, Lydia) and the people Derek has bitten (Jackson, Isaac, Erica, Boyd). He said, "Well, this thing is a shapeshifter gone wrong, so who do I know has had an abnormal reaction to the bite?" And that would be Jackson and Lydia.
Once he knew what and who he was looking for, he didn't just flip a coin, heads, Jackson and tails, Lydia. He could have just guessed. Hell, he's got a 50-50 shot of being right, and it's not like Lydia means anything to him, he wasn't even the one to bite her. He could have killed both of them and called it a day, which Peter probably would have done. Instead, he came up with a test, and it was a logical test too—why Lydia would be immune to a paralytic venom that affects werewolves and a Nogitsune, I have no fucking idea—to see which of them it was. He even managed to test Lydia without her knowing, which is pretty impressive considering how completely unsubtle Scott and Stiles have been. Not only that, he knew that Scott would try and stop him, so he intentionally let himself be spotted with Boyd (his most physically intimidating Beta, the most obvious choice for fighting a Kanima) to distract Scott and get him out of the way so Erica and Isaac could handle Lydia.
Derek had plans. He thought this shit out. Just because some people managed to consistently fuck it up for him doesn't mean that they weren't good, solid plans.
Even them trying to make it seem like Derek is the bad guy for wanting to kill Lydia/Jackson/the Kanima doesn't really play out. What the hell else is he supposed to do? This thing is a legend even to literal werewolves. Also, the Kanima killings are bringing a whole lot of hunter attention down on his pack, and considering that Gerard Argent, the veritable boogeyman of hunters, is in town looking for a reason to go scorched earth, Derek is under a bit of goddamn pressure to get this thing handled fast. Not to mention, he's the Alpha now, meaning when shit like this goes down in Beacon Hills, it's his responsibility to sort it out. Which he is doing.
And as far as trapping the Kanima with mountain ash, since when has Deaton ever been even remotely helpful towards Derek? That man is beyond sketchy and for someone who worked for (and supposedly loved) Talia Hale, Deaton sure does treat her only living son like shit. Arguably the only reason he helps at all is because Scott asks. Even if Deaton had helped on his own (doubtful), who exactly would Derek have used to handle the ash? He can't. None of the Betas can. He has no human allies. At this point, Stiles is very clearly with Scott, and Scott is very adamantly not in Derek’s pack. So that whole avenue was closed to him until they decided to help.
The part about curing the Kanima by having a loved one call it by its Christian name (which is an IRL piece of werewolf mythology)? Peter is the one to tell him about it, and he had to consult the Hale family records to do it. Getting into mild headcanon territory, it would seem that pre-fire, Peter was kind of the Stiles of the Hale pack, meaning it's his job to know about obscure lore like this, so it tracks that he's the one to know about it. Why would Derek know that? He was sixteen when the fire happened. How involved with pack business do you honestly think he was? But even so, once he had a viable alternative to killing the Kanima, he took it. Even though he knew it was a risk, the Kanima was close to evolving, and Gerard was controlling it.
Jeff Dingus might hate Derek Hale, but bitch, I sure as fuck don't. He was handling a pretty impossible situation with a lot more tact and thought than the supposed "hero" of the show did. If he'd been given an actual opportunity to be an Alpha without this insane level of, again, literal life-or-death pressure, he would have been fine.
These two gifs right here are the most important sticking points of S2.
This right here is why no one will ever tell me Stiles isn't considered a part of the Hale pack or that Scott isn't a terrible friend.
Up until now, Stiles has not been friends with Erica and Boyd. They were at odds for most of the season and barely even reluctant allies before those two decided to leave. Erica's gotten violent with Stiles more than once, and I'm sure Boyd would have too if it'd been necessary. But even with all that, the moment he sees them, he's shocked and immediately goes to help, even though they are in the Argents' actual basement and most definitely being watched and can't escape. He still tries to help them, hell, he even tries to help Erica first. After all they shit they put him through, he's still trying. Which is why any good "Boyd and Erica live" AUs should include this moment because I fully believe they would have unintentionally and instinctively pack bonded to Stiles.
As for the second one.... The makeup team wussed out on Stiles’s injuries, no joke. Look how Gerard is hitting him. Even if he is an older man with cancer, it's made clear that hunters are in excellent physical shape, need to be in order to do what they do, and in the very first episode, Gerard is shown to have the wherewithal to cut an adult man in half with a sword in one swing. Even with a sharp-sharp blade, that takes strength. And he's definitely not pulling his punches, considering Gerard is doing this to send a message to Scott. How Stiles looked in canon, that was a work email at best. That's not a message. Stiles shouldn't have had a little scrape and a cut lip. I've looked worse than that after knocking a light shelf down on my face. No, he should have looked more like post-Russian Steve Harrington (iykyk).
And we get no acknowledgement of this from Scott. No bro moment, no "whoa, what happened to you?", no angst of "this is my fault," just a passing line of "Oh they found Stiles" and that's it. Not even after the action is over do we see them discuss it. Jesus, Scott. No wonder Stiles spent the summer hanging with Derek.
Speaking of, this is also why I find Boyd’s line to Stiles, "I would have told you, but we aren't actually friends," in 3A infuriating. Really, Vernon? He's not your friend? You saw him get his face beat in after trying to save you and Erica from the hunters, and he's not your friend? He spent his summer looking for you both while Scott did fuckall, and he's not your friend? He willingly spent time with Scarf Boy, and he's not your friend? He planned a bank heist with Peter, and he's not your friend? I'd definitely say he's more than a passing acquaintance, Vernon. If that doesn't at least warrant sitting together at lunch, I don't know what would.
But noooo, Stiles isn't allowed to have friends outside of Scott, especially not in Derek’s pack, so we got that bullshit instead.
Stiles and Derek inside the Princess Mononoke world.
Sketch for an art task - to draw a favourite character in a favourite setting (film/anime/etc.) So here we are :D I love Stiles as a character and Mononoke is such a good film. A perfect combination.
#i’m sorry but i am never going to get over the cuteness is that when stiles lifts his head to ask that question #he doesn’t even scan through the room he looks directly at derek as if derek is the one that matters #or that he just knows that with everyone so frantic and and busy that derek will be the one to listen #or the fact that when stiles does ask the question that no one even lifts up their head #and derek doesn’t pause to see if someone will answer stiles first #the moment stiles speaks derek acknowledges him #and he doesn’t call him an idiot or get short with him because of their argument from earlier #his eyes are patient and his tone doesn’t shoot stiles down as this useless kid #which in this situation stiles /is/ #he’s dead weight right now because it’s almost every man for himself #if someone gets stranded they have to be strong enough to hold off the alpha twins long enough for help to come #and stiles wouldn’t last a minute #he shouldn’t even be there #but derek isn’t dismissing stiles as anything less than equal part of the team #and so derek tells stiles to put them down because honestly if stiles doesn’t know how to work them he’ll only hurt himself #and that matters #and i think stiles gets that #which is why he didn’t sass back #gosh these two so much development in this season #amongst all the chaos and empty plots and useless fight scenes #these two were strong and steady and made sense #were /right/ (via mydearsourwolf)
The fact that the question “Is that him? Is that Derek?” Was directed at Stiles was amazing. What’s even more spectacular is his answer: “Sort of.”
That means Stiles knew what teenage Derek looked like. He didn’t answer “I don’t know.” Or “I think so.” It was “Sort of.” Which means he knew it was Derek but a younger version. The fact that Derek de-aged is what confused Stiles not if the person in front of him was Derek or not.
Which is the closest to confirmation we’ll ever get that Stiles was at the station the night of the fire. How else would a 16 year old and 11-13 year old boy cross paths?
In the first episode Scott didn’t know who Derek was Stiles did. Why? Because if you see a teenager who just lost everything sitting at your father’s work, broken, you don’t forget it.
If you see a boy who face looks identical to yours in the mirror when you think of losing your mom, you don’t forget that.
That’s why Stiles knew who Derek was. That day in the forest and years later in Mexico. Stiles never forgot Derek Hale and never will.
This was commissioned by @memprime, and they requested a cute Stiles and Wolf!Derek! I’m usually pretty bad at backgrounds so but I tried really hard! I think it came out cute though…
Like i’ve been saying for the past weeks I’m considering making some merch of some of my drawings! >w< <3
If i get enough response I’m planing on having 3 charms, some post cards and stickers! <3 can’t wait!!
