FOSSILCLEANING HEADCANONS
By yours truly (i made this in 2025 its been rotting in my drafts since)
also mentions of mental health + homophobia + other topics so just.. yeah😓😓 feel free to skip out on this. also disclaimer these are MY personal hcs.. which are a mix of inferences and then just me playing with the characters lol
also this post is made before the tisha totw update so dont get on me if any of these are wrong 😭 .. and also slightly updated after the “i got your back” video
Shelly:
- Because of Shelly being a main, she wasn’t unpopular by any means. However, compared to other mains, she was outshined; she wasn’t as magical as Astro, or charismatic as Vee, or appealing like Sprout. This made contributed to her poor sense of self worth and made her grow bitter.
- In a way, Shelly was jealous because she should be treated like a main, but she wasn’t. That resentment only got worse as Gardenview was at its peak, but her attractions and merchandise just couldn’t compete with the other mains.
- To add to that, other toons didn’t recognize her as a main, only adding fuel to the fire. However, a select few toons kept her from blaming everyone entirely. (These would be Bassie, Astro, Teagan, and Tisha.. probably some others I can’t remember off the top of my head too.)
- Her and Tisha became fairly good friends, but weren’t exactly close. Not until Tisha and Brusha had a falling out.
- Before Gardenview shut down, Shelly was usually free throughout the day, as kids generally treated her floor as a one and done deal — they’d rather play games on Vee’s arcades or experience Astro’s floor. Sure, she’d get a group of kids every now & then, but they never stayed long & it was occasional. This left her with a lot of free time to talk to other unpopular toons or invest in hobbies. (She also used that time to help out Tisha, or Tisha would come visit her after cleaning up all the messes 🤫)
- Shelly developed a crush on Tisha over the span of a couple months, essentially a slow burn. She had a crush for maybe two years before confessing.
- Shanon, being her mother figure (another headcanon), was the first to know about her crush on Tisha. While Shanon didn’t mind that she had a crush on Tisha, she discouraged being open about it, as she not only had a reputation to hold (being accurate to the cartoon character as close as possible), but also didn’t want her to be ridiculed for her crush. While Shanon was understanding and as supportive as she could be, it didn’t change the fact that Shelly & Tisha could never be open about their feelings.
- Shelly couldn’t understand why her feelings to Tisha were to be suppressed, Shanon never told her why it wouldn’t be plausible. After that conversation, she felt like something was wrong with her — she’s supposed to be close to her cartoon counterpart, but she felt nothing like it.
- She has an internalized hatred for herself. She’s not THE “Shelly Fossilian,” just a body meant to mildly represent her.
- After Gardenview closed, Shelly fell into a depression without her handler, who was practically family to her.
- Shelly didn’t confess to Tisha until Gardenview shut down and the toons were left to rot.
- Her love language is physical touch and quality time! Well, actually it’s all, but those are her major ones. Whenever she spots Tisha, she is always in arm’s reach — this could be at meetings, hang-outs, parties, wherever Tisha is, she’s there too. There isn’t a moment she doesn’t love her girlfriend’s company.
- This girl is so needy it’s insane. Super clingy & constantly in her friends and girlfriend’s space. She’s getting better though as her and Tisha establish boundaries (especially when Tisha’s exhausted & needs to recharge). She’s learned not to take it personally. At the beginning of their relationship she took it as a sign that Tisha hated her & wanted to break up (obviously she didn’t but she’s used to not being wanted, it messed with her). However she’s still very clingy and needs reassurance every now and then.
- Shelly’s autistic, but she’d never get diagnosed. She knows something’s different about her but she can never figure out why, what, or how. Every so often she feels different and isolated from the rest of the cast and grieves how none of them can seem to understand her. Tisha’s one of the only ones to accommodate and work with Shelly even though she hasn’t a clue what’s up with her.
- Shelly has a couple hobbies: Reading, she likes to read about dinosaurs specifically but she doesn’t mind a good book. Drawing, even if she’s not as experienced as Brusha, she loves to doodle. Cooking/Baking, she picked it up when her and Cosmo were closer, she still does it every now and then for the fun of it. Sewing, I headcanon that she picked up sewing after Gardenview closed. Writing, hear me out: she keeps a diary and she likes to not only journal but also write short stories. She’s always open to something new as she uses these to pass time.
- She’s sewn a couple gifts ranging from clothing to plushies to other things. Whenever someone has a rip or tear in their clothing, they come to Shelly — Tisha frequently visits as her dress may catch on fire, get caught and tear, or other things.
- She may also tear apart the Shelly plushies for stuffing. She doesn’t think the other mains deserve that treatment for their brand, and would rather take apart what nobody wants.
- She LOVESSSSSS biting things. Almost everything in her room’s been biten at least once. And Tisha, though admittedly she’s gentle with her and not dislodging chunks outta her. (Honestly she would benefit from one of those silicone teething necklaces)
- Shelly’s favorite snack is crunchy peanut butter. Yes, it has to be crunchy, she hates the smooth stuff.
- For not having a nose, she’s got a great sense of smell that she uses to track down anything and everyone. She’s noticed that Tisha smells like hand sanitizer, Astro smells like lavender, Yatta smells like fruity candy, and Cosmo & Sprout smell like their respective food items. She can identify most toons by their scents.
- Shelly’s special interest isn’t just dinosaurs but prehistoric life as a whole. I know this is obvious in her dialogue but I just wanted to clarify it, LOL.
Tisha:
- When Delilah was creating Tisha, she wired her to impulsively clean up every mess she saw. In turn, this messed with Tisha’s brain and the way she thinks. Her “programming” to clean often gets in the way of her critical thinking, but she’s otherwise incredibly capable & intelligent.
- Because of her impulsive behaviors due to her need to clean, it’s led to a lot of emotional meltdowns for Tisha. She doesn’t know what’s going on with her head and why she feels the irrational need to fix the slightest inconvenience. It doesn’t help that nobody helps the issue or tries to make her life easier.
- Tisha picks up on things fairly quickly, it’s one of her natural gifts. Need to repair vents? She’ll read a manual and fix it up. Something going on with the generator? It’ll take a few tests but she’ll get it running. Only downside to this is that it’s incredibly situational and Tisha has to teach herself — meaning if there’s nothing to teach her than she’ll struggle with it.
- For some unnatural reason, Tisha can sense if something’s been moved or shifted in the slightest. Mostly because she knows how everything should be, if she sees the carpet has moved or a table’s a few centimeters off, she can tell. This helped her later when Gardenview started to find itself overrun by twisteds.
- Before Gardenview shut down, there were several other janitors (Human, ofc) that’d take care of the messes. This left Tisha with more time to educate kids on the importance of cleaning up after yourself. While Tisha cleaned up frequently, it wasn’t as bad as it got after the shutdown.
- Tisha and Shelly were good friends, but Brusha was far closer with Tisha before the show introduced her character, to which Brusha’s entire personality flipped on Tisha. Afterwards, there were countless argument that followed to which Brusha made personal jabs at Tisha and Gardenview as a whole — and Tisha, in a fit of anger, ended their friendship on the spot. (Yes I have headcanons for Brusha & her reasonings but this is a FOSSILCLEANING POST!!)
- After Brusha & Tisha’s friendship ended, Tisha avoided everyone, constantly locking herself away in her room and deterring from guests and toons. Janitors had to work overtime just to account for their missing helper. Toons were getting worried and staff got irritated. Delilah & Arthur would try talking to her and even tried forcing her out, but nothing worked.
- Shanon had the idea one day to send Shelly to get Tisha (albeit, they were not that close, but they were still good friends and got along just as they would in the Cartoon). It didn’t.. work at first, Shelly went up to the door and Tisha would reply something along the lines of, “Go away,” or “Leave me alone.” But as optimistic as Shelly is, she slowly convinced Tisha to let down her guard and help her.
- Shelly was the only toon allowed in her room at the time and listened to Tisha’s rants and frustrations. Tisha talked about what made her so vulnerable, which only solidified Shelly’s respect for her.
- Eventually Tisha was coaxed out of her room in a month or so, but higher-ups were displeased over her outburst and reprimanded Tisha for wasting their time by making her work night-shifts cleaning the ickiest parts of Gardenview. Yet nobody seemed to notice her work, except Shelly whom she previously opened up to.
- Overtime, her and Shelly developed a close bond, considering Shelly as her best friend. She’d finish cleaning faster just to talk to Shelly, who coincidentally had little visitors. She spent a lot of time on her floor — in fact, she left it in the most pristine condition of all floors in Gardenview.
- Shanon may have been closest to Shelly, but Tisha was a close second. As the common toons had no handlers, Shanon gladly took up an “honorary handler” position for Tisha.
- However when Gardenview closed, Shanon was ripped from them. Shelly would find Shanon’s note & come to Tisha — where she’d open up. Tisha gladly listened and did her best to help Shelly with not only Shanon’s loss but her doubts about her character counterpart.
- At some point when the Ichor Operation started, there was an accident involving a team which Shelly & Tisha were on. Without any direct leadership, Shelly took the opportunity to step in and guide everyone away from danger. Tisha, who had been struggling with what she thought of Shelly, then started to realize her feelings for her.
- Due to the lack of janitors, Gardenview got cluttered fast. Though Tisha works quick, she can barely top more than 30 toons causing messes. She’s often up late cleaning hallways.
- It’s not uncommon for her to pass out at 2 am in the hallway, though majority of everyone seems to avoid her rather than wake her — however, Shelly always carries Tisha back to her room and tucks her in. (Other toons do different things like give her a blanket but this isn’t ab them)
- Tisha used to drink coffee daily, becoming dependent on the caffeine. However, when Gardenview shut down there was extremely limited supplies & only has a cup of coffee every so often. It gives her headaches and makes her moody.
- Speaking of moody, Tisha has so much pent up feelings, yet she masks it under a collected facade. Although when she’s alone (cleaning up messes, in her room, whatever) they spiral out of control. She’s prone to lashing out when she gets heavy mood-swings.
- She’s lashed out at Shelly unintentionally once, never again. She regrets it beyond anything & feels guilty whenever the thought crosses her mind. Even when Shelly’s already forgiven her, Tisha will crumble in tears the moment she even thinks she’ll lash out at Shelly.
- Tisha doesn’t mind Shelly’s clinginess, though there’s times where she wants to do her own thing without Shelly in her space. They’ll often hang out in eachother’s company without directly interacting, for example Shelly will be reading a book while Tisha will sew. (I like to think she taught Shelly, or even Shelly taught her!!)
- She prefers slow and calm hugging + kissing over spontaneous affection. While she doesn’t mind it, she’s usually so tired that she can’t handle that energy.
- At some point, Tisha snapped at frequently messy toons, claiming not to ever clean up their messed again… Gardenview absolutely cluttered after a day. When other toons realized how bad their messes were, they started to understand Tisha’s frustration and started being considerate of her time — Tisha didn’t clean for as long, leaving her time to do other things. (Like sleep)
- When Tisha gets a full night of sleep, she easily matches Shelly’s enthusiasm. They bounce off eachother incredibly well when she’s not running off 3 hours of sleep.
- Gardenview feels suffocating for Tisha. She sees all the little dirt and grime in every corner and tries to isolate herself from it.
- Tisha gets cold easily.
- Tisha doesn’t like being drenched in water as soaking it in makes her skin susceptible to tearing or breaking.
- Her tissues grow out, which is the reason she can cut and style them — her tissues regenerate over the span of a month, sometimes shedding on their own.
- Though she doesn’t like to show it, she has an uncanny ability to soap buds. Sometimes, when she coughs, a couple of bubbles come out and she plays it off like nothing happened. She thinks it’s distasteful.
- Tisha’s favorite food before Gardenview shut down was fresh fruit, specifically berries. After the shutdown, she settled for jams.
FossilCleaning:
- Shelly & Tisha are by no means a perfect couple, but they’ll stick with each other through thick and thin. They occasionally bicker or fight, but at the end of the day they’ll stick together because they.
- The two struggle with their self worth for different reasons (Shelly being constantly outshined and others putting her down, Tisha being reduced to nothing but Gardenview’s sole and only cleaner), but they help to see each other for something more.
- Both are socially awkward for different reasons: Shelly struggles to socialize, as she’s terrible at small talk and nobody takes interest in her special interest. Tisha, however, gets avoidant, frustrated, or just a buzzkill, especially when toons only come to her for favors.
- They’re both emotionally dependent on each other, especially in a time where it feels like nobody will listen to them. (Obviously, yes, other toons are willing to listen to them but not on the same level as they do for each other)
- Shelly often helps out Tisha, since it’s time for them to spend together. Even though Tisha knows she’d probably get it done faster by herself, she lets Shelly help her because: 1, she’s eager to help; 2, she’s the only one that she’ll allow to help out — anyone else she may snap at; 3, it’s a weird way for them to bond.
- Shelly also knows exactly how Tisha wants things cleaned — she needs to in order to preserve her sanity.
- They’re both neurodivergent in my eyes. (I don’t care if I’m projecting they ARE!!!)
- Even though they have separate rooms, Shelly often sleeps over at Tisha’s room because she doesn’t like sleeping alone. Because Tisha is constantly surrounded by filth, her room is supposed to be her clean “safe haven.” Shelly, unintentionally, always drags in something that freaks out Tisha — she’s kicked Shelly out a few times but overtime she just accepted that Shelly will be messy and that’s okay.
- Shelly especially came to Tisha after Shanon left, scared to wake up and see another person left her when she couldn’t say goodbye.
- Also, Tisha becomes less compulsive to clean up every single mess as her and Shelly’s relationship goes on.
- It took them a month to tell everyone else at Gardenview that they were in a relationship — mostly because of Shanon’s discouragement, which made them think others wouldn’t accept it. (AGAIN, SHANON ISN’T HOMOPHOBIC. SHE WAS TRYING PROTECT THEM!!) But fortunately, nobody cares if they were dating or not because they’re too busy with Gardenview’s shutdown & fighting for their lives.
- “Oh you two are dating? Well, ok, but I was asking if you’d go on a supply run.”
- They go on weekly dates: walking around Gardenview’s decaying remains, chattering, movie nights, sleepovers, cooking/baking together.. they value quality time.
Twisted Fossilcleaning:
- (For this one I’m going to do two scenarios — Shelly twisting first v. Tisha twisting first) also CW for violence + mentions of suicide
- Shelly, despite everyone’s warnings and what the group knows, still craves answers about Gardenview and whatever happened. Most importantly, she desperately wants to get Shanon back. With her head foggy with grief, she acts impulsively and goes on a solo run at night.
- She understands that it’s a suicide mission, that this is too much of a risk — but by the time that realization sets in, she’s far too deep in the run to turn back now. Shelly goes through a couple floors, finally finding Shanon’s note — someplace she knew she’d find something. Something that confirmed she was abandoned, maybe not willingly but still abandoned by the first person she trusted.
- She found something at the cost of her life. She doesn’t remember what happened after she found the note, or who was following her before she was ambushed. All Shelly knows now is that her body’s mutated. Those resentful feelings she’d since long repressed finally free to manifest into her very form.
- The morning Tisha wakes up, everything is off. Shelly’s gone and the room was hastily cleaned, like she was covering her tracks. Tisha spent all morning trying to find Shelly before narrowing it down to one option — she went deeper into the facility.
- Begging and pleading to join the next supply run, Tisha’s anxious, less focused on the run and more focused on Shelly. She’s checking each and every corner, looking for the slightest clue of her girlfriend. Tisha’s so deep in her search, she doesn’t realize she’s holding back her team with her missed skillchecks, or miscalculated boosts.
- So deep in her search, she turned a blind eye to the possibility that Shelly found her first.
- Tisha felt weak seeing her become this monster, a creature of hate wearing what was the husk of her own sweet Shelly. So weak, Tisha couldn’t bring herself to react. She didn’t run, she didn’t fight, just frozen as Shelly charged her.
- The rest of the team made it out alive, unfortunate to announce the two new casualties that would never resurface from Gardenview.
ok now its tisha time ☺️ heavy cw for suicidal ideations + violence
- The facility was rotting, there was no denying that. It was commonly known that ichor was draining from the machines into the lower floors, causing ichor leaks when traversing deeper into Gardenview, but sometimes, with ichor no where else to go, it’d start seeping into the upper levels.
- At first, it was a pipe bursting here or there, but soon, it became a major issue. With ichor leaks, it attracted twisteds towards the surface level floors — where toons thought they should be safe.
- Originally, the job was left solely to Tisha because.. well, she cleans. However, reports of twisteds made the job only the more serious. Groups of toons would ward twisteds to lower floors, essentially clearing them out for Tisha to work on them.
- Sure, some toons would help Tisha out, get their hands dirty here and there, but Tisha was working day and night to keep the ichor at bay.
- Sometime, on floor which the twisteds had been warded off, Tisha diligently worked to clean these floors and get them back in order. She’d been working for hours, letting her guard down to focus on her work.
- But the team didn’t their job, a twisted still lurked in the shadows, stalking the one cleaner on the site. When it eventually emerged, it went straight for her.
- Tisha was knocked off balance, crashing into the counter and suffering a severe head injury. This injury was enough to give her major issues with brain function.
- Tisha, unable to fend her own against this twisted, lost her life.
- Her body was found by Shelly, who was bringing her water when she hadn’t returned for hours, thinking her girlfriend was overworking herself. She found the twisted mauling on her corpse, knocking it unconscious with the bucket Tisha had been using.
- When Shelly inspected Tisha’s body, she tried desperately to find any sign anything that meant she was alive.
- Unsure what to do, Shelly brought Tisha to the higher floors.
- For hours, nobody knew what to do. Tisha’s body remained in the infirmary as the group decided what to do while Shelly remained by her side.
- At the dead of night, Tisha shuffled beside Shelly, waking her up to see that her supposedly dead girlfriend was up, but irresponsive. Tisha didn’t recognize anything, just working off her first instinct to clean.
- Protocol told Shelly that if given the chance to kill a twisted, she should. Afterall, it’d prevent more casualties and keep the group safe. She should’ve grabbed something and finished the job, but she couldn’t bring herself to.
- Guiding Tisha out the infirmary, Shelly tried to talk and reason with her, but it wasn’t working — she could barely look at Shelly. With no luck, Shelly had to let Tisha go.
- She guided Tisha to the elevator, sending her to the lower floors. She couldn’t tell anyone that she let Tisha go, but she couldn’t explain that Tisha’s corpse just disappeared.
- Toons could only assume that Shelly locked herself in Tisha’s room, but nobody dared to interfere (afraid that space is what she needed) until a week passed. At that point, the door was bust down to find Shelly.
- Shelly blamed herself for not getting there sooner. She couldn’t handle that she essentially lost her everything.
tldr: one twists and the other dies 🤣🤣😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭😭💔💔
