I have tried to find words all day to describe or interpret you, your legacy and our relationship. I have learned over the last three years that differences have to be put aside and that life is a precious gift that can be taken away instantly. Bret Byers, you were a dedicated and committed man to so many different aspects of your life.....sure, you were my boss and that's what everyone from Quaker will talk about, how unwavering and frequently harsh of aĀ manager you were but you always wanted the best for all of us because you were in the business of making money (literally always said that and it drove me crazy).....but screw your job man, you were absolutely, irrefutably obsessed and proud to be a FATHER and most importantly a kick ass GRANDPA (I bought him that shirt and even when I was mad at him, I will still hold true to that being one of the best gifts I have ever given). I have personally had conversations with you about each one of those amazing girls: Brittany, Brianna, and little Olivia. You were a proud doting father who loved both of his daughters very very much. Remember that. You were madly in love with Olivia.....I laughed with you the day you showed me the ultrasound of her flipping the bird and I cried with you the day she was born because the pure innocence of your excitement for the birth of that little beauty.....that is a love that I hope every person gets to feel for another. Bret, you were and always will be a memorable boss of mine. You taught me everything I know about bartending before I even began training and I will never change a beer keg or pour a Bud without thinking about you and laughing my ass off. You tray surfed through the kitchen, broke a bench in the middle of the lobby and you have echoed your laughter throughout the garage doors of Quaker for years to come. I will not let anyone forget you Bret Byers. Whatever version of an afterlife for sure has a never ending supply of Budweiser for you. Rest in peace man.
