Tanukis do have large scrotums, but their testicles are not really that big. In Japanese folklore, these canids are depicted with such massive gonads; however, this has nothing to do with sexual power or anything like that. The reason why, asides from the “big balls” joke, is that “kin no tama”(”small bag of gold”) and “kintama” (testicles) are so phonetically similar that tanuki ‘fluffs’ are nowadays related to good fortune.
