Royalty AU

                     There is a silence in the hall as the prince looks up to his parents— the king and queen of a powerful trading nation— and begs them to reconsider. Yuuji is still so young at only nineteen years old they can’t expect him to marry yet; there are so many places the traveling prince has yet to see and explore but his parents hold fast in their decision and when Yuuji lacks the energy to argue with them anymore they pile on the rest of the details.

                      He is to leave the next day for the capital of the Shiratorizawa empire and meet his betrothed there. Neither the king now queen will tell him about who they have him marrying and that puts a vein of icy dread in his spine not knowing who is going to be forced into his life.

“Oh, yeah, I…I can give them back if you want.” He replies rather sheepishly, having hoped the other would notice the amount of his sweatshirts and things that had mysteriously disappeared the past couple of days. Obviously his luck hadn’t held out, and now the alpha was aware of what he’d been doing and he was getting rather flustered now he’d been found out.

“I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to take all of them.” He mumbles, ducking his head in embarrassment. “They just smell really nice, is all.”

               Terushima shakes his head and smiles fondly. “It’s fine babe,” he leans in and kisses Asahi’s cheek before tucking his nose in against Asahi’s neck. He wants only for the omega to be comfortable in their house. 

 ”If you need anything else I could scent it for you?” he offers, “Or I could come lay down with you? Only if you want me too of course,”

          The pillow in his arms is pulled close to his chest for a heartbeat before being set back on the couch; there is no need for shields when Yuuji is with Tendou. 

         “Yeah,” he responds plainly with a small nod as he admits to his jacket based thievery. “I thought they wouldn’t be missed since its getting warmer out... I can return them though.”

His heart sits heavy in his throat as Terushima turns back to Asahi. He wants to wrap the other up in his arms and never let him go. “I won’t leave,” he coos, returning to the couch and seating himself near— but not too close to— Asahi. He listens to the other, drawing one of his knees up against his chest, and feels his chest grow tighter.

“You’re doing what you thought was best, I can’t be upset about that. You’re trying to make me happy…” he smiles weakly, looking away from Asahi as he feels pinprick heat in his eyes. “I miss you so much. The apartment is too quiet without you,”

A rather choked laugh escapes at the remark, because he honestly can’t imagine quiet when it comes to Terushima-although it hurts, too, because he knows he’s the reason for that, that he’s hurt him so badly in trying to make things better. He feels so selfish, asking him to stay after all that, after how badly he’s screwed things up, he just can’t handle watching him walk out that door right now, he’s now strong enough for that.

“You should be upset about it, I-I…I almost wish you were mad at me.” He mumbles, voice tight as he fidgets with his fingers, looking down at them and reaching out after a moment to curl them into the sleeve of Teru’s sweatshirt. “You shouldbe mad at me, I keep messing up, I keep hurting you, a-and you keep telling me it’s okay and it isn’t. I don’t want you to stick with me just because y-you’re supposed to…”

"When have I ever done what I'm suppose to?" he looks down to the fingers holding his sleeve and can't help but move to hold them in his own. Terushima makes sure his grip is soft— the other boy can pull away without any effort if he wants to— and feather light as he runs his thumb over the back of Asahi's hand. "I don't do this because I feel obligated or because I'm suppose to. I'm here because I want to be, I want to see you happy because, I know it shounds cheesy, but that makes me happy too." he squeezes Asahi's hand— only for a heartbeat, fast enough to be missed— as he looks away from the other.

Issei looked over the other male and let out a sigh, shaking his head as he sat down beside the hospital bed. “Well, they’re missing out on some amazing HOSPITALity.” Emphasizing the one part of the word, Issei chuckled and reached over to place one of his hands over both of Terushima’s.

                    Yuuji scoffs at the frankly terrible pun. “That’s so bad Issei,” he leans back into his pillows, unable to help a soft smile on his face as he squeezes the other’s hand with his own. He is tempted to pull the other closer, craving contact, but settles for holding Issei’s hand firmly in his own.

                    “But really... I’m glad you’re here. It’s nice to see you. It’s been too long since we saw each other.”

“Of course I’m worried about you. I just want to help you,” he crosses his arms across his chest tighter as if it could protect himself or hold in his feelings to keep them from spilling away and causing trouble. “That’s all I ever wanted, you accepting my help. If it was soothing you after a bad dream or making a box to help you feel better it’s all I’ve ever wanted from you.” he steels himself, tucking his hands into the pockets of his sweater as he takes a deep breath. Staying here and seeing Asahi hurts. It’s a reminder of what he couldn’t keep, what he failed to keep close.

“I should go…” he adds softly, looking towards to door. Terushima feels a knot in his stomach, knowing he’s just making both of their pain worse by staying.

“But you shouldn’t have to, Teru, you should…you deserve better than that.” He insists because it’s exactly how he feeling, all he can think is that he can’t possible worth every bit effort the other’s put into him, into what they had, he’d been so certain that he could be everything that Asahi needed when all he could think was that he could have had so much more and he was stuck dealing with this. He bites down on his lip a little harder, fighting to keep his pleas to himself, to let him leave and maybe he’d eventually be okay-

“Don’t.” He blurts before he can manage to stop himself, and he’s practically trembling from head to toe at this point because the words are exactly the opposite of what he’d meant to say but he can’t stop them from falling from his lips. “P-please, don’t leave, Teru, I’m sorry I’m…I’m so selfish, when you’ve been so nice to come here, you should h-hate me, but I…I-I don’t want you to go.”

                           He wants only to drop the box in his hands and wrap Asahi in his arms. He feels the shift in his chest as the other sees him. If it’s a feeling of pleasure or pain Terushima can’t tell. 

                          “I can still feel how upset you are,” he tries to keep his voice from wavering, from shaking with pain as he sets down the box he brought with him on the corner of the couch closest to him and farthest from Asahi. “I brought this for you,“ he steps back, briefly gesturing to the box he’d been holding a moment before. “So you feel better,“ 

                          “Don’t apologize for that,“ somehow he sounds angry even on the verge of tears. “It was never anything I didn’t deal with in good grace,“ he looks away— Asahi leaving still hurts like a fresh wound, something he shouldn’t have agitated so early by visiting— and crosses his arms over his chest. “You’ve never needed to apologize to me,”

“I know you can, I…” He’s about to apologize again but he’s distracted by the box Teru’s set down, immediately recognizing the comfy blanket, the sweatshirt  that he’d ‘borrowed’ on more than a few occasions that was almost ridiculously big on Teru but he’d always found cozy and he’s sure he knows that-

Of course he does, he’s always been so gracious, so stupidly nice and helpful and good and Asahi’s just…Asahi.

“But I do, I…I’ve been hurting you Teru.” He whispers quietly, wringing his hands as he forces his gaze back down onto his feet. It makes sense, doesn’t it, so why isn’t Terushima more upset with him for it, why is he so…accepting after how much he obviously hurt him? He draws his bottom lip between his teeth when he realizes it’s trembling, turning his head away entirely. “And I still am, obviously, but you’re still worried about me.
