this is an awk question to answer bc its gonna be hard to not talk about him w/o sounding so biased, esp since he’s my bias?? but i’ll try my best to answer.

as what i can think of rn, the biggest reason why ppl tend to hate on him is bc he said the n-word and made a colourist comment towards hoseok and taehyung on camera. he did apologize for saying the n-word (but many ppl believe that it wasnt sincere enough), and he kinda? sorta? indirectly apologized for the colourist comment on twitter after getting death threats. but other than that he’s an awesome guy.

like aside from the problematic things he’s said a lot of ppl dont like him bc he’s simply not as cute as the other members, which i think is silly, bc they’re missing out on a really great guy

Okay Firsted of all, none of this makes up for all the shit he’s done. And dont say he “indirectly apologized for it” on twitter. Unless he specifically apologizes for that shit, im not forgiving him. Not to mention it took threats on his life for him to even say anything on it at all. Number B, most of this list are fucking physical attributes. Like just bc he may be attractive (to yall, bc tbqh no tea no shade he look like ET to me) doesnt make his personality any less awful. *lifts sleeves* Rap monster is book smart, not people smart (not an excuse for all the shit he does though). Forget the physical attributes and his smartness and that for a moment, and let’s actually look at kim namjoon:  This boy has been through everything you can imagine, people called him “less than a rapper” because he became an idol rapper, they made fun of him because of his lyrics (that he spends hours and hours writing). He’s had (and probably still does) confidence issues, because as we all know, people don’t generally bias him (He told a fan at a fan meeting that now that she had practiced on him, she could go meet her real bias) and if that doesn’t break your heart, i don’t know what will. He tries his hardest to be the cool guy, but we all know he’s not. he’s that guy that thinks so much it turns into pessimism, he’s that guy that wants people to care so much, to look so great in the eyes of others that he ends up being stupid. He’s that awkward guy that has all the abilities to do things but can.not.function.in.real.life. You don’t have to love him, you really don’t. just please acknowledge that he is doing the most and more so that Bangtan gets places, he was willing to sacrifice his (at the time) non existent career for those six boys. And he’s only 21.

And regarding all the stupid shit he’s done, no mater how bad what he says is, there is no reason for people to threaten his life. Absolutely none. I don’t think you guys realize how scary it is to be a celebrity, and to have to go to a concert (anywhere really) and fear that you might not come back home because someone made an open threat to your life on the internet. It is hella fucking scary. I am black, and i was greatly offended by all the stupid things he’s said over the years, but I’ve come to realize that not every country and society has the same values and things they look out for. It’s normal for a Korean to tell another one “you’re dark” (that does make it okay but it’s part of every day life). Korean society is still closed off to Black people, so it’s not a shock for them to use certain terms without really thinking of the connotation said words have. The less contact you have with a certain type of people, the less you realize that what you say hurts them. It’s okay to be angry, and you really don’t have to bias him, or love him for that matter, just recognize that cultural differences play such a big role on the way people interact at an international level, and not being educated about this makes communication even worse. Nobody batted an eyelash when he said he speaks black simply because no one understood that you don’t say that. if he were in america, he would have been explained that. For those of us who know, we know Namjoon isn’t that kind of person. He’s educated and generally pretty open (within constraints of the upbringing he’s received). And you forget he taught himself english, which i’m sorry to say was probably through the medium of Rap. How do you think he;s going to speak? I learned English in the North, and therefore have an accent characteristic to the Northeast. My friends back home also speak like that when they speak english because people learn english from rap, and then proceed to speak like the rappers (who are primarily black).

@zeurin explained certain cultural differences about Yoongi and being lazy while being hardworking at the same time a while ago and i don’t think she could have said it better. IF YOU ARE GOING TO STAN A GROUP/ARTIST FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY, YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT THEIR REALITIES ARE DIFFERENT FROM YOUR REALITIES. And despite you educating yourself, (which he wouldn’t even have time to do, as we all know) there is no way to throw out 21 years of conditioning. Trust me.

I guess what i’m trying to say is, while he is very problematic, we can’t just assume it’s because he’s a  horrible person, and while he isn’t the best looking or even the coolest in BTS, he’s a hardworking person, who has given up lots and lots to be where he is, so let’s try and give the guy some appreciation, because even if you don’t like him, you gotta recognize that the hare runs faster than you.

And yes I am Namjoon based, but I tried to be as objectively biased as possible, while this turned into a rant. I’m sorry.
