Sometimes you have to get creative: 1. Adding the aurhor line in the side image so I can show the main image in full 2. Decisively not titling this piece, by drawing attention to the title within the text 3. Centering visually (its tougher than it looks) 4. Had to figure a way to show the full framed piece - I LOVE getting to design a work through to completion! We had an event at the Gallery the other night, one of the few preceding our current exhibit opening, that included creating something in our Art Bar, with an RSVP list, so I decided the night before to make them something extra they could keep. I love the buttons I get from Cheerio every year and this made me REALLY appreciate the time and planning that goes into making them! All are placed properly upright, by the way, so the initials may be canted, but the names are easily legible. Now that these have been awarded, I can show them :) I got to make 4 certificates, fairly simple visually, but tougher than they look! Each is included for specific reasons if you care to know them, read on. . . I was given a basic format to design and have ready for "fill-in" and framing as soon as voting was done, to be delivered the next day. (Put a pin in that.) I had them lined up and ready, but had no clue the titles were going to be SO LONG on most of them! I had to scrap the way I was going to do the titling, switch to a sans serif Roman and re-line the fill-in area (all text in blue) to accommodate for the extra long titles. The first image shows a lot of the reworked ruling for the longest title. The second image shows another with all the ruling intact, including the spacing by which the logo was set. Also, if you look closely, these two show where I estimated my centering line was going to be, and where it actually ended up, a half inch to the left. The third image is all cleaned up, free of ruled lines, though faint traces will always remain, otherwise you risk compromising the lettering itself. The fourth image is completed and framed with a spacer around the edge to keep the glass off the art, since there is no mat. Framing isn't so bad. Each one takes about 30-45 minutes. The reworking and lettering took awhile. Oh, back to that "pin" from earlier, I didn't get the titles and recipients names until after midnight and they were due the next day!! Yeah, . . . that was a LONG night, and I still had to be at work the next day.
