this was a joyful day and thaldan was happy to divulge in that. the group was back together again when it seemed impossible for them to reunite. an odd feeling weighed on his chest despite the happiness around him. his eyes stared out at the group as he casually sipped at his ale. his mind grasping at everything he was feeling. and everything it shouldn’t be. he could make very little sense of it all.

his words were a surprise and a relief. she’d been mildly making a slight at him and his confusing lineage, but he’d only responded with a helpful reassurance. “i am glad of that, all i can see above us are rotting death traps and what must be goblin dens.”
the elf’s eyes traveled up to what she was referring to, and it seemed like this place was infested with both. “if we’re smart we will be able to avoid both of those. that is also if luck is on our side. and right now to me, it seems like we left our luck up on that cliffside.” he sighed. “so, we might just have to rely on our smarts then.”

wistria felt the fabric dance in the wind, trapped between her fingers like it was struggling for a way out. she was sat on a rock, patiently standing by while they all got their strength back. she had sustained some nasty wounds from the goblins, especially along her back, but allyria’s magic had helped. “ i ripped your shirt, ” she spoke when he sounded near enough. wistria was becoming better at discerning who was who depending on their footsteps, and she was sure it was thaldan who approached. “ not on purpose, it got caught on a rock. i saved most of it. ”
the woman was....very strange. thaldan wasn’t sure how to put it into words though. he’d seen plenty of odd and strange things in his life but wistria was something else. but at the end of the day she practically saved their ass with that bear transformation. he was happy to have her around now. “it’s your shirt now. you don’t have to worry. if you need something else i can see what i can get for you.” he said. “how are you feeling though?”

“ perhaps it is not the time to be amazed, but this is my first time entering a dwarven mine, ” they found themselves in a disastrous situation, and yet elas could not shake his curiosity for the old mining equipment. he leaned over, peeking into a rotting cart that held more rotting metal. “ how long do you reckon it has been abandoned ? ”
“it is something beautiful isn’t it?” thaldan said gazing around. he remembered that first time walking into a mine like this with some of his traveling companions. all of them being dwarves, they didn’t think much of it but thaldan was amazed by it all. much like how elas was now. “probably hasn’t been used in....gods, hundred years? more? i doubt anyone has been inside of it probably since before either of us were around.”

To say that Wulf was not a fan of trudging through the mines would be an understatement. He’d spent most of his childhood living under the stars, and most of his adulthood in buildings that at least had windows. The abandoned mines were stuffy at best, the air feeling close and humid, no natural light to guide their way.
So, in effort to cheer himself up, Wulf decided he’d stick close to Thaldan for a bit as they walked. His arms had gotten scraped up in his tumble over the cliff, some of his ink obscured, but he’d have to make do.
D I D you see me in the F I G H T ? He gestured. I T O O K O U T 2 G O B L I N S ! Beaming, Wulf mimed a spear thrust. I have N E V E R done that B E F O R E ! It was S C A R Y !
this was less than ideal. being separated like this was the last thing this team needed. their strength would come from them being together. thaldan could only worry about what the others must be thinking, seeing them fall like that. what theo was thinking. he shook those thoughts aside as he continued through the mines. he knew these mines and where they could lead, he hoped. he was going by his gut and what the dwarves had taught him. but he was going to get them out of here.
as they walked he noticed wulf trying to grab his attention and he watched carefully as he spelt out his words. luckily it was completely pitch black within the mines. "ahhh yes, i did see that." he said, clapping wulf on the back. "it was a good clean hit. you're learning fast." he said, almost with a proud smile. however it quickly turned into a smirk as he leaned in closer. "word of advice though, try not almost falling off the cliff next time? takes away some of the style of the fight."

“you are much like a dwarf, perhaps you can lead us out of here.”
“i can certainly try to. all mines are different but many share at least some similarties in their design.” he said looking around. “this one is old....but i will do my best. don’t worry, i’ll find us a way out of here.” he said, trying to reassure her.

elas did not remotely consider that they would get into a situation where they would be ( not for the first time ) needing to negotiate the freedom of their friend. he should have learned his lesson with wulf, but he did not imagine that the situation could repeat itself within the lost entlands. so, elas spent more than he should have while they were preparing supplies in gilder. he had already counted the money. he pressed his lips together, shaking his head with an air of regret. “ i have 1,301 in gold, 80 in silver. i am about seven-hundred short. ”
this all seemed way out of hand. how could whoever took the hobbit even know they had money? unless somehow they were followed. people from the village maybe still upset with them? it was unsettling to him how quickly they caught back up with them if that was the case. “i’ve got a few hundred i can throw in. but it isn’t much.” he sighed. “did you get any sort of look at these people? anything helpful?”

Luc squawked, barely catching himself from falling. “Why would I be working for them? Don’t you think I have standards?” He huffed, straightened his shirt, and pushed Thaldan back with a hand on his chest. “Kidnapping innocents from a group like this and demanding a ransom? I don’t have a deathwish.”
"no, i don't know you so i don't even know if you have standards. you suddenly show up at our camp and now one of OUR members goes missing. i think that is a little more just suspicious." he said stumbling back a few steps as he pushed him back. "you just might be stupid enough to do that. give me one good reason to trust you! just one."

“i had no intention to rush you,” her tone is calm as she approaches the man, eyes briefly flicking towards the fog before returning to his face. “i’d merely wished to offer a bit of tea, something that might help soothe your mind a bit?”
“right...right i apologize.” maybe the stress of this was getting to him more than he thought it was. he shouldn’t be snapping at his own team before anything happened. “tea actually sounds wonderful.”

she was indignant about the monk discovering her true identity. she did not hide that she found it annoying, no longer being able to disguise herself as the fox. the body of the animal showed to be of more help than her real body in the forest, though she knew that to have the trust of the company that she could no longer hide behind the eyes of an animal. all she had was her blue cape, and she had no preference when it came to what she wore underneath. when the young elf came into view, her eyes lingered on him.
“ i need clothes, ” she suddenly spoke, looking at the state of his. “ if you have some to spare, i need to dress underneath this cape. ”
thaldan was not really sure what there was to say to her. what does one say to someone who they thought was an animal this whole time. oh gods, did he ever do something stupid infront of her? he couldn't remember. he just hoped that he didn't change or anything weird like that.
when she turned to look at him, staring he opened his mouth to say something but thankfully she said something first. "uh....right. i'm sure i have something that could work." thaldan said grabbing his bag. digging through it he found at least one bigger shirt that could cover her. "i believe my pants might be a bit big on you."

the mist of the forest is thick, twining around their feet as it draws them deeper into the forest, into their search. théodore, more and more recently, finds himself wishing he might simply choke on it ; the thought fleeting, but pressing in on him just as the weight of the past few days continues to press down on his shoulders. he wonders if perhaps he is atlas, crumbling, guilt for what’s happened seeping into his very bones. but his companion’s low voice pulls him out of his thoughts, dark eyes sweeping the mist to swing up and meet the warrior’s own. ❛ i am ––– ❜ he speaks, but it is halting, crippling uncertainty crawling up his throat, closing it around his words. ❛ it does not matter how i am. how are you ? ❜
thaldan wasn't sure if he needed theo to answer that question to know the answer to it. he could see the weight of it dragging his shoulders down. his entire being down. it had become clear very earlier on that theo was the type of leader to take the wellbeing of everyone on his back, which was a good trait to have. but in scenarios like this thaldan could see the repercussions of it "it matters to me how you're doing.” he said but quickly added on. “you know...or else i wouldn’t have asked you.” what the hell was he saying? it mattered to him? what sort of flowery bullshit was that? thaldan had to hold back from rolling his eyes at his own words. maybe theo would just ignore of idiot that just sounded and go with it. "i'm doing alright. we'll get everyone back and then we will be back right on course. what trips doesn't have a few bumps in it?"

“so far you have done very little to prove it,” she replied, her gaze fixed defiantly on the horizon, “stumbling around in the mist will do no good. they have provided us with an ultimatum and we should take it. we need to do this peacefully to assure she does not get hurt.”
“i am looking for them, for any trace of them i can find.” he corrected her. “sure, we can take their ultimatum. but how do we not know they won’t kill her the second we give them our money? hmm? i say if we can find their camp we get in there and get her out. we got very lucky that last we dealt with a group. we might not be so lucky this time.”

“rosalyn is my friend and i will continue to sulk until she is back in my arms!” she hissed at him in disbelief, “i am going to pay those men what they asked for and i am going to get her back. no thanks to your jokes!”
“is she not mine as well?” he asked before letting out a sigh. “fine. i will remain sulking and depressed like the rest of you. just because i am not crying in a corner does not mean i don’t care. i’ve been out in that fog searching as best as i can.”

her eyes ignited with a fire of hatred, “lighten the mood? one of our friends has been taken captive! the only thing to do is solve the issue at hand, dark mood and all. your jokes will not save her life!”
“and it is easier to solve the issue at hand if everyone isn’t depressively sulking in the corner.” he said. “sitting around moping will not save her life either. we are both fighting for the same thing here.”

fighting the urge to roll his eyes at her comment, he scoffed instead. “come on allyria. i’m just trying to lighten the mood here a bit. nothing is going to be solved with everyone sulking.”
it seemed like the past few weeks this team couldn't catch a break. and for some reason, thaldan couldn't help but keep thinking of theo. he worried that maybe he was taking this pretty hard. still even as he wandered over to him he was unsure what to say. "you....doing alright?"

after finding the note, thaldan was not taking any chanced. how did they know that this man wasn't part of this whole thing? he was going to find out once and for all. standing up suddenly, thaldan charged luc shoving him back. "you working for them? huh? where are they keeping her? you better start talking."
