I’d love to read it from you please
Say it.
Summary: f!MC is so in love with Sebastian it hurts, so - for her own health - she avoids him. He's not happy about it.
It had gotten to a point where it was actually painful for her to be around Sebastian.
Each time he looked her way, her heart would skip a beat and her chest ached. Every time his fingertips brushed hers as she handed him potions ingredients, her head would swim and she’d have to cling onto the table to remain upright.
And if he smiled at her, Merlin forbid, if he smiled at her… everything else in the room would fade away. She could fall down three flights of stairs - and had once - because his smile made all her sense disappear.
Being around him was actually detrimental to her health.
So, MC began to avoid him. At first, she thought that only spending time with Sebastian whilst Ominis was there would be enough of a buffer for her... but it wasn’t. The butterflies in her stomach still buzzed nauseatingly each time he laughed, or spoke, or breathed.
Somehow, he hadn’t noticed the way she blushed every time he said her name, or how she would trip over her feet if their shoulders brushed while they were walking. Sebastian was completely, utterly, entirely, oblivious to her feelings.
That, or, he very clearly didn’t reciprocate. And so, in order to get over her infatuation and move on, she had to avoid him.
With Ominis out of the equation, MC found herself spending more time with Garreth Weasley. He was funny and handsome, sure, but their relationship felt entirely closer to being siblings than anything more - making him the perfect, neutral, person to hang out with.
To start with, she only hung out with the Gryffindor in the evenings. MC told Sebastian it was to help with her Potions assignments (which wasn’t a lie) and he didn’t question it. It was such a relief to not spend the entirety of her evenings feeling as though her heart may explode.
Then, she started sitting with Garreth at dinner too, because that was only natural, right? They were spending the evening together anyway. Then it was breakfast as well because she just automatically drifted toward their table without thinking about it.
After a few weeks, MC had perfectly calculated her schedule so that the only time she’d see Sebastian was during DADA. Most of that was spent duelling anyway, and it was hard to feel utterly lovesick when trying to deflect confringo.
Sebastian, however, had noticed her absence. Not only had he noticed, but he had noticed that it was deliberate.
“What does she see in Weasley anyway?” He mumbled to Ominis, for the fifth time that day.
He ripped apart his bread roll as he spoke, squeezing and mangling it as he imagined it to be Garreth’s head.
“He’s a Gryffindor, for Merlin’s sake,” He shoved more bread into his mouth, “And he’s got no idea how to treat a girl. He’s probably just using her as a guinea pig for his potions. It’s not right!”
He slammed his fist onto the table, causing most of the Slytherin table to turn and look at him. He ignored them, grabbing another bread roll and tearing it into more chunks.
“I bet he doesn’t even take her out on dates, either. She should be showered with gifts and quality time and I know he’s completely oblivious to that. Weasley doesn’t have a speck of chivalry in those bones, I bet-”
“Sebastian!” Ominis hissed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “You’re clearly in love with the girl!”
Sebastian sat dumbly with his mouth, full of bread, open.
“Wha-?” He sighed, quickly chewing and swallowing it down.
“I can’t bear to listen to you complain anymore. Go talk to her! Tell her how you feel or, I swear on my Aunt’s grave, I shall do it for you to get rid of this incessant headache you’re giving me.”
He stared at Ominis, tightening his jaw as he chewed over his words.
“I should confront her about it. Make her admit she loves Weasley.”
“What?” Ominis said, stunned, “How on Earth was that what you took from what I said?”
But Sebastian was already rising from his seat, brushing the crumbs from his lips and storming over to the Gryffindor table. Ominis put his head in his hands and listened carefully for the upcoming explosion.
MC knew someone was coming from the way Leander was looking behind her. Garreth turned around in his seat, before looking back to MC with wide eyes.
“I think Sebastian Sallow is coming to murder you,” He whispered.
MC spun around just as Sebastian came to the table. Her chest ached and her stomach flipped just the same as it always had.
“MC, I need to talk to you.”
He was clenching and unclenching his fists at his sides. MC swallowed and prayed her face wasn’t turning as red as it felt, but held her ground.
“I’m eating, Sebastian, can’t it wait until I’m done?” She turned back to her food, picking up her fork to punctuate her sentence.
“No, actually, it can’t.”
Leander let out a low whistle and his bowl of soup suddenly became very interesting.
“It will have to, I’m afraid,” MC spat back, trying desperately to stop her head from spinning. His dark eyes were just as pretty as-
No! No, stop thinking about it.
“I’m studying with Garreth tonight, so I’ll be busy after dinner too. Sorry,” She said, hating how heartless she sounded.
It was the only way, however, to protect her health. Spending more than a minute around Sebastian was already making her lose her senses. Her hands itched to reach out to his, to smooth out his fists and-
Stop it!
Her mind wasn’t her own when she was around him.
“Fine,” Sebastian said sternly, “You're in love with Weasley.”
“What?” Her and Garreth cried in unison.
“I want you to admit that you’ve been lying to me about all these ‘study sessions’ because I’m sick of it. You’re avoiding me because you’re in love with him. Admit it.”
People were starting to look now, and MC blushed under their stares.
“Would you keep your voice down,” She hissed, anger rising in her throat. “You have no idea what you’re talking about, Sallow.”
Leander nodded, “Honestly, mate, it’s true. They really do just study - I’ve seen them.”
“Shut up, Prewett,” Sebastian growled. “So why are you spending so much time with him then, if you’re not dating? Huh?”
MC swallowed, feeling the eyes on her as they waited for her response. She couldn’t do this here.
Without a word, she grabbed Sebastian by the wrist, ignoring the electricity that pulsed through her skin, and dragged him out of the Great Hall and into the gardens. The moment the door shut behind them and the whispers of the hall stopped, she let go of his hand and turned to face him.
“How dare you try and embarrass me like that?”
Sebastian scoffed, “Embarrass you? You’re the one embarrassing yourself by falling in love with that red-headed baboon!”
“I thought Garreth was your friend! And I’m not in love with him!” She yelled, throwing her hands into the air.
“So why have you been spending every waking hour with him then?” Sebastian folded his arms across his chest with a smug smile.
“Because I’m avoiding you!”
She hadn’t meant to say it. She had meant to create a clever excuse, one that would end the argument then and there, but his stupid smirk ripped all coherent thoughts from her head.
Sebastian frowned, “What?”
MC opened her mouth, willing words to come out, but she closed it again, her cheeks turning deep crimson.
He stared at her, his deep eyes trailing across every inch of her face with curiosity.
And then he realised.
It was as though a switch had been flipped in his head. He replayed every moment of theirs together: the way she’d stumble over her words when he spoke to her, and blush at every small touch. The way she bit her lip as he said her name, and tripped over her laces when he walked beside her to class.
MC shook her head, mistaking his silence for anger, and turned back around towards the door to the Great Hall. Sebastian grabbed her arm, spinning her back around before forcing her back against the wall. She let out a surprised gasp as he set his arm above her and smiled.
“Admit it,” He teased.
The scent of his cologne washed dizzyingly over her, and she held her breath to ensure she could think straight.
“I don’t fancy Garreth Weasley.”
Sebastian leaned forward, until his forehead was pressed against hers. MC thought her legs might give way there and then. Everything about him was intoxicating.
“I know,” He said smoothly, “So admit it. Admit you love me.”
His words stole the breath from her lungs and her eyes fluttered up to his. Her heart pounded as her hands found their own way to his chest. His heart raced just as fast beneath her touch.
“Sebastian-” She breathed, leaning forward into him.
Their lips brushed together, but he didn’t let her kiss him. Not yet.
“Say it,” He whispered.
The vibration of his words sent shivers down her spine. Her hands traced their way up his arms and to his neck. Her thumbs pressed against his jawbone and she yearned to close the gap between them.
“Say it.”
She felt his voice in his throat through her palms, and ripples of longing radiated down her arms.
“I-” MC started, letting her lips move against his.
“Yes?”
“I-”
“Keep going.”
“I love you, Sebastian.”
That was enough for him. He plunged his lips against hers, forcing her against the wall once again. She wrapped her arms around him, squeezing to bring him closer.
It was dirty. Desperate. Hungry.
He devoured her, making up for all the time they’d spent apart. Her release was instant, all the aching in her heart, the churning in her stomach, was swallowed up as his hands moved up and down her body, kneading at her skin like a starving man.
When they broke apart, breathless, flushed, erratic, they kept their foreheads together.
“Don’t ever avoid me again,” He mumbled, brushing her hair from her face.
After the awful mess left behind in the Potions classroom, and the splatters that now adorned her robes, MC stormed through the corridors shaking. Sharp had let her have it, scolding her so thoroughly after her potion literally exploded across her table, that MC was shocked she hadn't cried in front of the whole class.
The tears were stinging the backs of her eyes as she strode down the corridor and took the stairs. She just needed to get away, the awful realisation that was she was a failure burned in her belly, and the mammoth task of trying to keep up with her class mates was becoming all too much.
She heard someone call out her name behind her, but she didn't look back, shame colouring her cheeks. She hated being rude, but her chest was beginning to tighten and she thought she should get somewhere out of sight to ugly cry alone.
She approached huge double doors that led to the outside and she pulled them open, eager to seek escape. She hurried through and then skidded to a stop on the step as she stared out at the pelting rain flooding the stone courtyard. Her shoulders slumped, dejected.
The door creaked behind her and she felt someone join her on the step.
"Are you alright, MC?"
She looked up into a pair of green eyes, creased with concern. She was rather fond of Weasley, he always had a kind smile for her, and now she felt like they had something in common, because he too was an expert at destroying Potions lessons.
"Do you ever feel like a failure, Garreth?" She asked. She grimaced. "Like, you're never going to be any good."
"All the time," he said. He shrugged and his mouth slipped into a smile of acceptance. "Doesn't mean I stop trying though, one day, I'm sure I will get something right."
The corner of her mouth twitched upwards. "I wish I had your optimism."
"Hey, you're doing great!" He said. His hand moved as though he was going to put it on her shoulder, but he hesitated and drew back. "Considering you're new, I think you're doing really well. You beat Sallow in a duel, you've got the hang of charms, I hear you're pretty nippy on a broom too, and today, well...let's just say that these things happen sometimes. I've been here 5 years and I blow stuff up all the time! Try not to let it get you down."
She mulled over his words and some of the tension slid from her chest. She sighed and looked out at the pouring rain. "No nippy broom flights today," she said. She blushed and looked up at him shyly. "I was going to run off and wallow in my misery, but I can't even do that now. I suppose I could go back to my common room."
"Where did you want to go?"
She bit her lip. "It might sound silly, but sometimes I go up to the Owlrey for some peace. The view is lovely and I quite like the company of the birds."
He nodded, and then held out his arm for her to take. "Then allow me," he said, smiling.
She looked from him to the awful weather, and then back at him again. "Are you mad? We'll get soaked!"
His smile widened and he slipped his wand from his pocket. He twirled it so that it pointed skywards and muttered a charm. MC stared, her face immediately brightening as the spell created the illusion of an umbrella, the shape of it shifting and swirling much like the effect of the Disillusionment charm.
MC was delighted, especially when he moved out into the rain and she could see it hitting his charm and rolling over it to pour off the edge. Garreth was completely dry underneath. He stepped back up onto the step and offered her his arm again. "Shall we?"
She smiled, enchanted, forgetting about her potion failure and slipping her arm into his. As they walked across the courtyard she looked up at his umbrella charm and leaned in to his arm a little closer. "You will have to teach me this spell," she said. "It's rather handy."
"Of course!" He smiled down at her, pleased. "It's much better than getting wet."
