" NEIL IS ALIVE " as they dragged me into the asylum.
Charlie and Neil have been best friends since they were six. They’ve been attached at the hip since the day Neil moved into the same neighbourhood as Charlie despite Neil’s father not really approving of their friendship. They’re a terrible two-some; causing mischief wherever they go.
When Neil passes, Charlie doesn’t ever think he’ll ever have a best friend ever again. Until Todd Anderson worms his way into his life in a way he never expected him to. Though Todd is older, Charlie cares for him the way an older brother should; taking him under his wing. They’re best friends in a different way to how he was with Neil. They don’t cause mischief, but they’re incredibly close, joint at the hip in a similar way. It’s familiar yet different. They tell each other everything, Todd comes out to Charlie, Charlie comes out to Todd. There’s a trust there they don’t have with anyone else.
So yes, Neil was Charlie’s best friend. But Todd is as well. They’re two lost souls searching for something, and they find eachother. It goes beyond friendship, but it’s not romantic. They’re brothers in every way but biology.
And some people have the AUDACITY to call them straight. Never in my life my straightest friend looked at me like that. And if she did I would've kissed her.
(although I respect any opinions and you can see them as besties if you want, but for me they were actually married and Charlie was the priest)
