At the young werewolfâs words, the vampire chuckled childishly. âI am,â he said after a sigh, shrugging in defeat. After all, how could he fight that? She was certainly not wrong. When Cora attempted to explain what pop culture actually meant, Joshua paused to ponder on her words. âI guess you are right,â the vampyr decided after going through all his memories of occasions in which he had used or heard the words be used.
At the youngest Haleâs proposition, Joshua couldnât help a chuckle. âSounds very sneaky,â the vampire pointed out as a mischievous smirk overtook his features. âI like it.â Although he doubted he would be using it. He could never lie to Derek, theyâre whole friendship had began with the blunt truth, there was no point in it changing now. âBut I think I will take the honorable route and be honest with him,â the vampire shared with a firm nod. Derek did not deserve any less⊠regardless of how amusing conspiring with his sister was.
At Cora Haleâs argument, the vampire tensed up more. Her words did not lack wisdom, even if they did lack tact. âYou arenât wrong,â he agreed with a nod of his head. âBut those human cockroaches do always end up finding the grave they dug themselves,â the vampire told Cora, an air of secretiveness surrounding his words. After all, Joshua could not pretend to not be what he was. And ultimately, all vampyr kind were was Death incarnate. How many had he drained? How many had suffered at his wrathful hands? Could he even count them anymore? âBut if we focus on the negative, we would never be able to look towards the positive.â
âWait, hunt? Werewolves hunt? âŠ. why?â he found himself asking with an arched brow, looking at her with an incredulous look. Food was rarely hunted in the 21st century, and Joshua found it strange they would rather hunt and eat raw, freshly killed animals than to walk into a supermarket and buy some hamburgers.
It was the closest they could get to a definition of the term, and Cora was happy to settle for it. After all, it wasnât as if she talked about pop culture with anyone else so it could easily be their shorthand.  âIf itâs any consolation, though, you look pretty good for two thousand. Maybe a few wrinkles around the eyes,â she teased, âbut a good plastic surgeon could sort that right out for you. Not that there are any in Beacon Hills, I donât think, but you know what I mean.â
Cora nodded. Sneaky wasnât her forte, but at the end of the day she was still a younger sister whoâd had two older siblings. Her memories of that time were hazy and incomplete, but there was no doubt in her mind that sheâd hidden things from them for their own good back in the day.  âUgh, honorable,â she stuck her tongue out.  âThatâs no fun at all. Although Derek will like you even more for it, so itâs probably the right play.â Her brother was the stalwart and true sort, and Joshuaâs honesty would push all of the buttons that made him puff up and look proud.
âAnd if they donât,â she added in a quieter voice, âthereâs always someone around to help them find it.â Sheâd never taken an innocent life, but if the sorts of hunters that had once nearly ended their family line ever came back then she wouldnât hesitate to change the color of her eyes.  âI suppose thatâs true. Youâre a glass half full kind of guy, arenât you? I admire it.â It wasnât likely that sheâd ever share his point of view, but the world needed people like her who could balance out his optimism with her realism.
It was Coraâs turn to look confused. She wondered how Joshua had lived as long as he had without learning that.  âWeâre wolves,â she shrugged.  âItâs in our nature. Itâs a bonding experience for the pack, teaches the younger ones control. Itâs not as if we do it all the time, at least I donât, but I understand the pleasure in it.â
