Colby hated how Dolph’s excitement made his stomach do a flip and he ducked his head in an attempt to hide that fact. He held out his hand as Dolph wrote his number down on his palm, like an old tv sitcom or something. He shook his head as he took out his phone, moving to lean against the lockers. “There’s no way this will end well,” he muttered before he sent Dolph a text.
( text | ziggler, dolph | sent ) Hey it’s Colby. So uh…yeah. ( text | ziggler, dolph | sent ) Now you have my number.
Dolph waved goodbye to Colby as he started chatting with Natalya, making it to his next class before checking his phone and texting back underneath the desk.
[ text ] hey colbs! [ text ] is it cool if i call you that? :)
A quick text with his address and then the phone was put away for class. Dolph texted him on and off the next few days, schedule busy with cheer practice and hitting the gym ( and occasionally doing school work ). By the time his party rolled around, Dolph was fairly confident that Colby would show up. Confident enough that he didn’t get nervous when the party had gotten into full swing and the other male hadn’t arrived yet; shooting a quick text reminding him that his party had started an hour ago and there was plenty of booze and babes waiting for him.
idk i really like being called cute but i also really like hearing that you masturbate to the thought of me idk

drunk people are honest. or so she thinks the saying goes. she’d not quite sure but with dolph in her doorway it’s all she can really think. he smells like liquor and she can’t help but wrinkle her nose at her. tired eyes trying to blink away sleep as he babbles on and on.
‘ no shite. ’
her words aren’t too harsh but she doubts he’ll even remember them the next day. eyes rolling at him and hand resting on her hip in disapproval.
‘ ya wan’ta come in? ’
she grabs his hand before he can answer, if he can, and pulls him inside with her. shoving him towards her bed and onto it when they reach it. hands too soft and they help him take off his shoes and shirt.
‘ g’night ziggler ’
Dolph knew his limits — any responsible adult would have respected those limits, been mindful of them when he went out for what he swore would be just a few drinks. But Dolph was far from responsible and had treated his limits more like a challenge than anything.
How he ended up at Becky’s door was a mystery, but there he was, hammering on her door like he was the police serving up a search warrant; the door opened the same time as his mouth did, and nonsense started spilling out.
( Dolph was aware that, sober, he tended to ramble. He talked too much, some people would say — but, in Dolph’s mind, he just had a lot that needed to be said. Needed more words to articulate his feelings than the average person. But drunk? Once intoxicated, sober Dolph looked quiet. )
Stream of consciousness tumbling from his lips, he was interrupted by Becky, and even completely wasted he could sense the disapproval coming off of her in waves. He’d feel guilty tomorrow. Probably.
❝ If you wanted t’undress me, Becks, all you had to do was ask, ❞ Dolph slurred with a leer, though it was fleeting. Tugging Becky onto the bed with him, pressing a clumsy kiss to her cheek. ❝ Thanks for puttin’ up with me. ❞

An annoyed sigh left Colby as he chewed on the his nail. What was the harm in going out? The worst that would happen would be him getting ignored right? He made a face before he sighed. “Fine. I’ll —-I’ll come. Fuck,” he muttered. He shifted his weight before he added. “But not for long okay? I’ll come but only for a few hours.”
Dolph’s face lit up, a grin growing on his lips, wide and genuine and slightly crooked. ❝ You won’t regret it. It’ll be a blast. Here, let me write down my number for you. Text me and I’ll send you my address. ❞ He pulled a pen out of his pocket, holding out a hand for Colby’s hand so he could jot his number on his palm. Natalya stepped out of the classroom, finally, and Dolph finished writing his number a moment later. ❝ Remember. Text me. And let me know who it is, ❞ he added with a laugh.
“Stop keeping your phone in silent, you got me worried!”

❝ C’mon, Becky, I can take care of myself, ❞ scoffed as if she was being irrational, when they both knew that statement was a lie. A slew of evidence in the countless times Dolph had shown up at her door drunk, more than a few times with a black eye or a busted lip thanks to the way he r a n h i s m o u t h .
A frown found its way to Colby’s face and he crossed his arms defensively. His life was far from boring. He enjoyed going home and listening to music or watching wrestling with his friends. His hand reaches up to scratch at the back of his neck before he sighs. “I don’t know….can I get back to you? It’s really not my scene,” he murmured.
Dolph didn’t look convinced, eyebrows arched and a scoff on his lips. “It’ll never be your scene if you don’t take a chance,“ he argued. "If you do come – which you should – there’ll be the good shit. Well, it’ll be there whether you come or not, but.” A shrug. “If you’d, you know, hang out with people, maybe they wouldn’t talk about you as much.”
Colby’s tongue darted across his lips before he nodded slowly. He never was good at reading people, never good at telling if they were making fun of him or genuinely curious. “Yeah. I uh —don’t bother going out anymore. What’s the point? People just see me coming and start whispering and shit,” he answered, his hand running through his hair. “I’d rather just sit at home and watch wrestling. It’s easier.”
"But that's boring. How do you not go out of your mind? No offense," Dolph added in a way that did nothing to negate whatever offense he might have caused with his phrasing or the tone of voice he used ( his tone got him in trouble more often than anything else ). "Well, if you decide you do want to party this weekend, I'm having a party on Saturday night. You can come. I can't promise people won't talk about you, but you could at least give them something to talk about." The suggestion was followed by a small shrug.
Gym class in eighth grade. Had it really been that long since Colby had talked to Dolph? A shrug lifted his shoulders, hands sliding into the pocket of ripped jeans. “Eighth grade was around when I started growing my hair,” he answered slowly. “I think some of your friends started pulling my hair and calling me a girl.” It had been so long that he honestly couldn’t remember if Dolph had even been involved.
Dolph might have been exaggerating a bit -- he tended to do things like that, stretch the truth for dramatic flair ( and maybe sometimes just to see if he could get away with it ). "Well, I never picked on you about it. I'd be the last person to do that. Trust me, I got called a girl a lot when I started cheering. Just idiots blowing hot air," he said with a wave of his hand, dismissive, standing up and adjusting the strap of his backpack. "So is that why I never see you at parties?" Genuine curiousity fueling the inquiry.

he stares at the other for a long moment, eyebrow arching as he stands there. his tongue darts across his lips before he nods at the other, eyes dropping to the guy’s shoes.
“your laces are untied man.”
Dolph was waiting for Natalya so they could walk to their next class together, leaning up against the wall and browsing twitter, not entirely focused on what he was looking at. The sound of someone’s voice got his attention, caused his eyes to flick from his phone to whoever was talking to him. ❝ Excuse me? ❞ Eyebrows raised before peering down at his own shoes. ❝ Huh. Thanks. ❞ Crouching down to tie his shoe, he added, ❝ I think that’s the first time you’ve talked to me since, like, eighth grade gym class. ❞

❝ So, Deano, you finally get tired of the good guy charade? Was starting to wonder if you liked being comedy relief. ❞

A hand on his chest, mock-offense apparent in his features and thick in his words. ❝ Me? An ass? NEVER. ❞ Dolph’s facade cracked and a grin broke out, bright and somehow close to mocking, in sharp juxtaposition to the almost - playful expression he’d worn moments before.
❝ It’s called being honest, Maryse. You should try it sometime. ❞
I just have to be the center of attention 24/7 even when I’m sleeping is that too much to ask
