im gonna be posting a lot more nonfeels because the format is dead and submissions are dead, but i feel responsible for this space as there are extremely few deaf blogs left on tumblr and i don't want to be another disappointment, i hope you understand!!

Is there any particular strategy that DHH people use to understand hearing people in loud environments? I’m hard of hearing I usually try to get a blend of non verbal cues to figure out what people are saying in loud environments.

that joyous APD feel when the TTRPG you're playing (pathfinder 2) has functional rules about having a lip-reading or signing character!

i feel like it helps my friends be more aware of my own lip-reading and it's just nice to have my character be like me ✨️

that APD feel when you tell your colleague you lip-read when he's talking with his cup held before his mouth, and he just looks at you, doesn't repeat anything, keeps his cup there, and stops talking to you

That HOH + APD (Yes I have both) feel when you've explained what HOH means OVER 5 TIMES to your teacher and he still doesn't understand what it means.

I honestly just tell teachers that I'm deaf now. I know that I'm not, but this has happened with more than 10 different teachers, and I don't know why my school's teachers are so stupid. Hard of Hearing, it's in the name! I genuinely don't know why they can't figure out what it means, even with an explanation.

can i challenge you on your thinking about just one thing however, when you say you aren't deaf, if you are hoh you are deaf, whether you are Deaf as in culturaly deaf or not, is up to you, but hearing loss is hearing loss whether major or minor, and hearing loss is deaf

i’m just kind of stuck between worlds right now. better than half-belonging to one, i guess, but every speaking conversation shows how bad i am at hearie stuff, and every signing conversation shows how little i still know.

There's been a rise in "im not deaf but" submissions.

It's a very simple community blog for people who are D/deaf/hoh/APD, it isn't up for debate or a complicated issue.

I respect CODA and PODA (acronyms that folk either love or hate and im not here to debate that either) and make space for them.

Tdf when you can't comprehend a movie because you don't have subtitles on because either nobody else in the room needs them or you were dragged to a theater

that HoH feel when your parents declared years ago they're too old to learn a new language and then one of them up and decides to learn spanish for a trip and they actually do it. but they still won't learn sign.

quietly dying over here. wish hearies understood that sign is more than a nice to have or a "beautiful language." it's base communication and it isn't optional.

Am I still able to call myself HoH even if I can't really get anything figured out about it right now?

HoH is a diagnosis not an identity you choose, either you have confirmed hearing loss or you don't. I'm not here to police the term, it really is just your audiologist who will be available at the same places you get your eyes tested.
