Reminiscing on the absolutely magical two nights I spent in London a few weeks ago, getting to meet two wonderful, wonderful human beings…
Firstly, Dónal Finn. Mel was right, he is magic, and he is pure love, but we all know that by now. It truly does roll off him in waves. I was lucky enough to speak with him on three occasions, but the last time was when I actually got the courage to tell him what I’ve wanted to tell him for a long, long time. (While also giving him the message from Ella, which I still don’t believe actually happened!!) After getting to the end of the queue at the stage door he actually looped back and came up to me to shake my hand and thank me for what I had said to him earlier. 😭 We took another photo, he thanked me for coming all the way down (the wonderful receptionist at the Royal Court had told him earlier how far I’d come to see the play), we had another tiny little chat, then he said he was going down to the bar, told me to have a safe journey home and turned to go back into the theatre… and then turned around to smile at me as he was walking away! 😭 There’s so much more I could say but yeah… he was humble and sincere and warm and kind and everything good about a human being. He was utterly, utterly wonderful.
Meeting Dónal was a dream… but to meet Ella too?? I mean… what are the actual chances?? It was so unexpected, I was actually speechless to start with when she literally came to sit next to me in the theatre, but she was so very kind and lovely and friendly, we ended up having the longest chat about so many things before the play started - and she’s a hugger!! 🥹 We had so many hugs, I just couldn’t believe that she was right there in front of me!! At the end of the play when she had to run (after giving me a freaking message to give to Dónal freaking Finn!) she took me aside to have another tiny little chat and a hug. I’ll never, ever forget her lovely words. She is just the most radiant human being. 😭
All in all, it was an experience of a lifetime, and one I won’t ever forget. 🥹
