1986s Metroid was a Perfect utilization of limited tools, Zero Mission re-imagined Samus' Identity.

It invented a genre and fought a war against it's own hardware at the same time. It is a punishing labyrinth that required as much patience as it did skill... then came Metroid: Zero Mission in 2004. It id not just add a coat of fresh paint, it re-engineered the soul of Samas Aran.

I spent 20 minutes dissecting the "Kinetic Upgrade" and why stripping Samus of her armor in the third act was the best narrative risk Nintendo ever took.

How I Became A Pro Dungeon Master (On Accident)

Just over a year ago, I lost my data entry job. Today, I got pait to run Dungeons & Dragons for strangers. I've been invited to conventions, work events, and have even performed on stage... this is how it happened. I am not a professional voice actor or a lifelong D&D veteran with the confidence that comes with it. I am just someone whose life became a series of moments... Really loved today's double feature.

Sisu and it's sequel Road to Revenge.

Sisu (2022)

With the sequel arriving today, this is the perfect thing to have on for a refresher while tidying up and writing. Merely a mostly silent protagonist, some visceral violence choreography that manages to be cathartic at the same time, and a really melodic soundtrack that does it does me. One can only hope to have the determination of Sisu tracking down the Nazi bastards that done him dirty. Sisu: Road to Revenge (2025)

They may not be Nazi's, but it might be just about as cathartic to watch Sisu on his road to revenge...

When you think, "they aren't really going to do that are they?", yes, yes they will. At times doubling down on the slapstick violence this is like Sam Rami got to make a war movie immediately after Evil Dead 2. With a crazy talented cast or character actors to make up for bullshit of some of the most epic moments I cannot quite bring myself to really get into this more than first. But it comes reallt close.

Don't forget the Seven Samurai are NOT Samurai Being a Ronin was less the free spirited adventurer we think of in the west, and more like... being unemployed for months at a time. There are few who broke out of that stigma.

Seven Samurai is one of the most influential films in the history of cinema. A personal favorite, and more than that, it’s about the price of protection, and who survives thanks to that price. Through my eyes, Seven Samurai is not a story about noble heroes or glorious sacrifice. This is a story about who is left standing when the dust settles at the end of the day.

This isn’t a story where being a hero is full of glory, it is expensive. That the system is always going to force someone else to pay the bill at the end of the night. And it wants the audience to ask whether that is okay.
