Quick warm up, figured some James lore was long overdue (below cut)

if you haven’t picked it up from James’s clothes under his jacket, that is, in fact, the human zoo uniform. James’s Mom met his Dad in the zoo a long, long time after the war, having decided to take a tour of it. His Dad was the latest addition and hadn’t been there long. He was the only one not brainwashed and fully dependent on the zookeepers because everyone else had been in there for generations, but he actually experienced Earth and wanted out. Emerald found him interesting, and after getting his story, took frequent backdoor visits to hang out with him. When she got pregnant, she immediately started planning, and finally snuck his dad out of the zoo right around when she was due, B-lining it for Earth in her ship because neither wanted their kid to be born in that gilded cage. She gave birth just as they entered orbit, and where James’s father was holding the love of his life before, he held a tiny baby boy with her gem and her eyes.

Due to how heavy his trauma was from the abduction, the Zoo, and losing the gem he loved, James’s Father decided to give him up for adoption, believing the boy couldn’t thrive under his wing, plus the Zoo stay stunted his father’s health and lifespan by a good chunk. James was wrapped up in the Human Zoo uniform, which became his favorite thing to sleep in and carry around like a baby blanket as an infant/tot, and left with him were the earrings (disabled) and a letter explaining everything, one he got to open when he was 18. The one request was that he kept a face mask on in public in case anybody comes looking, for his own safety from thieves, other gems, or even, god forbid, the government. James, now in his late 20s/early 30s, eventually started working with rebel gems in the area he moved to to start fresh, since he had that handy destabilizer staff from his mom, which was when he met the rest. The local city gives him an income to sustain himself and live comfortably in exchange for protecting from the corrupted and whatever else the gems left behind. He still wears the mask, which never bothered him. If anything, he found it cool to look mysterious.

Y’all have probably been waiting for this for a while. Mind if a girl becomes a horrifying parasitic mass? (Lore below cut, buckle up it’s a LOT)

Kindness takes the place of the cluster (mostly), just with a far more active and horrific role. Like the og cluster, she was made from shattered gem shards conglomerated into something meant to take form and literally rip apart planets from the inside, but this one decided not to do that. The hivemind of broken shards formed into one personality, and instead of reforming outward, it went straight up and out of the ground, learning how to extract life energy from the planet and thus further extending her reach by mixing stolen biological energy with gem light and shoving that matter between her shards to grow outward, taking over the weak-minded corrupted freaks that wandered aimlessly. Just destroying the planet wasn’t enough. She needed to reach across whole galaxies, take over in a way that the Diamonds could never, ever ignore. She doesn’t need a form, she needs the empire GONE. After all, most of her shards were shattered by one particular Diamond before grief crippled his execution streak. (Cough COUGH.)

The corrupted she gets a hold of become basically roided. Twice as violent and destructive, with a lot more aim and purpose behind their actions than the usual mindless thrashing. When shattered, Kindness will just take the shards back and keep them to use as seeds to spread farther. Sometimes she shatters them on purpose for that reason. Non-corrupted gems can also be pulled into her hivemind if they’re not careful. The sword in her chest came from a rebel army leigon that tried and failed to slaughter her. She kept the sword simply for her own amusement, and as a lure for any adventurous humans or gems looking to pull the sword from the stone. She hasn’t been known to control humans, just uses their biomatter and takes note of their body systems to further evolve her strategies.

She’s HEAVILY inspired off of Cyn from Murder Drones. Nobody knows why she forms a gem body a lot as a lure, she doesn’t have to, but the common guesses have something to do with a false sense of security, uncanny valley, and playing with her food.

FINALLY got around to getting the rest of Shady Oaks’ GemCYT designs out of the way. I left out Captain Sparklez and BigB on purpose because they both already have designs (BigB’s design, Sparklez design) and Sparklez is LITERALLY white Diamond. I should also mention Yammy and Preston are smaller gems in this au because ruby (obviously) and I needed some body variation here.

Ecko, Preston, Jerome, and Cody were actually in the resistance before Dan ever came to earth. They were recruited mostly by Squid. Ecko may look formerly corrupted, but he’s not. He just looks like that and keeps the spots and horns on his form to scare off any potential corrupted and act as camouflage. Yammy came as a scout sent by Homeworld, like Peridot, only instead, due to her pink colors and shapeshifting prowess, she shapeshifted into Lizzy/Rose Quartz to deceive all the rebels because she was curious about gems still inhabiting Earth. Her gem was hidden by all the hair. She doesn’t exactly care for Homeworld, she was just sent to check on the Cluster, which exists, but… not in the way you think. After realizing the Earth is worth protecting, she joins the rebellion as a quick fighter and bonds with Tiff almost immediately.

SB is relatively in the place of Jasper. He was also sent because of the Cluster and the fact that Homeworld was catching on to the fact that maybe the Earth has gems here and should just be rid for good. Ecko slowly starts to change his perspective on things, and suddenly, SB doesn’t really know how to feel about all this anymore. He never really goes back to Homeworld, instead staying close by to the rebellion, but not really joining. He’s kind of an anti-hero, so to say? Idk I’m still figuring it all out, but Scalyfeathers is a thing in this au. Why not.

Yknow, I’ve always wanted to do an animatic to Scylla, mainly with BLSMP. But since I’m finally past Day 8 now I figured I’d get it done. Spoilers, technically. Happy 3rd anniversary to BLSMP, I guess? (This is a little late for that)

Fun fact! Dan is far heavier than most gems due to his Diamond gem bearing most of the weight. How does that big ass thing fit in his Larimar form? Like this.

Been meaning to get this comparison out because unlike Pink/Lizzie, he doesn’t have a normal sized diamond to hide. He’s ridiculously heavy in both forms, and despite being a lot larger when fused with James as Chrysocolla, thus giving the Diamond more space, they have to be careful about extremely hard hits to the chest because said Diamond is VERY capable of breaking ribs. I didn’t give his Blue Diamond form an exact height because I think he’d slightly shift his size in that form to fit in particularly low doorways or subconsciously make himself smaller around White Diamond/Sparklez because a gem’s form is heavily influenced by their self perception, especially around other gems.

Can his gem on his own be lifted by one person? Yes. It’s just, like… 30-ish pounds or around 13 kilograms at LEAST, so it definitely takes work. The smooth surface and VERY sharp edges also makes gripping it hard, so it feels heavier than it is and is a dangerous thing to drop. Overall, Dan avoids getting poofed at all costs not just for exposure reasons, but also for convenience.
