im phenomenally late to the party but i've always been of the opinion that it sends you just to a branch timeline of the same original timeline from the start of your cycle. like you're still in the 'same timeline', technically, it's just that there are two branches, and in one you died, so it sends you back to the start and you try out again.

i think a diagram would help me out here one second let me open ms paint
