Brock is one of the few and perfect examples of an actual gentlemen like yeah he’d hit on literally every girl he’d meet but would also only shower them with affection and compliments. He never falls into the tired “token pervert/borderline sexual assaulter” anime trope and despite being hella flirty, treats the women he’s interested with nothing but respect and compassion.

idk if it’s still like this in the anime, but ya’ll ever think about how in the 90s Pikachu actually had specific “words” for some of the characters and could be heard using them specifically FOR those characters.

“Pi-ka-pi” was always for Ash (which makes more sense consider his Japanese name is Satoshi)

and “Pi-pi-pi” was Togepi

I never hear anyone talk about this but I think about it all the time

He still uses his terms/words all the time, it never stopped. Iirc, the way the anime is written, Ikue is given fully written out dialogue in Japanese, and she then pikafies it on her own when voicing him.

Once upon a time there was a dictionary on Bulbapedia but it’s since disappeared it seems? He has words for most major characters but also just regular Japanese words like sayonara (pi-kaa-pi-kaa) and daijoubu (‘pii-kaa-chuu?’) he’s got a pretty extensive vocabulary!

He’s also not the only one! Lots of Pokemon have their own consistent words for things, Pikachu is just more well known because he doesn’t get dubbed and thus doesn’t lose his meanings. The one that immediately comes to mind is Wobbuffet, who (in the original Japanese) has names for all of the rest of Team Rocket! He’s actually scarily good at getting his ‘sonansu’s to sound like words/names, like he calls Kojiro ‘sososo’ and Musashi ‘susoso’ but has this way of saying it I cannot even explain in text where it sounds EXACTLY like their names? I mean if expect no less considering his best friend is a talking Pokemon lmao.

Anyways pokespeak is fucking cool and I wish the dub didn’t do away with so much of it. For reference, the pikaspeak I at least know is:

Pikapi - Satoshi (Ash)

Pikachupi - kasumi (misty)

Pipipi - Togepi

Pipi-kachu - roketto-dan (team rocket)

Pi-pikachu - getto daze! (We got it!) (This is used for gym badges, pokémon captures, etc)

And the aforementioned. I know he also has terms for the Kanto starters and some other primary characters but I super forgot them all xD
