It is not because of your sun-kissed look, your overly cheerful, borderline annoying demeanor, or the occasional heat in your words.

2011, I went backpacking for the first time.
My map was torn in two. I saw a venomous snake on the road. I got lost in a mist. I almost didn't make it home, but once I finally did, I couldn't stop retelling the story until everyone I knew was sick of it.

2012, I started gaining more courage. I traveled a little farther from the equator. I didn't get better in navigation, but I found things I never knew existed. I found that some people somewhere sold baguettes in a cart. Some people never recognized traffic lights. Some others were on their way to deal with old scars.
I remember you the way I remember summer. I remember falling in love.
2013, I went to a faraway island, a bird-shaped one, an island of beauty and vivacity. I got to know people I never met before. I was embraced by the warmest welcome. I felt loved and it surprised me how right it felt to return the love.
Summer arrives and summer departs. Every time it's gone, I bid it farewell. Sometimes I miss it when it rains, but the thought of greeting each other again makes me bloom.
To say 'I miss you', however, is an understatement.
You are on every way I've walked, in every word I've written. My mind is always bustling, but somehow I always spare a tiny space for you inside it.
I'm sorry I haven't found the way to stop reminiscing you.
Maybe one day, when I see the sun, and the rain, and everything that comes in between,
I will remember that once life breathed love to our paths.
Once things I held onto fell apart,
but through it all I have learnt to be brave and to survive,
to embrace the unusual,
to deal with old scars,
to accept love and to love back.
Summer will come back and love may happen.
When it's time, we will greet each other like we always did
and I promise, I won't be afraid to start all over again.
