Mrs. Claus (also known as Mrs. Santa Claus) is the legendary wife of Santa Claus, the Christmas gift-bringer in Western Christmas tradition. She is known for making cookies with the elves, caring for the reindeer, and preparing toys with her husband. She is first mentioned in 1849 in the short story ‘A Christmas Legend,’ by James Rees. In the story, an old man and woman, both carrying a bundle on the back, are given shelter in a home on Christmas Eve as weary travellers. The next morning, the children of the house find an abundance of gifts for them, and the couple is revealed to be not ‘old Santa Claus and his wife,’ but the hosts’ long-lost elder daughter and her husband in disguise. I come from a meat-eating family, where we get meat everyday, sometimes even in the morning, and only get salads a couple of times a week. Have you got any tips on how to be vegan in such an environment?

I can confidently say that a lot of vegans grew up that way and/or are living similarly. The short(ish) blunt answer is - If you want to be vegan, do it, it’ll all work out fine if your hearts in it. You are in charge of what you eat and if it’s how you want to live, simply - you will. Longer answer is you can try and help educate your family about the health/environmental impacts (most people have super cognitive dissonance with “food animals” so sometimes explaining the horrors of animal cruelty just doesn’t work with some older people sadly..) Maybe you could show them documentaries (Forks over knives is a good one focused on the health benefits) and cook vegan meals together? Find recipes of their favorite dishes and make em vegan. A lot of the time when someone goes vegan a few people closest to them will follow suit, or they’ll at least super question things and educate themselves. If you’re having trouble going/staying vegan take the advice I mentioned earlier..watch things, learn..try recipes and new foods. Check out this post. Once you get the hang of it, and are passionate in why you want to live this way, you’ll only regret not going sooner.
