So the fact that Nanami’s perfectly coiffed hair falls and his suit gets destroyed and his glasses are lost right at the end so you can see for the first time just how painfully young he is isn’t a coincidence, right.

Like that at those final moments, we shift from seeing him drawn as this imposing Adult-of-Adults™ to like. Someone who is very clearly still young, still in their late twenties, and it’s just.

God the gut-punch of the realization that this man who is so obsessively intent on protecting children from the horrors of the world and preserving that innocence as long as possible is so young himself...pain. Unimaginable pain.

And it feels like it’s the first time we see any emotion from him that isn’t restrained in some way. He is desperate. He is tired. And he is so very young.
